Hands-down the best place we stayed during our 2.5 week trip to Hawaii! Barry and Jim were wonderful hosts, we were greeted by Barry as soon as we arrived! He helped get us settled in and showed us around the cabin. The cabin comes stocked with breakfast items, coffee, and fresh fruits! It is located close to Volcanos National Park, so it was perfect for my husband and I since we love hiking! The cabin was spotless and the bed was very comfortable! When we go back to Hawaii, we will definitely be staying here again! Thanks so much Barry and Jim!

This was a totally unique property, with a cozy cabin near the volcanoes. The hosts were amazing, with lots of tips and suggestions. They were very accommodating to a few requests we had. The yard is absolutely beautiful (I love gardening!). The cabin is rustic with non-drinkable water and a gas fireplace, but drinking water is provided in jugs. That is the only inconvenience, and very minor for us! I highly recommend this cabin for a unique place to stay.

We had a great stay here and would recommend it. The cabin and grounds were both beautiful. The only thing that made us a little annoyed was that even though we showed up at 6:00pm, our cabin still wasn't ready, and we had to stand there there and make small talk with the owner, while he made the bed and cleaned the bathroom, not what you want to do after traveling and hiking all day. Other than that, the owners were lovely.

Wonderful cabin close to Volcanoes NP
This was an excellent place to stay! The cabin was cozy and clean and had everything we needed for our family stay. Barry and Jim were wonderful hosts and genuinely care that you enjoy your stay. Convenient breakfast food was very much appreciated and came in handy when woke up at 3 am. :) We would definitely stay here, again, if we come back to the Big Island. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality, Barry and Jim!

Crater Rim Cabin is a piece of heaven. This was our second visit, can’t wait till our third! Hosts are awesome, grounds in the rain forest are spectacular, cabin is immaculate with many thoughtful snacks and amenities. Can’t get any closer to Volcano National Park. This cabin is a real gem and perfect getaway.

Some of the best hospitality we have ever experienced. This stay was one to remember. I guarantee you wont find a cleaner place. The grounds are its own botanical garden. I stood in the same place in the garden and just stared for half an hour straight. We will be back!

It was amazing! There was a large supply of food for breakfast that lasted for 3 mornings. The landscapeing was fantasticly beautful. It was close to the town, Volcano, with two good restaurants and a general store for necessities. The cabin was also well stocked with natural history, geology, and local informational materials. The kids really liked that... and the flashlights. It was very nice to chat with Barry and get some of his and the cabin's story. We'd definitely recommend this place!

Lovely stay.
Rustic charm, but served up with care. Notes provided around the place stayed one step ahead of my need. Conveniently close to Vocanoes Nat’l Park and restaurants, but the standout was the beautiful garden surroundings. Very different from rest of the island. Would definitely stay again when visiting the park.

This was the MOST charming property I've ever visited. Barry and Jim were the most incredible hosts. From the start of the communication where Jim provided maps and communication to ensure we knew how to find the cabin, to the easy and meaningful conversation with Barry, we felt welcomed and more like friends. The cabin was spotless--seriously. There was not a speck of dust to be found. There was bread, eggs, milk, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, etc. for breakfast which was fantastic. The grounds were so beautiful with so many colorful flowers. At night, you could see the glow from the nearby erupting volcano from the bedroom, and it was beautiful. The location was perfect to access the National Park. I loved, loved, loved this cabin and Jim and Barry. I can't recommend it enough.

We absolutely loved this cabin. The hosts Barry and Jim are helpful and very appreciative. The surrounding areas are absolutely beautiful and well maintained. Beautiful flowers everywhere. The weather was perfect. Cool days and nights get chilly. Very close To the Volcanoes National Park. Lava flows and billions of stars to gaze At. Would definitely stay here again. Crater Rim Cabin is a fantastic place to stay. It is just minutes away from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park making it one of the most convenient places in the area. The cabin itself is amazing. It’s clean and has everything you need, including a kitchenette. The property is gorgeous. And the owners are amazing. They are so friendly and helpful. They provided us with a ton of information for our stay and the area in general. We would absolutely recommend Crater Rim Cabin to anyone looking for a place to stay on Big Island, especially if you’re looking to stay near the volcanoes.

Barry and Jim were remarkable hosts. We have traveled extensively in the US and abroad and this was one of the most delightful lodging experiences we ever had! Our cabin was immaculate with dozens if not hundreds of beautiful personal touches. The property looks like a small botanical garden.

Cozy, classy, and volcano glow!!
Awesome cabin! Incredibly cozy and comfortable and Jim and Barry have thought of everything! Loved having gorgeous flowers to greet us, DVDs with history of the volcano, and breakfast. We were lucky enough to see the orange volcano glow from the back window. You can’t stay closer unless you are in the park (and I chose this cabin over the military cabins). This cabin was built in the 40s by a geologist. In addition to everything else, it’s architecture was worth the stay. So many reasons this was a great choice - we just didn’t stay long enough!

Wonderful and woodsy
A really terrific spot right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park. Wonderfully located deep in the woods. Despite the challenges of a rare and destructive storm, our hosts were unfailingly upbeat and helpful. The cabin was charming and cozy, clean, and chock full of essentials and treats.

The cabin was amazing. A beautiful property in a convenient location if you want to check out Volcanoes National Park, or even Hilo. We loved the DVDs about the last volcano eruption and Polynesian culture that were available. Everything in the cabin was very thoughtfully placed and useful. Really a great place to stay!

Perfection!
Our stay was perfect!! The attention to detail and thoughtful touches were extraordinary. The cabin was quaint and cozy and extremely clean. There were a lot of books, brochures, and DVD’s about Hawaii which were very helpful. It was less than 5 minutes drive to the Volcano National Park and to local restaurants. Highly recommend!!!

