They first issued us an inferior room to the one booked through Expedia. Then they moved us to the right room, but bedroom fan did not work, sink was clogged, and toilet broke and took 3 reports over 4 hours to get them to fix. Food service is typically slow, but not terrible. One day, food service took over 1.5 hours, most other customers who came after us were served before us, and they got my order wrong 3 times, even with Portuguese speaking customers translating for us. The manager brought out the right order finally and only said sorry - not willing to comp the meal or accommodate us in any way. Don't go expecting to get by only on English. You must speak Portuguese, Spanish or French for any chance to communicate and be understood. Some of the lovely and friendly serving staff even told us the hotel was not a 4 star hotel - it was 2 star at best. Buffet meals always started later than scheduled. You could feel the springs through the mattresses so you could not sleep well at night.
The island is fun to explore, water is warm, beaches are nice and clean. Diving is not world class; some of the literature it claims that the place is a marine reserve, but marine life was limited. Coral were mostly dead and there were few large fish. If you haven't been spoiled diving the Indo-Pacific, you will like it. Also, the dive shop owner is amazing. He and his staff are very accommodating and helpful. Unfortunately, the guides were touching marine life, but the owner stopped this.
