Night stay
Good location and ambience outside the cabins. However, cabins are not maintained at all - doors not opening, there is no hot water, and shower area does not drain properly. Breakfast was decent, nothing extrodinary (did not have any options). Stay could definitely have been better for the price they charged.

Un lugar hermoso. Además se pueden realizar senderos dentro de la propiedad que llevan a catarata y otro a aguas termales.

Las instalaciones son hermosas, tienen un lago y se encuentra muy muy cerca del Volcán y el Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja, la limpieza estuvo bien, la comida en el restaurante no tienen mucha variedad pero no está mal.

Hotel con gran potencial
El hotel posee gran potencial no aprovechado, falta inversión en remodelar las cabinas y en ofrecer servicios turísticos al huésped.

Excelente lugar, bonito para el disfrute de varios días y la ubicación es buena para disfrutar de todo lo que ofrece el Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja. Creo que lo más desagradable es estar pagando peajes para entrar ahí.

Noche de terror. Los bichos se metían a la habitación, el lugar no está limpio, la ducha no sirve, agua caliente no sirve, el lugar no huele bien, el desayuno frío y con mucha grasa, el pan estaba duro y el jugo de naranja con partículas negras que no supe de que era. El lugar no vale lo que pague y al final perdí una noche adicional pues tuve que reservar en otro hotel, jamás volvería a ese lugar. Habitación número 40

Good Basic Service
We we were with another friend couple. Communication in English not easy. Some services were not available because cancelled for ever : hot spring pool and zipline. These need to be known on the web site. Also, better information about the National Park would be appreciated.

Beautiful property, but cottages are in need of some maintenance. The lock on our front door did not work - you could just push it open. I saw the biggest cockroach in my life in the bathroom at night. Rooms were HOT at night and the fan was old and not effective. Pool was maintained but small. Breakfast was wonderful and staff were great. I would not take the hike to the hot springs. The springs are definitely "Natural" not maintained and you cannot go in. I would turn around at the waterfall Hotel is off the beaten path, but again a beautiful property. Its a far drive to any towns, so ensure you bring water and snacks with you - although there are no fridges to store anything

Amazing hotel. Amazing property. Adrian was extremely helpful. Gave great advice. The hike to the waterfall and hot springs was great. Food also fantastic.

Staff was extremely kind and helpful. Great location to explore Rincon de la vieja with a lower budget. Rustic cottage may gain by having a little fridge. Be careful, area has a lot of ticks.

Our individual cabin was a quaint and quiet place to stay on expansive, landscaped grounds with a pool and pond. There was a trail behind the cabins, which eventually leads to a hot spring. We didn't have time to hike the whole trail but what we did was very nice. Fortunately, there was a restaurant on site, because there was no nearby shopping available. We would have enjoyed having some kitchen facilities in the cabins though. There was plenty of room for a small fridge, cooktop and sink. The lodge is near Rincon de la Vieja National Park so was a very convenient place for us to stay and the staff was helpful and friendly.

This is such a unique and wonderful place BUT not for everyone. Location is perfect if you are visiting Rincon de la vieja. We drove for 40 min on gravel roads with big holes to get here. Its in the middle of nowhere so make sure you have everything you need before you get here. There is one restaurant on site and one bar. Compared to the price of this lodge the restaurant is expensive and does not have a great selection but every one are super nice. We would use the restaurant to access internet since there is no internet in the rooms. This place is beautiful but its very basic. No AC the staff are all super accommodating and want you enjoy and have a great time.

We decided to go for a hike to the waterfall and to the sulphur pool. It was a 4 km hike. The waterfall was small and the sulphur pool was not well-maintained. When we arrived back at the lodge, we noticed that we had ticks all over our bodies. We thought we had removed them off and then went to an adventure park with Sulphur pools and mud bath. When we came back to the lodge, we found even more ticks on us. The room was OK but the beds were very uncomfortable and there was no air-conditioning which was fine because there was a fan. Unfortunately, the fan was very loud. The staff were very friendly, which was a plus. The burger I had was not very good. There wasn’t enough staff. There was one bartender that was going between the bar and the restaurant. The grounds were kept up well. Unfortunately, I probably wouldn’t stay there again, but that was just me.

Hello, thank you very much Mr. Andre for taking the time to comment and give us feedback, we always take each comment into account, however I tell you that our rooms are cleaned very rigorously every day, we are in the middle of the mountain and a forest and near rivers, so insects such as mosquitoes may be common at some point outside the room, this place is very simple to disconnect from phones and busy life, take a breather to nature, we invite you to Visit us again so we can do our best to make sure you and your family have a great time.Greetings

Nous avons adoré nos deux nuits ici. Les bungalow sont effectivement simple et peut être un peu vieillissants mais la beauté du jardin, la sympathie des équipes, les sentiers privés accessible dans la propriété, la piscine et la proximité au parc national font du lodge Ricon de la Vieja un hôtel au meilleur rapport qualité prix connu ici au Costa Rica ! Merci pour tout ! Et le restaurant à une carte simple mais les plats sont copieux et délicieux.

Beautiful grounds and a swimming pool. Traditional food options were delicious, as well as the included breakfast. Nice hike from the property but watch out for ticks. You do have to pay $3 USD to pass through the park to get to the hotel so have some USD or Colones. Overall a beautiful spot with more rustic rooms.

Not for the faint of heart!
The reviews that call this place basic or rustic really aren’t kidding! My expectations were fairly low and I was still unpleasantly surprised. It’s not awful but really it’s like cabin camping and also somewhat run-down. On the upside, it was clean, hot water shower, and the breakfast was good. Other meals were so-so. Downsides include cold water only in sink, corrugated metal roof and a general state of disrepair. Worst part was the power went out one night and they were totally unprepared for this—no back up lighting anywhere (including restaurant), no candles, lanterns or flashlights for guests to use. If we hadn’t packed a small flashlight we would have been in total darkness in our cabin. I had a candle but they had no matches! Very dark and twisty walkways from restaurant to cabins. This seemed very dangerous and irresponsible to me. No one took charge and we were on our own. I do have to say the young women staffing the place were trying their best and one was accommodating with food (toast and papaya all day!) when my husband was under the weather. And regarding the weather, there are extremely strong winds here at certain times and the flimsiness of the cabins made this very nerve-wracking. Couldn’t sleep for fear of trees falling on us.

This place is a gem! We're so glad we came across this place and booked it. The staff was very friendly, food was yummy and the rooms are cute. It was excellent for our one night stay. Obviously, this is not a luxury hotel, so the rooms only have the basics and are super simple, but the surrounding areas are beautiful and it will definitely helps (in my experience) disconnect from the busy city noise. Please note the entrance is through a private property, so there is an entrance fee (about $1.50) per person 15 min or so before the hotel. Also, once you pay that fee you'll have access to the bike trails. The entrance to the national park is just around the corner so this is the perfect place to stay to enjoy the park. I'd definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
