Lovely stay
We spent the week here for our honeymoon, it was wonderful. We had plenty of amenities, everything we needed to cook meals with, and enjoyed the solace together in nature. We will be back in the future!

Hidden Gem
Great stay for our family of 4! The cabin is very clean & cute, well represented by the photos. It’s very quiet & great for seeing the stars outside your door. Stayed here as we visited Big Bend, Marfa, Ft. Davis. The whole town lost power for a little bit during our stay which caused some issues, but our host was quick to respond & handle the situation. We would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic Views and a Perfect Getaway for Two
We cannot express how wonderful your cabin was for us. My husband loved the hiking and I liked the privacy. We didn't get to use the screened-in porch since it was winter but I can see how great it would be when the bugs come out in the spring or summer. The kitchen was rustic but serviceable, I so appreciated there being ground coffee to use. Many places don't have even one packet of sugar post-Covid. There were spices and olive oil and skillets. Again, nothing fancy but serviceable. We had trouble getting channels on the TV but we weren't there to watch TV. Ft. Davis Mountains State Park and the McDonald observatory are very close by as is Marfa. The only trouble we had was locking the gate with the chain and combination locks. Not something we are used to being from the big City. Thanks again for hosting us. We will need to come back when it's not so cold and make reservations ahead of time at the observatory.

Perfect Mountain and Hiking Getaway
This place is a gem with stunning mountain views all around. It is also quite secluded yet only a mile or so from Ft. Davis with restaurants and a fairly new grocery store (Porter's). The hiking was awesome with private trails right in your "back yard"---a private ranch with private mountain trails. The state park nearby also offers a variety of hiking trails from easy to moderate to difficult trails. The guest house has a full kitchen, living area, a good size bedroom and bathroom. There is also a screened-in porch on the back. And the night sky views are stunning with zero light pollution in the area. Our host Jenniffer was very responsive and easy to communicate with. This was our second stay here and we'll be back the next time we visit Ft. Davis.

Isolation and Solitude
My wife and I have stayed here on two occasions and will, most likely, return next year. The cabin is unique: no neighbors or lights within sight, serene silence surrounds and insolation in that the cabin is one mile on a no traffic dirt road with a locked gate securing the property.

Fort Davis getaway
My brother and I are astrophotographers. We chose this location since it is ideal for astronomy with no city or neighborhood lights. The house was ideal for our needs. Had all the creature comforts including good WiFi which comes in handy when our computers or software need on the spot updating. The setting is secluded, peaceful and a great place to unwind yet still close enough to Fort Davis for grocery shopping etc. overall this facility and Jennifer exceeded our expectations. We look forward to staying here again for our next astronomy junket or for a secluded stay with my wife. The house is large enough for two couples to stay. The directions were timely and accurate. Easy to check in. Had everything we needed for cooking and comfort. Great air conditioning which was very appreciated as the temp was near 100 outside.

Beautiful. Was not expecting it to be so secluded while only a mile from town.
Clean. Beautiful views. No one in sight except for cars way off in the distance. A tight fit for four of us, ie wife and 2 teens. Surprised they had decent Wi-Fi. Screened back porch with table for 4, open front porch with adorondike(sp?) and rocking chairs. Would to live there. Wonderful experience

Couple’s Retreat to the Mountains
What a beautiful ranch and wonderful property! Secluded…tucked away in the mountains…yet a few miles to Ft. Davis and the Davis Mountains SP. The Observatory is also a quick drive from the cabin. Perfect get-a-way for a couple wanting quiet and relaxation!

Pictures don’t describe it
The pictures in the ad for this property are appealing but they do not come close to the beauty and awe of experiencing up close this wonderful location surrounded by the mountains and cliffs and natural beauty!

Relaxing getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Both porches are exceptionally relaxing spots for your morning and evening beverages. Nearby attractions to enjoy in the afternoon make you feel like you actually saw the sites. My husband was able to set his equipment of several nights for astrophotography. He is pleased with what he shot so far.

Big Bend Best

Blessed Solitude
Wonderful place to get away and unwind! No neighbors but close to town. Don’t expect a paved road to the door, it’s a typical country farm road just like I grew up on and learned to drive. Take it easy and you’ll be fine. Cabin is cozy and clean. Great porch to sit and ponder life or just forget about everything! Not fancy but has everything you need. We slept like babies and woke refreshed everyday. Just what a mountain getaway should be!

Perfect cabin in the mountains
We stayed here in June and loved it. It’s the perfect mix between a secluded mountain cabin but a very short drive to town to grab food or groceries. The views are beautiful and it’s very close to the observatory. We will def stay here again.

Quiet isolated cabin.
The 360 degree view around the cabin is all mountains, cliffs, grasses, bushes, cactus, trees all with no traffic, no cars, no lights, no noise--solitude. The dirt road from 118 is 1/2 mile to the locked gate. The dirt road from the locked gate is one mile to the cabin--totally private with no entry except for the owner.

