I arrived at the property on 30/3/24 at around 3am as I decided not to return to London with the persons I arrived with. I was stranded. Can’t remember the person in receptions name but he was very patient and helpful with me as I tried to payment in which I finally did. Thank you once again for being great at your job Tina

Although we were told that there would be works going on and that there would be Afghan refugees, these issues were not interfering with our stay. Staff vey pleasant and helpful

The rooms are being modernised on the whole good finish. The windows should be better as do not silence trains running most of the early hours. Also the pillow choice , hard hard or harder . Would have been better to close and modernise the whole hotel instead of doing a wing at a time .

Staff lack customer focus
I found the staff to be very elusive! I had to look for them for service. Once found they were very friendly however I found this frustrating.

Not so clean.
Pubic hair in the bath, towels were stained and cables were sticking out of the wall. You can tell this hotel used to be very nice but its days are gone.

Customer service second to none...
Customer service was excellent, bar staff were excelle t.....their willingness to please was way above standard.....unfortunately the restaurant let them down on this stay as they messed up our meal feom staryer to main course, but overall was still a lovely stay...would definitely come again

In need of modernisation
1st room (249) was too noisy due motorway traffic. We were able to swap to a quieter room. Both rooms were very warm with no air conditioning. Bathroom futures were in need of replacement but i noted some wirks were underway elsewhere in hotel. Breakfast was good. Location was perfect and hotel easy to find and with good parking. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Won’t come back.
Long wait at check in. Airco downstairs, but room hot and no airco. Check out time 11.00. But at 10.30 they said we had 10 minutes. Airco unit of downstairs next to room window…. Unbelievable. A lot of noise. Awfull service of front desk. Mostly not occupied and you have to call an outside number with your cell. Best hotel of Colchester. What a Joke.

Bit of a Crossroads Motel vibe, in a good way.
Easy to find, excellently located for our trip, really friendly and helpful staff. The room was great if quite tired-looking. Shower worked fine, bed was comfy, breakfast was OK but there was plenty of choice and the pool was a welcome bonus. The lobby looks a bit naff, but the 60s/70s building and features are quite cool really, if you like that sort of thing, which I do.

Good experience. We stayed for a wedding . Nice room but over priced for a basic room. Was woken up by the housekeeper at 9am as she wanted to clean the room.

Very hot and noisy
The staff are polite and friendly but don’t actual provide a service. It was a very hot day and when we got to the room the heating was on and the towel rial. Our key did not work which we understand does happen sometimes and we did work out how to turn the heating down. We were going out for the day so on the way out we spoke to reception made them aware of the issue with the towel rail and asked for a fan. We was told someone would sort out the towel rail while we was out and there was a fan in the cupboard. When we arrived back very late and got to the room the towel rail was still on and there was no fan this meant we had to have the window open and you get a constant traffic noise in the room. We stayed Friday night so 7.30 Saturday morning the builders working on an extension to the hotel started work with drills and grinders. This was an pleasant stay for us.

Room was acceptable. Too warm but AC unit was available in room. Opened window but huge traffic noise coming off the A12. Nothing can be done about that as hotel situation. All in all in the stay was good. Breakfast excellent and we had dinner one night which was very good.

Dog Friendly Staff
My Stay here was very pleasant, Gym, pool, sauna and steam room were all available to use over the bank holiday weekend which was a great surprise to me. Staff at the hotel were very welcoming to us and very pleasant. I stayed here with my Dog and the staff were very pleasant to him, however i was told it is quite a walk to any nearby fields, and i was aloud to walk the dog on the lead around the perimeter of the hotel onto the grass area at the back, however i also found a little lane to walk the dogs, if you carefully cross the main road in front of the hotel, and adjacent to the church you will find a walk way there, this goes along the way to the fields and can have a nice walk way around, there isnt any other lane i could find to take me back on to the main road so you have to walk back to the way you came. Also if your looking to eat local or do a takeaway, there is The Bungalow Diner which is short walk away.

Dated, impolite staff, cold pool!
We stayed in this hotel 3 years ago, before Covid and it was ok. Connecting room and zoo/dinner deal. Great value for money. But this time was different. The rooms were very dated, no doors on the wardrobe, windows wouldn’t close which wasn’t great for security, carpets were really dirty, no stool for the dressing table and in our children's room, the TV didn’t work at all! The swimming pool was really cold and a swimming lesson was being taught for the hour we went in for so half the pool was closed off. It got too crowded. The dinner was ok, but service was slow. We booked for 6:45 and left at 9:15! The waitress was rude when we told her the glasses on the table were dirty, she got replacements, which were also dirty…lipstick on them! And basically told us off for taking a juice glass for breakfast off a nearby table. The waitress then swapped with another waiting staff member as hopefully she was embarrassed for being rude to us??? The breakfast was better, waiting staff much nicer. The beds were uncomfortable and the room was extremely stuffy. There was a big fan in one room but we had bought little fans ourselves. Overall, the hotel needs a lot of work. It has potential, but needs money spending on it. It also needs to train staff to be more polite with customers. A smile goes a long way!
