Other hotels are available to book in the area
The hotel was clean and the bath/shower was fine. However, the food and staff were shocking, both for dinner and breakfast. Staff don't carry notepads so 8 ordered one main in 4 parts and as expected it came out wrong from the kitchen meaning it had to be sent back, which led to a cold dinner 10mins later when the heat lamp failed to keep the chips warm. Despite there being barely 3 tables at either meal no one seemed interested in helping. At breakfast I had to dig through the plates to find one not crusted with egg. The pastries, bread, and juices weren't stocked despite the quiet morning. The room was cold and on turning on the radiator, which was set to off in winter, there was no heat and the noise was horrendous, I recommend getting servicing in to bleed these and make sure they are working.

Thank you for your recent review following your stay with us here at the hotel. I do hope that you took the time to speak with a member of the management team whilst you were at the hotel as the points you raise could easily be resolved. It is very rare for us to receive negative comments on the team and the service we provide. We do complete regular audits of the breakfast area to identify any areas that may need attention and the breakfast plates have never come up as an issue. I hope this was pointed out to the breakfast supervisor on duty so any plates could be removed. I will be sure to try and locate the room you stayed in to resolve the problem you mention about the radiator.

not very good
i stay away in hotels twice a week with work so rarely bother to leave reviews unless very good or very bad. this was the latter. staff were good, no issues there. room tired and in need of decoration, as was the hotel. shower was pathetic, could only get warm water not hot and power was rubbish. the worst thing was the food. only bar food available. only 5 starters to chose from, they only had 3. only 6 or 7 mains, two were off the menu. so it was basically a burger or a pizza. i chose burger, i wish i hadn't. very poor. and the starter i chose was crispy squid rings, (they had run out of chicken hot wings) , these were squidgy squid rings, undercooked. the group of 7 guys sat next to me were not eating, until dominos delivered, i see why now, and the 2 guys behind the bar were waiting on their chinese take away to be delivered rather than eat the hotel food, which i guess they must get at a discount. But that was understandable also, i wish i had chosen take away food. all in all a very poor stay. will not be returning

I do note that you stated you will not be returning to the hotel for a future stay however I hope that you will reconsider this and you will realise this is not a common theme.

The sink was cracked in the bathroom. Otherwise, the room was great. Staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Great location
Stayed over as it was only 10 minutes away from my Christmas party venue. Really easy to get to, close to transport links and Middlebrook retail park (lots of breakfast/ dining options). Room was a little dated and there was a slight hole in one of the chairs but more than comfortable for what I needed. Would stay here again

Fire alarm went off at 4am. Overall place could do with a refurb some very tired looking bits. Windows very drafty and don’t close properly. Also seem to have doors and windows open constantly leading to cold corridors. Swimming pool lockers you need to take a padlock for them to be any use not much use to hotel guests who probably don’t have one. Reception couldn’t advise on this and didn’t know so found out when I got down there. Room was ok just again very dated finish in the bathroom had bath cover hanging off and cracked sink. Wi-Fi was very hit and miss and didn’t really work properly mostly just used 5G. Food over priced in bar for the portion size.

Mixed review
Lovely looking building from the outside, but inside is dated and in need of refurbishment particularly in the bedrooms and corridors. Breakfast was great as were all of the staff - very courteous and helpful.

The room was comfortable but you could tell the age of the building with peeling paint and old decor. The corners had cobwebs and spiders and the windows were filthy so couldn’t see very clearly outside. Pool was lovely although wasn’t aware we would have to share the pool with swimming lessons.

I wouldn’t again ….
Pool/sauna/steam room all closed and I booked due to these ‘features’. Restaurant was the bar. Expensive, limited and bar staff unhelpful. Room was very dated. Other guests were noisy well after midnight with no let up. Shoite!

Shabby & dated
Mercure used to have a decent reputation but after this stay that reputation (personally) is in tatters !! Dated, shabby room that hadn’t been properly cleaned or maintained for a good while. Without power for hours one evening - I thought hotels would have back up generators ?

Not great unfortunately
Sadly, the bad outweighed the good here. "Spa" hotel - holds kids swim lessons all day in the pool. Heavily stained duvet and pillows (sheets looked clean). Smelt of damp throughout building. Staff very helpful, just had to find them first. Ample parking. No plugs near the bed. Safes not working, told none of them did. Ceiling of pool area rusting and falling apart, they have a net up to catch the pieces. Breakfast selection not too bad. Overall, not quite the relaxing break anticipated.

Nice comfortable stay
Nice easy check in and room although the usual miles away from the reception area was nice and quiet and accessible. Comfy beds , nice hot water for a bath and good night’s sleep too . The breakfast was excellent. Lots of hot food , good juices and quality coffee too . Overall a good stay , however the hotel is looking quite tired in a lot of the public areas

We arrived at the property to be told the lift wasn’t working and our room was on the 3rd floor . 6 flights of stairs later we arrived in room 886 small room in the eves of the building . Needed a lick of paint it looked tired and the bathroom was old with mould around the bath . . Also £34 for a bottle of cheap red wine was a joke ! On the upside staff were friendly, breakfast was very good pretty much everything you want . Will I be staying here again probably not

Morning Jason Thank you for your recent feedback, I have replied to your review on another site also. Unfortunately the lift was out of service due to a power cut in the area and work needed on the circuit board, this certainly was an inconvenience and we tried to locate as many people on the lower floors as possible, I am sorry we were unable to do with with your room whilst you stayed at the hotel. The wines are priced and we do have cheaper options available I am sorry if you were not advised of this. Some lovely comments in relation to the staff which is lovely to see. I will be sure to share your comments with the team.

Its ok, not great but ok.
The staff was very friendly and did a great job, disappointed on the general condition of the place, looks old and a bit tatty. Website says the the spa has massage facility (they dont and havent had since covid). It also says that the pool is adults only after 7.30pm, not whilst i was there. Anoying that the lockers are "bring your own padlock" as when im travelling i dont tend to carry one. Kitchen is apparently open until 9pm unless you want to order at 8.40pm then its closed!

The stay was good, enjoyed the pool although it was a bit small due this half the pool being blocked off. Returning on Saturday night to a complete black out wasn't ideal either.

Brauna (Reception), Katie (Bar) and Shift Manager were very helpful. The wifi wouldn't work in my room, despite using Conference and the additional Mercure Windsor booster put on specially - annoying I had to work in the public areas all night. I couldn't collect Accor points when booking via Hotels.com despite being told that I would when I advised to join a previous time I stopped a previous time.

Great place to stay, just don't expect pristine.
Wonderfully helpful staff. Good size room with everything I needed, great shower with plenty of water pressure and hot water and ability to control own heating. Great breakfast. Hotel is starting to look a little worn around the ages, more visible on carpets, walls etc in common areas but no issues with room.
