This was the first stop for my husband and I on our 20th anniversary weeklong trip. This place is absolutely gorgeous with the most beautiful scenery. It is exactly what we needed to start our trip. It was so incredibly relaxing and the staff was incredible. The house is stunning and the rooms are so cozy. The only recommendation I would offer is regarding breakfast. We were a bit surprised at the offerings at breakfast, especially since the home showcases a beautiful kitchen upon entering the front door. We expected something of the hot variety, yet there was yogurt, bread for toasting, hard boiled eggs and granola.StephanieSep 18, 2023Our Response:We are so grateful you chose Talus Rock Retreat as a stop on your anniversary journey. You are truly delightful guests who cozied right on in. Our apologies that you found our self-serve continental breakfast bar lacking and that is duly noted. And we started out so well! We are so sorry your experience declined during your stay with us. We had bumped up the temperature a couple of degrees for another guest and the change sadly did you no favor. We do supply a portable fan and heater in each room as well since we find every guest has personal heating/cooling preferences and this provides extra individual control. It's the "Goldilocks Effect." We apologize you didn't find your "just right." We did certainly fill the house at the last minute to help a local AirBNB accomodate their last minute surprise overflow. Unfortunately that neighborly generosity appears to have affected our typically serene ambiance. The tone of the house is truly unique each night with all of the various personalities coming and going. Sorry the last minute check-ins caused a tilt for you and your delightful crew.

Thank you for this lovely review, Sheila! The Kipling Room is certainly a favorite of both guests and staff. The blue jetted tub and the Talavera tiles in that bathroom are dreamy. We appreciate your mention of the towels as we are always looking for ways to improve our service. We've been slowly upgrading our linens. The towels should be both clean and stain free. How embarrassing! We actually do have new towels on order and are circulating the less than stellar ones out. Apparently we need to rotate more quickly and examine more closely. Trying to be eco-friendly, they do get pushed to live out their full life-cycles. We do have loose tea! It didn't get placed back out after a full-house booking, for which we apologize. For breakfast, we always offer the ever popular bananas, and one or two seasonal fruits depending on how many guests we expect in house. The Greek yoghurt and toppings for parfaits are a guest favorite, and hard boiled eggs in lieu of an all carb breakfast please many frequent flyers. We'd love to hear what would elevate the Breakfast Bar offerings for you! Please come again soon, and we'll see about earning that last star for you.

Are we a lodge? A B&B? An Inn? It's hard to pinpoint. We ARE a place where the staff is delightfully caring, the lodging has a well-traveled, cozy, eclectic flair and the stay matters as it notably helps with local and international charity projects. Hello, John. We are truly sorry your experience with us didn't meet your expectations and you did not personally feel comfortable using our lovely amenities. We do, indeed, have quiet hours from 9 pm to 9 am to provide true rest and relaxation for our guests. This very rarely inhibits any guests from freely utilizing the extra fun of our hot tub, infrared sauna, and such. They simply keep down their volume in respect of other guests. We do wish you had let us know while you were still here as we are always readily available by phone, even if not visible. This very low rating hurts our hearts as we work so hard to provide guests with exemplary experiences. We would be forever grateful if you would reconsider, remove this, and give us another try. Let us know there was an issue when you next book and we'll do all in our power to make your next experience with us stellar! Thank you.

Hello! Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you fell ill during your stay with us and we hope you're feeling better. As an environmentally conscious facility and business, we practice as such and pride ourselves on clean and resourceful waste management. Our staff composts to help protect our environment along with only burning natural fuels; mostly wood we cut from fallen trees on the property. When we received your complaint, 2 staff members combed the grounds and new construction build in an effort to find the source of any burning. The only thing going at that time was the wood-burning stove, which was thoroughly checked and only burning wood.  To be absolutely certain, we did inquire with our maintenance staff who maintain the build site and were assured that they do not burn plastic, ever. While we do not dismiss your experience, we do emphatically stand behind our maintenance crew and the staff who investigated your claims. Of course, we can only speak to our own actions and cannot account for our neighbors; however, any detectable scent was gone within 20 minutes of your deciding to leave a night early.  We're so glad you enjoyed the property and we hope that you will come back and get the whole experience Talus Rock has to offer when you are feeling better.
