We were there to visit a family member at Foothills Hospital. It was the perfect location because it was a 10 minute drive to the hospital but walking distance to morning coffee and dinner. Exactly what we needed.

The place has a beautiful and luxurious interior as pictured, the woodwork and detail are like none I've ever seen before. It is a unique stay that is good for occasions! I will come back whenever I'm in Calgary again. The mattress was great. The place is very clean and comfortable and the hosts were welcoming and kind.

Beautiful private house but lacking the security, comfort and amenities of a 4 star guest house. We do not recommend. Security: No security locks on room doors and a 'honour system' for locking the main entrance door. We put a chair against our door for security. The "Check-out" process meant leaving our keys on the kitchen counter. Comfort: Bed mattress and pillows (foam) were lumpy; we didn't get a good night sleep. Top sheet was percale 180 thread count (Thomaston t-180), covered by thin nylon blanket (Vellux). Polyester comforter. Amenities: Contrary to their Expedia profile, there is no room service or dining options. The host referred us to Uber Eats. Parking is street parking. What could be improved: - Security locks for guest room and main door security system. - New or better quality mattress, pillows and bedding. - Remove reference to room service from the Expedia website (intentional misrepresentation?, the host said it meant they "serviced the room" ) . - The host has a strict policy requiring guests to remove their shoes at the front door. They should provide house slippers as is customary in this situation. The host provided me slippers when I asked, did not offer slippers to my spouse. - Remove the first picture from their Expedia profile that shows what looks like a hotel tower. It's the first picture that pops up when using the Expedia mobile app.

The interior design was absolutely gorgeous. John and Kim were very polite and welcoming. They ensured we had everything we needed and provided a complimentary fruit tray after we were settled in. I would highly recommend this high end establishment over a hotel any day

I feel bad about posting this review because the hosts are very nice people and very accommodating. We did not know when we booked that the room was in the basement. The shower rod fell down, the sink plug did not work, the overhead light came on suddenly at 4 am one night, the bed sagged in the middle, the shower hand-held unit came right out of the wall, there were black marks on the face cloths, yellow marks on the sheets, live spider on the window sill. They have some very nice rooms upstairs so it's a mystery why they left the basement room at $189 per night in such disrepair.

Dear Anne,We are very sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience at our place. We immediately had the entire room completely deep cleaned, the new shower rod is adjustable and secure. The shower hand-held unit is new and just need to put it only the hook properly. All facecloths are new as well as the sheets are new. Window are well cleaned and shiny. We appreciate you review. We would like to thank you for your compliment that you enjoyed our fresh coffee, tea, fresh fruits, yogurt snack, daily fresh baked cookies and the friendly nice meeting with other guests here. As you booked the enonomy room, it did show the room was underground level in the room information and other rooms are on upper level. However, the room is still very decent with the new bed, smart TV and spacious. The bathroom is extremely new, cleaned and modern. We hope to host you again soon.

This place is fine but not as advertised. It is a bed and breakfast not an in or hotel room. No TVs in the room as add states. Nice enough people clean and safe but def not what is advertised

The craftsmanship of the home’s interior was incredible - beautiful custom built-ins, consistent throughout the home, the floor was custom detailed, done by the owner. It almost felt like an older manor style home with the wainscoting and elegant finishes. The owners were very nice, accommodating people, and fairly knowledgeable when I asked about parking in certain areas. Breakfast options were plentiful and tasty! Room was clean, though there was an old stain on the one pillow. Mattress was very nice, pillows were just okay. The bathroom shower was AWESOME, it had an amazing rainfall shower. However, I accidentally locked the basement room where I was staying. There was an “exterior interior” door that led to a closed hallway leading to my bedroom and bathroom. No one told me I couldn’t lock this hallway door from the outside, as the lock wasn’t the same as my lockable bedroom door. (Owner had to unlock it!) This strange set-up was caused by the establishment of a basement suite, likely for the owners family. The “wall” closing off my hallway wasn’t a “proper” dry walled wall that goes from floor to ceiling. It was more like the back of a cupboard, and light could escape along the crack by the ceiling. When I turned the hallway light on, a light clearly came on on the other side of the wall in the basement suite. Vice versa, if the tenants turned on their light using the two-way switch, my hallway light would also come on. Just weird. Still, would stay again!

Disappointed
Nice building that seems to no longer be well maintained. Flat pillows, creaky bed and not as clean as it should be. We chose this hoping for something unique and a little nicer than a chain hotel. It was considerably more expensive than a chain hotel, but worse than a chain hotel in the things that netter most.