Peace and Quiet
Thanks so much for the chance to stay at Cabana Escondida. It was everything and more for what we needed in a summer reset: a gem hidden in a secluded, beautiful, and peaceful setting. I can’t imagine a better place to stay. We had a great time. The cabin was not fancy, which was perfect because we don’t need nor want fancy. Instead it was perfectly comfortable, clean, and well equipped. Thanks again :)

Secluded spot in Ft. Davis
We have really enjoyed staying here for the past two years when our kids attended Prude Ranch Summer Camp in Ft. Davis. This cabin is perfect for 2 people. Beautiful surroundings and close to town but far enough away that you don't hear any sounds from town. Extremely peaceful. Would recommend to anyone trying to get away and enjoy the beautiful Davis Mountains. Great wi-fi in the cabin as well.

Perfectly Peacful
I found the listing and was hopeful it would be as it appeared. It was BETTER! So much better. The cabin is very clean and well appointed with anything you would need. The bed was comfortable and the spaces were ample. what the pictures do not show you are... the sweet breeze that whiffs across the porches, the sound of so many bird variety sweetly singing, the absence of all the sounds of city life, and the stars! Oh my, so beautiful. I can say, I really did not want to leave. We were lucky to see deer, turkey, baby hogs, rabbits, and so many birds. My husband, the history buff was so interested in the article about the ranch that is hanging in the kitchen. As is usual he wanted to know even more. If you are interested in a true get away from city life, I highly recommend La Cabana Escondido.

Nice totally secluded cabin.
I loved the total seclusion of the cabin. The location is fantastic! I do have two suggestions. Please have some instructions in the cabin on how to use the thermostat. We had never seen one like that before. And you need to get an electrician to work on the toggle switches in the bathroom. Otherwise everything was great. Wish we had had more time to spend there.

Perfect in every way.
The cabin is in a beautiful setting. It is convenient to town but secluded and quiet. There was an abundance of wildlife and plenty of area to hike and explore. The host had obviously thought of everything we might need. This very special place made for an unforgettable trip!

Great Place for a Short Stay
We stayed the first part of December and got to see the gold fall color in trees along the creek. The cabin is warm, quiet, and well outfitted with a small refrigerator and and small electric coil range. Porter’s grocery is close and there are restaurants nearby. The ceiling fans, wall unit a/c and baseboard heater are quiet, and the roll down shades block out all the light. The host is very helpful and replies quickly and has decorated the place with a simple artistic rustic vibe that fits the area. We enjoyed our stay, it felt like home.

Great Location
Great location to visit all the sights near Fort Davis. The cabin is located behind a ranch property gate, approximately one mile up a good dirt road. No other houses are located on the private property, so very private. It is secluded but within a ten minute drive or less to Fort Davis NHS, town or Davis Mountains State park. We saw deer everyday during our stay. The cabin is comfortably rustic and was very clean. If you want privacy with beautiful views, this is the place.

Beautiful solitude
We loved everything about this little place. Perfect for 1-2 ppl, very well stocked, and pristinely clean. Very responsive host, great location. Enjoyed gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and felt like we had a piece of West Texas all to ourselves. Note: easier access with larger/taller vehicles. We came in after a big rain, and had to drive over a flowing creek crossing and several patches of standing water and/or mud to reach the cabin. Did so with relative ease, but would’ve been a little difficult with a small car.

Best remote stay in Ft. Davis
My husband and I truly enjoyed our week's stay at this vacation home. It was remote and we didn't see anyone else on the road to the house the entire week we were there. We saw wild turkeys and deer each morning in the fields and a sweet baby fox visited us one morning. This is a perfect stay for 2-4 people. There is a half wall dividing the living room from the bedroom. Delightful furnishing and lovely back screened porch. All the pots and pans/knives etc that we needed were in the kitchen. Make sure you stock up on food b/c it does take about 5-10 minutes to get to the main road from this cottage. Just a couple of minutes away from Ft. Davis State Park and the lovely quaint town of Ft. Davis. We would definitely stay here again!

Great cabin that feels remote
The cabin feels remote with the mountains surrounding it. The front and back porches were great for watching birds and just enjoying the outside including the deer that watched us. The cabin had everything you could need and it was a great base for us to explore the nearby area - Davis Mountains State Park, Chihuanhuan Nature Center, Fort Davis Historic Site, and McDonald Observatory. The bird watching from the cabin was great and included acorn woodpeckers and hummingbirds. The host was great and was very helpful as we coordinated the trip.

The most beautiful setting we've ever stayed in and the cabin is wonderful. It is super clean, equipped with everything needed, and extremely comfortable. Jennifer is wonderful host! Her response to questions was immediate and very helpful! She made us feel welcome and right at home.
