Wasn't sure if a hostel was the safest way to go, never been to Guadalajara before. Man, I was so wrong. The hostel is one block away from the nicest strip in all the city. My favorite thing to do after a day of sight seeing is taking a stroll down Chapultepec Blvd and seeing the kids skateboarding, break dancing, street art, etc. Plenty of places to eat, from street taco stands to top notch restaurants.
The private room we booked was great, very spacious, clean, and as comfortable as any hotel room. It got loud a couple of nights due to beer pong events and the such, but we blocked it out and slept just fine. The staff is beyond helpful, and really go out of their way to help you out. We speak Spanish, but the staff we dealt with seemed to speak English fluently as well.
The only small issue I had was the water in our bathroom sink was not "sanitized", as so labeled. Not sure exactly what that meant (other than the obvious) but it smelled horrible. Don't know why that was, as every other bathroom had normal water. Would not use it for anything and brushed my teeth with bottled water; washed my hands in the shower. A bit of a nuance, it'd be great if they fixed that. I think our room #was 3.