THE OWNER/S ARE A RIPPOFF DOES NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY PAID THROUGH EXPEDIA , WHEN EXPEDIA CALLS TO CONFIRM THE CANCELLATION THEY DO NOT ANSWER THEIR CALL. YOUR ARE BETTER OFF GOING TO ANY HOTEL IN TOWN RATHER THAN THIS ONE. WHEN I GAVE MY PHONE TO THE PERSON ON THE PROPERTY TO TALK TO EXPEDIA HE LIES STATING THAT HE IS NOT THE OWNER WHEN HE WAS. TOTAL RIP OFF. THEY CHARGED ME MORE THAN $600 FOR 2 NIGHT BOOKING WHICH I CANCELLED DUE TO WRONG REPRESENTATION AND STINKING PLACE, NOT A SAFE PLACE AT ALL. I WOULD NOT EVEN CONSIDER STAYING THERE FOR FREE. NOW THEY ARE NOT REFUNDING MY MONEY EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT CHECK IN OR USED THEIR FACILITY. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE, ALL WRONG REPRESENTATION.

The property is a truly unique, and luxury premises in a prime location. The property is entirely dedicated to business, but on a traditionally residential lot, like the renown ‘Hotel Arts Kensington’ four blocks away. Just a few changes would have greatly increased my satisfaction. Hairs and stains on the sheets put me right off. Fireplace not functional. Too few towels. Had to run and empty tub a couple of times to rid the water of floaties. Steam control in shower not working. Bubble control on tub only seemed to be in Spanish. Has potential - just needs more attention to details.

We don’t offer private steamed shower for any rooms here. About the special jetted tub, it was in multi language instruction and including English. About the cleanliness, we were sorry. If you would have let us know during your stay, we would absolutely have the room service enhancing immediately. Guest beware. We arrived at the property and knocked on the door and hit the buzzer and got no response. We then tried calling the property 3 times while we waited for an hour outside and also got none response. During that time we also called Expedia who said they called twice and couldn’t get a response. After an hour we decided to just leave. Expedia was able to get hold of them the two hours later and they claimed they were there despite Expedia even saying no one was answering. This property is a house so there’s no entrance like a normal hotel. We finally heard from the hotel at 6:33pm saying they’d give us a partial refund if we cancel by 730. I wasn’t able to find a way to cancel so messages the property and got not response. I called Expedia and they said that the property set there check out to end at 630 so that’s when cancellations ends. They sent us a email at 633 offering a refund if we cancel knowing that it wasn’t possible for us to cancel. This whole thing felt like a scam. We never got any money back.

There were multiple attempts by us including contacting customers services in emails, phone calls to provide you the opportunity to cancel the reservation with partial refunds. As you did not cancel the reservation then the room was still yours and we could not resell it. If you cancel the reservation, you could give us the chance to resell the room and we could refund you in partial or full. We have been serving many guests and we would like to focus on providing cleanliness and comfortable stays for our guests. Our standard check-in time is from 4 pm and we are always available for early check-in provided if the room is available and the guest let us know ahead. As you arrived early, approximately between 12 – 1 pm, we did not know and did not confirm your early check in, we were inside but we did not see your arrival at all. If you could have called the office number, we could have helped you more. However, Expedia called us around 2 pm and we told them we were here, and your room was ready for check in. We are sorry for your bad experiences; but we hope you understand we earned many 5-star reviews from our hard work through many years. As you did not cancel the reservation, you stopped us from selling it to others. We understand your dissatisfaction but we tried our best!

This is not an Inn you have a room in someone house. Upon entry you are advised to leave your shoes at the front door and bring suitcases upstairs yourself. AC Not working. 28 degrees in room. When expressing displeasure we were told we didn’t have to stay if we didn’t want but no refunds available. All in all a bad experience.

Because of the hot wave in Calgary during your stay, our A/C technicians were only able to come the following day. During your stay, we provided two fans for the room and the main central A/C was still working fine, only the upper AC was low on cold air. Our other guests were still comfortable, and we hope you understand we tried our best. As of now, the A/C technicians came and enhanced the upper A/C

It is not as advertised. We did mot stay. We lost ALL our money. Owner was creepy. Place smelled. Only 2hr oarking on street. No river view nor access. No proximity to shopping. Like a creepy smelly. Owner said if you refuse to stay you can get refund from Expedia. Then we were refued to refund. Total bad experience for a romantic night..

