One word, charm! One can find quite a few high end lodgings that for the most part are not as successful as Historias Lodge in conveying something, anything. Historias from Lucho the one eyed Chihuahua who is a staple either greeting guests to begging for food at the breakfast area conveys a families vision of how they see hospitality. I had course to take a tour, and overheard a Spanish couple remark "oh what a charming place" something most people remark when they first cast gaze on Historias. It is a rambling two story structure larger than it appears at first glance. What is most eye catching is the beautiful passion fruit like vine that covers the entire second store in a type of arbor. The first level is textured concrete while the second floor is wood. The room was ample with two sitting chairs, a minifridge, cable TV, Wifi, a bathroom with hot water. And a marvelous plate glass window overlooking the shrubbery. The Location is roughly halfway from town center and the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Even though it is near quite a few businesses i.e. supermarket, bakery, restaurants it is very quiet. I had my most restful stay in Costa Rica at Historias. It does not have air conditioning but does have a fan. Luckily the year round cool temperatures keep it from being oppressively hot. The included breakfast of a plate of cut fruit, eggs, toast, freshly squeezed orange juice, toast, coffee and or tea was something to look forward to in the mornings.
