The bathroom was tiny, the toilet flush was very noisy, the heating didn't work, and the bed was very uncomfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful

This Inn has a lot of history and is quite old. Despite attempts to update the rooms, they still feel dated and uninviting. Bed was comfortable though.

Lovely inn, room spotlessly clean and comfortable, staff warm and welcoming and food was great, highly recommend Pork Porchetta, was amazing !

The WiFi did not work, the room needs to come with a warning about the uneven floor and not suitable for people not steady on there feet, needs a new mattress on the bed very lumpy not good night's sleep

Generally positive except for one member of staff who has just no idea of hospitality . unhelpful to the point of rudeness. Also difficult to use shower as I have mobility issues and climbing into and out of bathtub was very problematic.

The Chequers Inn
On arrival we were booked in, then told the place was closing at 6 that day and the following day due to staffing issues. We were the only ones there and were looking forward to a nice relaxing evening just sitting in the pub and having dinner as we'd had a long day. As it was we had to go out for something to eat and drink and, buy our own drinks for the evenings. They should have pre warned us of this as we could have looked for somewhere else to stay as this was a break for our wedding anniversary. No atmosphere, no people around. On the Wednesday service resumed as normal but that was half of our break away gone. Breakfasts were lovely as were the dinners we had on our last couple of days. The gardens were unkempt with dead plants and trees and broken pots. Staff were friendly and apologetic but we had paid for a service that for 2 days we didn't receive. We were very disappointed.

Despite being on a corner, the streets were quiet at night. All the staff I dealt with were smiling and helpful. Very easy to walk to castle and shops. Evening meal good and hot. If any fault to be mentioned it was that it was hard to know which way to turn on the hot water and which shower head. A note in the Information booklet would be helpful.

think twice
we booked the hotel rooms as we were attending a wedding locally. The inn is full of character and well placed to explore the town centre which is amazing. The inn only has 4/5 rooms so we occupied the whole hotel. check in was ok we had to pay before we went upstairs to our rooms. On reflection we may of moved on elsewhere I think I had the best room of the lot but the shower was so hot I was unable to get any cold water to cool it down on the day we left so had to have a strip wash it was 30 degrees outside. The cleanliness of the room was poor and it looked tired. The tea and coffee provision was good with fresh ground coffee available would I stay again sadly not my friends had issues with the cleanliness of their rooms with used make up wipes, earings and fake eylashes laid around the room it was generally very scruffy and unclean. We ate in the inn and the food was poor wished we had gone into the town to eat out

Staff were friendly even though they had no idea I was staying took payment but was unable to supply a vat receipt breakfast did not start until 9.00am this is not mentioned on hotels.com I’ve messaged for vat receipt Room 4 lots of dust on skirting boards behind bed and around wardrobe how it’s rated at 9 behind believe

A fabulous stay
We had a lovely stay at the Chequers . Our room was large clean and comfortable. The stafff were lovely so friendly and attentive. The food was excellent really fresh and beautifully presented .

Old, quirky and comfortable.
Greeted well and given an upgrade to a lovely, comfortable room. Quirky accessories which we loved. Everything we needed was provided. Personally though i would have preferred black out blinds/ curtains as the street light shone in the room all night. Food in the pub was overall lovely.

Nice stay in Battle.
Nice place to stay in Battle. The staff couldn’t do enough to help. The breakfast was one of the best and would definitely recommend it. Room didn’t appear to have been cleaned that well and the shower didn’t work that well. Bed was very comfy and nice bar and restaurant.

Really friendly and helpful staff, bottle of water and tea and filter coffee on arrival, comfortable bed, great location, tasty food and a very short walk to the Abbey. Watch your head on the low ceilings! I'd definitely go again

This was a short visit for a wedding nearby so we didn’t spend much time in the room. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of tea and coffee. Would recommend

Hi Mark, I'm really sorry that you did not have a lovely time staying with us. I understand that you got miss charged twice as our staff did not realise that you had already paid Expedia. This is an issue that we need to address as it is not very clear on our system when guest pay expedia internally. I hope that you have recieved your refund which I made sure of on monday on my return to the business. Once again I'm sorry that this tainted your stay.

a pleasing surprise
looks a bit tatty outside, but good retro clean feel in, and bedrooms and bathrooms ultramodern and comfortable didn't eat in except for breakfast - which was excellent. the staff were all attentive and lovely!
