I stayed in the Maison d'Orient for the second time and liked it as much as the first time.
The staff is friendly and helpful without being over the top. Check in was efficient, and our luggage was brought up to our room by the staff, which was fortunate as we had a room on the 5th floor (no lift).
The room was simple but with all necessary mod cons, i.e. an efficient and quite A/C, shower with plenty of hot water, toilet, small balcony and a great view over the rooftops of the neighbourhood, a comfy bed, and a small fridge pre-stocked with water, some softdrinks and a few beers.
Breakfast is included in the room rate, and there is a a choice of eggs (scrambled, omelette, fried, boiled) or a bowl of vietnamese broth and noodles, which is also very tasty.
In addition to this there is of course coffee, tea, fresh watermelon juice, cakes, toast, etc. In other words, more than enough to get you started for the day.
The location of the hotel is in a small alley, in the warren of small streets between the old quarter and the cathedral. It is (relatively) quite at night, apart from the odd cockerel making himself heard, and it is a great location as a starting point for exploring the city.
As is usual in Vietnam, there is free wifi available in the lobby and the rooms.
Can warmly recommend the place.