CRB&B was PERFECT! Our cozy "cabin" was immaculate! Barry and Jim are warm, welcoming, and feel like old friends. The care they've taken to make certain their guests have an exceptional time is evident in myriad ways. The electric blanket was such a treat on coolish nights. Coffee was perfect. Bathroom products were exceptional. WiFi was (mostly) great. (And when it wasn't it was no fault of the proprietors.) Though torrential rains made our exploration of Volcano unfortunately challenging, CRB&B was the PERFECT shelter. Seriously, I can't imagine a more perfect place for anyone visiting the area. Thank you so much, Barry and Jim.

The Crater Rim Cabin is a true gem. It is a detached unit with a large living room, kitchen, shower and separate bedroom. The cabin is tastefully decorated with quality furniture and accessories. It includes a covered parking spot. The hosts, Jim and Barry, are fantastic ! There are countless thoughtful touches throughout the cabin. From plenty of reading material about Hawaii to a fully equipped kitchen including useful but rare items such as tumblers for coffee. The cabin was extremely clean. The cabin includes breakfast, which is provided with a fully stocked fridge including eggs and milk, cereals/oatmeal and plenty of fresh fruits. The local bananas are to die for ! The cabin is perfect for exploring the Volcano National Park as well as the Pahoa, Hilo areas and the east coast of Hawaii. We only stayed for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer. If the cabin is available on your travel dates, don't hesitate to book it. It is a unique find.

We LOVED our stay at the Crater Rim Cabin! The cabin is beautiful, roomy, well-appointed and romantic . . . a really unique place. We appreciated so many things about it: attractive living spaces, the easy-to-operate fireplace, helpful materials, and many thoughtful touches. From all the rooms, there are views of the beautiful grounds surrounding the cabin. Given its restful surroundings, it is surprisingly convenient . . . just 2.5 miles from the park entrance and visitor center and close to the town of Volcano for dining options. Our hosts, Jim and Barry, were excellent: knowledgeable, helpful and welcoming. From detailed information on the volcanos (they are geologists) to great touring tips and dining recommendations, they were superb. The Crater Rim Cabin is a very special place and we feel very lucky to have found it.

First of all coming back home and getting into the routine is the only reason it took us so long to write a review. If you are hesitating to book the Crater rim cabin, please, don't wait another second. We stayed here for 2 weeks in August and we are absolutely happy about our choice. Renting a jeep , we were able to go on adventures all over the island, while coming back at night to cook supper and enjoy the cabin. On the days we wanted to take it easy, we could spend some peaceful time in the charming garden. The Cabin is situated at an ideal location to visit the volcano park and close enough to the main road for easy access, while offering privacy and tranquility. It is exceptionally comfortable. Jim and Barry are as hospitable as could be, they provided us with everything we needed for a wonderful stay. There were many books and pamphlet available to read up and plan your vacation, and if you need advice, the hosts are more than happy to guide you. The nights do get a bit chilly outside, but all the comfort of a warm bed and the coziness of a gas fireplace will provide you with a restful atmosphere. Even now, we still feel like it was our home away from home, in this little paradise. We will always hold dear the memories have made there, if we can , we will definitely be back.

Excellent Accommodation
Don't hesitate to book a stay at this wonderful cottage! We stayed for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed it, the facility was very clean, comfortable, and full of charm. The host (Barry) who showed us around was very welcoming and informative, and clearly takes well-earned pride in the ownership and superior upkeep of the cottage. Next time we'll book a longer stay here, it is a very relaxing environment and just a stone's throw from the entrance to Volcano National Park which is home to the natural wonders of Kilauea. Many thanks to the owners!

The lush landscape was beautiful and the cabin was so comfortable and homey. The entire area is quiet and peaceful. An added bonus is Volcano Winery, about a mile away. Jim and Barry are amazing hosts. Would definitely stay here again!

The hosts thought of every detail! Property and cabin were charming and well-stocked. The hosts even stocked the kitchen with stables (milk, eggs, bread, condiments, etc.) which was a nice touch. They were available in case we had any questions but respected our privacy as well. We would definitely go back if we are in Volcano again.

Crater Rim - fantastic cabin
This is a lovely, spacious cabin in a beautiful setting. The proximity to Volcanoes National Park is very convenient for touring this part of the island. The cabin hosts are extremely gracious and helpful. Highly recommended.

Forget the hotels and resorts - stay at CRC!
This place is amazing - forget the resorts and hotels, visit this cabin to relax and recharge. We stayed 4 nights, which still wasn't enough - stay at least a week if you can! There is so much to do within a day's drive (as well as very close by), the hospitality of the owners is second to none, and the cabin is stocked with so many things to make your stay an experience you won't forget.

We arrived late but Barry and Jim left everything so we could find where to put our car and how to make use of the property. They offer a standalone cabin on their property. It's private, spacious, and comfortable. The cabin was spotlessly clean, the shower was hot, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook for ourselves including a lot of cooking staples and breakfast foods. One tip for travellers would be to stop in Kona or Hilo for groceries if that is your point of entry (groceries are available nearby but selection is poor and prices are high). Crater Rim Cabin has a great location, only a couple of minutes drive to the main entrance of the Volcano Nat'l Park visitors area. Recommended.

It's like staying in a bed and breakfast but without the quirky annoyances of a conventional B&B. Quiet, secluded, and private.

A secluded gem for a lovely off the beaten track experience!
Really a fabulous place. There are all kinds of lovely touches-- an abundance of towels, rain water showers, beautiful decoration, comfy chairs, a wood stove, a beautiful garden in the sun to eat breakfast, and delicious quiet that all makes for a wonderful time.
