I stayed in Garden Cottage, which is next to the main house. It was very peaceful with a beautiful garden, where I enjoyed sitting in the sunshine. There's a feeling of history to the estate and I enjoyed reading about some of the previous occupants, such as the painter Joseph Farquharson. The cottage itself is tastefully decorated with period furniture but with the benefit of TV and wifi.
I could have happily stayed several more days and explored the area. Thanks also to Ann, who kept me updated with last-minute changes to road closures and saved me a detour.
