There is a strange smell throughout the hotel. The rooms are clean. The hotel is very noisy. You can hear every guest coming and going. The food is not that good.

Exceptional Service with rustic charm. We recently had the pleasure of staying at Soda Butte Lodge in Cooke City, Montana. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, we felt welcomed. Here are some highlights of our experience: Warm Hospitality: The owner, CJ, went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. Not only did they provide excellent service during regular hours, but they also served us past closing time in the restaurant. Their friendly demeanor made us feel like valued guests. Updated Rooms: The rooms have been tastefully updated, providing a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. The reviews and pictures I saw prior to our arrival had me a bit concerned but we could not have been happier with the updated flooring and decor. Ideal Location: Situated on Main Street, Soda Butte Lodge is conveniently located near Yellowstone National Park’s Northeast Entrance. It’s the perfect base for exploring the wildlife in Lamar Valley. We were also able to ride out Chief Joseph Highway for some amazing views. In summary, Soda Butte Lodge combines exceptional service, warm hospitality, and a prime location. We highly recommend it for anyone exploring the wonders of Cooke City and Yellowstone National Park.

Pretty much the exact same complaints as others. Very dirty overall. No pride in ownership or operation of a business. Such a shame as the property has so much potential. Just a thourough cleaning would make it reasonably acceptable even without any updating.

Always saw the cool old looking lodge hotel there on Main Street but I usually camp. They were the only ones open for mid October so we did it. The property has potential but the building is in need of repairs and updating. Our room 204 had water damage and was right by the stairs. Noise was near constant in the hallway, very thin walls and large cracks in the door reveal letting in outside noise. Think I had an allergic reaction to mold in the room but I can’t be sure.

This once nice hotel has seen better days. I like the location - between the Beartooth Highway and the Northeast Yellowstone Park (Lamar Valley) entrance. The carpet hasn't been replaced in years and resembles more what I'd expect to find in an Alaska hunting camp than in a lower 48 lodging facility. Our stay was in Oct. 2023, and yet a sign prominently posted at the check-in counter stated that "due to Covid" risk they wouldn't enter the rooms of those staying for multiple days (to clean or change the sheets), until after the end of the visit, but clean towels and linen would be provided upon request. The public bathroom is located on the floor below the dining area and reeks of sewer gas. I believe the septic systems very badly needs to be pumped out. Their internet access was good, given the remote location. The gas station across the street has great fresh bakery items and breakfast sandwiches after 7:00 am. I thought the beds were comfortable.

This looks like a 1960 property that's just hanging on for a few more years. Seems old dirty dark but very much a piece of History. The surrounding town has Shacks in it and in the afternoon people have a burn barrel across the street. Very unusual experience

It looks like at one time the hotel was a pretty nice place. As of now though the place is run into the ground.I would never stay there again nor would I recommend anybody ever stay there. The place has a foul Oder to it everywhere you go inside the building. This property needs to be remodeled.

The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean. But there seemed to be some kind of work going on just past us, so there were saws and other random noises until late and then started up early the next morning. The only staff we saw was at check-in. They were friendly, but the rest of the time we did not see anyone. The location is great, but the hotel needs some TLC.

Beautiful area. The whole town is run down and old. But that adds to the experience. Poor wi-go and zero cell service for the whole town which is really cool cuz I like getting away from all that. The food in the restaurant was flat out horrible. Plastic forks plates cups condiments in packets. But it all fits the very rustic atmosphere of the town. I wouldn’t stay there again.

This hotel is very unique and has a lot of potential. You can tell that many years ago this must have been such a cozy place to stay at. The “bones” of this place are still good and the conversation area in the lobby along with a fireplace is very inviting. But…the carpet is filthy, the doors don’t feel secure, the beds and bedding need updating, etc. Basically, the whole place needs a makeover. I know money can be tight and it would take a lot to fix it up, but as a customer, I also don’t want to waste my money on something uncomfortable.

Stay somewhere else!!!
Do yourself a favor and either find another hotel or sleep in the car. Bad smell in the lobby. We saw a roach in the hallway and in our room . The window screen was held in place with a plastic bag. We did not feel comfortable sleeping here, kept the lights on all night. We should have listened to all the other reviews.

Property is close to Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. While the room was somewhat small, especially the bathroom, it was warm & comfortable Good choice to stay as we wanted to get into the Park early the next morning. We checked in late in the evening. While the front desk had staff available, the person waiting on us was a bit abrupt & impatient.

Building is very old. Carpets were dirty and probably have not been cleaned EVER. Sink was dirty. Doors and floors are squeaky. Cigarette butts and trash all over the place outside. I would not recommend staying here unless you are desperate.

Everything about the property says OLD. The proprietor was nice enough and maybe they are new owners but this place is old and sure looks it. The beds and pillows were old, the paint on the walls was scarred up, carpet dirty looking, and bathroom not so clean. And very poor wifi and no cell service. That went for the whole city tho. We ate at a little restaurant Across the street and they didn’t have wifi either. We were trying to save money when visiting Yellowstone by staying outside the park, but I would not recommend this town. Sorry.

TV remote to turn on the tv was missing. Spoke with the employee at the desk 4 times about getting a remote. He kept assuring me that he had one and would bring it to me but he never did. All staff was very difficult to understand because of their thick accents.

This could be a great property however, the management is absolutely terrible. They make no effort to clean the property. The rooms are disgusting old have holes in the ceilings, mold in the shower and filthy carpets. They do not service the rooms even if you stay for multiple days. O towel service, bed service. Expedia should remove this property from their site immediately.

About the nicest thing you can say about this property was, "It was there." The workers seemed disinterested in service, the building was inadequately maintained (including soft spots in the floor), and no one was attending the front desk. It is very close to the NE entrance to Yellowstone Park, and that's a plus.

I dont know anything about the family that owns the hotel, but they serm to have completely missed the opportunity to own an old hotel/saloon at the edge of Yellowstone. Its almost like somebody gifted a historical hotel to a family that doesnt care to fix it up or play up its potential. Old, creaky, unwanted, and inhospitable.