Westmount River Inn is a luxurious guest house. It is not a hotel but it offers many features. The house and the rooms are very spacious and luxurious. Many rooms have their own fireplaces, luxury multi jetted baths, luxury furniture and super comfy beds. Westmount River Inn is centrally located at steps to downtown, Kensington and river routes, with over 5100sf of development, this special house has over 7500 brd ft of HAND CRAFTED WOODWORK showing in artisan custom inlaid hardwood and endless detailed inlays throughout, built-ins, casings, wainscoting, keystone headers, and uniquely crafted doors!! This is a very expensive private property to stay at. This is a house and it needs some work. Overall the experience was very disappointing, we had a suite and the bed was comfortable but the shower came out rusty and was not clean. The “hotel provided” soaps were large (used) bottles of Irish spring and head and shoulders. Our room had an adjoining room that had a bicycle lock wrapped around the handles as the lock between the rooms. We were given a basement room that was cold with no room temperature control and a very thin blanket. In the morning you hear everything going on in the house above you so it was hard to sleep once others started to get up. We also made a computer error when we booked through Expedia and booked for the wrong day. The owners would not offer a refund or allow us to change to a later date and blamed us for a loss of clients even though the mistake was more than a week away and we tried to get ahold of them immediately after the mistake was made. It took 2 days for a call to reach someone at the property and no one is regularly available.

As you booked a nonrefundable stay, we tried to accommodate your cancellation by looking for a last-minute booking for those dates after which we could reimburse you. Unfortunately we could not accommodate your request for an immediate full refund. In addition, your rate was a 20% discount and we offered you an upgraded suite of 700 sq ft, with a luxurious leather sofa, living area, working area, multi jetted custom private bathroom, and super comfy queen bed.Our property is not a simple residence as you described, it is a concentrated meticulously crafted spec home. The house is unique, well kept, very spacious and extremely clean. Most of our guests have very good, enjoyable and relaxing, cozy stays. In addition, our property is located in Calgary’s village, a vibrant community of Kensington town where people actually live, work, shop, and play. It is only a few minutes to the University of Calgary, Foothills hospital, SAIT, downtown. We are surrounded by more than 200 businesses within walking distance. Westmount River Inn was recommended by many travellers and has many returning guests and we hope that those who stay with us in the future, can enjoy their stay !

A quiet place close to Downtown Calgary
Checking in was easy and we had a quick tour of the room. This accommodation is actually much bigger than the photos show. The bathtub is perfect for the big and tall and the dual sinks make getting ready in the morning much easier. Having an office area to the side of the fireplace meant I could take a video meeting and my spouse could stay out of sight in bed. Downstairs they had coffee and tea ready with muffins in the morning, and everything was just so easy. Also, we forgot an item on check-out and the staff was helpful in getting it back.

Great Location, Beautiful House, and Lovely Hosts! The owners Kim and John are two of the best hosts I’ve ever dealt with. This property is situated on a double lot and has lots of on street or back lane parking. Tesla Friendly! I will make this my location of choice during my next stay in Calgary!

WARNING: This property is a private home in which I did not feel safe. The owners do not provide refunds for cancellations we’ll in advance or under any circumstances. I arrived shortly after 9pm to a dark house with no sign indicating it was anything like an inn or hotel. It was a private home flanked by decrepit houses, facing a highway. The door was locked and there were no instructions on how to get or check in. I rang the doorbell over and over but no one came. I then looked up my reservation on email and called a number on it, and a man answered who said he’d heard me ringing. Once he knew who I was he said he’d let me in in a few minutes. Upon entry I was asked to take off my shoes. I noticed crucifixes and Virgin Mary art around the entryway. I “checked in” at a makeshift wobbly podium by showing my driver’s license. The man was sweaty, wearing shabby jeans and suspenders. He took me upstairs to my room and entered it with me, showing me around even though I carried all my own stuff and where things were were obvious. He seemed to expect a tip. There was no refrigerator in the room, no kettle, no way to make coffee or tea, and no ice available. After he left I closed the wooden French door to the room and couldn’t figure out how to lock it. The only lock was on the back of the doorknob and it was unreliable. Needless to say, as a woman traveling alone, I did not feel safe. I tried to cancel my 5-day reservation the next day and I was told there were no refunds.

We don't usually stay in bed and breakfast type lodging. But we were very pleasantly surprise at the stay at Westmount. Kim the owner was very accommodating of our needs for a ground floor room given our heavy suitcases and not wanting to damage the incredible wookwork in the home. She made us an excellent breakfast and we had pleasant conversations. She also gave us excellent advice on nearby restaurants. The location is perect to stay near downtown in a pretty neighborhood very close to the Bow river. Excellent accomodations and would recommend to others. Be careful with the location on digital maps since we almost went two doors down the street! And Kim insists on no shoes on those wonderful wood floors.
