Somehow my booking got mixed up with an ensuite double room to a backpackers double room, the staff were pathetic, particularly when you consider the room I booked was more than my last day for an ensuite double room, no offered to change it no offer to upgrade me yet I'm a regular customer I find the service pathetic

Very nice, clean, quiet hostel. Staff really easy and friendly. Bit removed from the action but there’s a bus stop probably 20 meters from the hostel so not a big deal. Great place

The staff were really lovely and helpful. The room however was a converted basement that probably shouldn't have been used as a sleeping room. It smelt of damp and mould and my daughter had health/breathing issues. The other guests created noise late into the night, talking on phones outside our window so we didn't sleep well. The fridge was leaking water and seemed unstable. There was no soap in the shower, which I would have expected for the cost. On a positive note, the room was clean and if I was a young person and was travelling, I think it would be a good option to stay and meet other young people. It was a good distance from Glebe shopping village and the bay.

I paid for a single room, staff was good and room is clean overall. However, someone banged the front door all night or the door is generally shut with loud noise, it wasn’t a good experience.

It was a great experience to stay at the hostel. Nice area and very cool people and staff. The communication with Atakan was very easy going and fun. Would recommend it to others :)

Staff is exceptionally friendly. Situated in a cute/quiet area of Sydney. A few cafes within walking distance but for a Coles/woolies it's a bit far. Beds were comfy and everything was clean. No partying/heavy drinking was going on which is nice.

I stayed in a private room just for a night as I had an event. Great location. Very easy to get to and from Sydney Central. It's within walking distance to a number of cafes/restaurants. .

I have not been discriminated in regards, my age and gender as badly, as when I was discriminated against by these people, very poor property very badly managed. And they refused to give me a refund even know I was not allowed to stay there.

They messed up our booking which made us homeless for nye. I booked it for 2 people but they told me the day before we arrive that they only had 1 bed available.They wanted us to pay another $250 for another bed, just for 1 night! which wasn’t in our budget. So I cancelled it and they said they’ll refund me but it’s been over a week and haven’t received anything, I’ve tried to contact them but got no reply.

Hi there Ellie - as our receptionists would have mentioned, the issue was actually that Expedia itself overbooked us over NYE due to a glitch in their system and not ours. We have raised the issue with them already, and believe it has already been fixed. As per your refund, this was already done on the 31st at 11:39am as we have already mentioned in our communication with you. If it hasn't appeared in your account, I suggest calling your bank and checking which card was used for your booking as we refunded the payment back onto the original card. We hope to see you back at The Village so we can make a better second impression.

Don’t stay here!
Awful experience – despite the website saying reception opens at 8.30, no staff turned up until 11. Check in starts at 2 & yet the reception staff said the room was “still being cleaned” at that time. No bed sheets were provided, until the “night manager” walked into the room at 1.30AM to deliver sheets. Stains all over the mattress including mould stains. There were cockroaches in communal areas and staff were generally unaccommodating and unhelpful. There were lots of other problems but these were the mains ones – definitely would not recommend staying here.

I tried to check in when I arrived, check in process was horrendous when their phone number doesn't work and they only respond via email. Keep in mind the following interaction was through email and you will understand how frustrating it is to wait for a reply. They told me my room is not available and they sent me a cancellation email which I never received. When I asked them what's going on, they told me to just contact Expedia to get a refund when I was sitting in their reception (nobody is at the desk). They asked me to see if I want to go to one of the other rooms, so I asked them if there's a phone number I can call to sort this out and they just stopped responding. Expedia contacted them to ask for a refund (through email as their phones don't work) and I'm still waiting for my refund a week later.

It was a nice and new looking accommodation. You can check in and out online without needing the reception. But sometimes it’s hard when nobody is there. The only bad thing was, that the mattresses in our room were a little bit dirty and the sheets as well. But all in all it was a good one and there is a bus stop directly in front of the door, so really easy connection to the central station and the city.

Impractical, inaccessible and uncomfortable.
This place is incredibly difficult to find. The street number is hidden, and there is no sign. The street number is also incorrect. When you get to the door, it tells you to go to another address. By the time you’ve figured out how to find the first address, you at least know which direction to go, which is just as well, because the second building you need to find is not even numbered, let alone signed. Luckily someone heard us wandering up and down the street counting driveways, and pointed out the building we wanted. We then started the lengthy process of trying to figure out how to get in. If you’ve seen an Indiana Jones movie, you may have some idea about how this works. Thankfully, a multi-page email provides details of the ten (yes, 10!) steps you will need to go through in order to access the building and your room. If you’re very lucky, someone might come and let you into your floor, or perhaps they’ll have propped a door open, because that step is wrong. Good luck! In case any of the 10 steps presents an impenetrable barrier to your check in, a phone number is conveniently provided, which allows you to leave a message that no one will respond to. In the room, there was an airconditioner, but no remote, so it can't be used and you have to confront Sydney's horrific humidity unaided. I have travelled all over the world and never have I encountered a hostel so determined to keep its guests out or melt them if they're unlucky enough to get in.

nice place and cheap. there is a lot of work being done on the building so lots of new things being installed. room was VERY hot to sleep with only one window though. need phone and an app to open doors which was a bit weird so make sure your phone is charged. would stay again.

The amenities are tired and grimy. The checking was the most unfriendly experience I have had of checking into a backpackers or similar small accommodation place in 25 years of extensive travel, as a adventure tour guide and private travel across dozens of countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North & South America and the Middle east. The 'Smart' room locks did not work as advertised w/ numbered code and required an phone app; good luck if your phone goes flat late at night accessing the building, your room or even going to the toilet. The kitchen was ok, the lounge felt like an old teen retreat in a half abandoned room with a half full fish tank sinking the place out. Lots of potential here, but no care taken - reduced traveller numbers due to Covid is no excuse for this lack of service and feel.

I booked a three bedded dorm then it was switched to 4 bedded room with opposite sex stayed in together. I expected a female room mate, well, great. Smh..... Location is amazing, close to tramshed, on main street of the quiet side. Price was great as well.

Unfortunately my experience here wasn’t great. The receptionist didn’t know much and took forever to check in. Simple questions baffled her. Once directed to another building, I walked over to be met with locked doors and absolutely NO signs anywhere on how to get in. The reception area in this building was closed. I went to press the night bell (even though it was 3pm) and guess what!?! The bell has been removed. So I looked at the check in information I was given, nothing. I looked for more signs to tell me how to get in. Nothing. Fortunately another guest was walking past inside and opened the door for me. Then I had NO idea where to go as there were no signs. Oh, sorry. Yes there were. There was about 7 Signs telling you to bring your linen to the reception at check out, but no map, no indication of where to go. I finally found the staircase and climbed up 3 flights and got to my room. (I have a broken back so doing this was painful enough), only to get to my room and the key pass doesn’t work!! I had to call the hotel and tell them I couldn’t get in. I then had to wait 15 mins for someone to come by to give me the “right” key. The room was stuffy and the fan was full of dust, the bathrooms stank and were dirty and the entire building is a echo chamber so when someone opens and closes a door, it is so loud. And they do it ALL night!! Invest in some better soft close doors, educate your staff and for goodness sake, put up a map and a sign so people know where to go!
