The staff were friendly and the hotel is well kept. It is situated on a hill and offers a quiet place to relax after a busy day. It is close to the Kennet and Avon canal, Sydney Gardens and it’s a pleasant walk into city along Great Pulteney Street and over Pulteney Bridge. Unlike most city centre hotels it does have a car park.

The bedroom furniture looks like it has been up cycled from a charity shop, the shower dripped all night, the enamel had gone on the bath leaving it dirty looking, we had £6 charge added to each order at the bar despite us going up to the bar ourselves and not getting any table service & and when ordering bar food we were asked to eat it outside of the bar for some reason and there was a charge for it, far from being a 5* hotel, a lovely building & surroundings but in need of a major overhaul, the service charges were certainly 5*

Overall the stay was good. FOOD Food was nice, STAFF friendly enough staff although slow at responding and serving reception. FACILITIES The outside pool needs love as a lot of tiles missing leading to being uncomfortable if rubbed against or sat on. Area around pool appears unsafe but don't worry they have put black and yellow tape over the uneven decking so I guess all is good. Not!!! CLEANLINESS Clean hotel and grounds Room Couldn't control heating/cooling settings and safe didn't work. Told staff at reception at the start of the stay and nothing was fixed. Only control of heating was opening a window which can be noisy at times from other guests

Lovely property with fab facilities and polite staff. Great location with only a 15 min walk to attractions in Bath. Level of cleanliness was less than expected of a 5* hotel. Communal areas were clean but often shabby, needing some new paint but rooms weren’t as clean as we’d have liked. Was clear they had just had a quick clean but skirting boards, back of toilet and bathroom corners were very dusty and hand-wash holder had lots of old hand-wash congealed on to it. Breakfast was nice but it was clear staff were stressed and people/items were forgotten for long periods of time and items like glasses, coffee pots and bowls weren’t always clean.

Beautiful stay in the heart of Bath. Never been to Bath so just stayed one night. Would definitely return and stay in the same hotel. Only issue was the cooked breakfast. Sausages and bacon was hard and difficult to chew.

This is not a 5 star Hotel the breakfast set up was a joke the staff were running around like headless chickens the food in 1st morning was Luke warm at best the coffee served was not drinkable and others were complaining the same ! the table set up was not good no sugar? Milk Salt Pepper mills not set out! toast machine inadequate for capacity of guests the spar area was not relaxing as on the day we attended local spa members apparently can bring in there children to use the facilities and they were left out of control and was not able to enjoy the use of the pool. The outdoor thermal spar bed was very scruffy large cracks around the perimeter and sharp edges of lots of missing mosaic tiles ? Had to wait around 15min at front desk to checkout as only 1 position open at 9am out of 4 and had to wait behind a guest before me complaining of much more than the above shame as it could be a lot better

Interesting, reasonably maintained, example of the Empires fading splendor built 1832. Definitely worth a visit for those interested in history.

Hotel itself OK, comfortable enough but needs refurb: dining room especially tired with worn out/aged chairs. But service was incredibly slow. Took forever to order coffees in lounge. About 40 mins later they arrived tepid at best despite the waitress saying be careful as they are hot! The manager was very sarcastic when he delivered replacements suggesting we “ask for scalding hot if you want it hot!!!” Food is quite nice, though I didn’t expect my Squid Ink Prawn Pasta to be the colour of tomato soup and not black! Tasted nice though! However we walked out of breakfast service on last morning having waited over 45 minutes for coffee (which we asked for twice) and not even placing breakfast order. Never received the coffee. Odd because everyone had to book a time for breakfast too, so it’s not like they were inundated with diners by surprise! When we checked out and asked for breakfast refund another couple who had experienced the same also complained, asked for breakfast refund and in fact cancelled their 2nd nights stay. Such a shame as could be a terrific hotel. Felt the staff were way over worked and very demoralised. It was very disappointing especially as it was for my 60th birthday treat. I wouldn’t stay at a MacDonalds again.

Lovely place
Slow check in with a wait for room even when we were not early. Staff were friendly and attentive and the place was clean and tidy. Lovely room and the spa was nice.

It was OK
The 2 days were in an upgraded room which was fine but the evening was spoilt by a total lack of interest from staff at the hotel to serve us any drinks. We sat in the bar with another couple bemused as staff came and went without talking to us at all. It left me ffeeling as though the hotel lacked the quality of service it appears to aspire to.

The surrounding area is lovely, but the properties not very well maintained. Lots of things didn’t work in the room as expected and when I called for maintenance they didn’t actually fix any of the problems. The food and drinks are high and pricing, but the service was not very good. The spa is about as good as a massage, envy, but at five star prices.

The pictures made the hotel look outstanding and luxurious. Unfortunately I would say it was from that. 1 - On check in we asked for toothbrush and paste (we were told on the hotel advert this would be available)- which we were told would be sent to our room. However they were not. And we had to ask reception again at a later time with a different receptionist and finally got them. 2 - On reaching our room we noticed the room was very different to the pictures advertised on the advert. The room was tired, old, dusty. the TV was very small and old. So old the remote still had teletext on it. The bathroom was mouldy, old and tired and in need of renovation. 3. We were given an accessibility room, meaning the bathroom had a lot of space take up to be used for wheelchair users. Me and my wife did not like this and asked to be moved. We were told this was not possible as no other rooms were available apart from a room with two single beds. We explained the images of the bathroom look nothing the images in the advert and again we were told someone would contact us to update us if this was possible, due to any cancellations. No one contacted us.. 4. The sheets were dirty on the bed, the pillow cases had dust, the sheets had stains and the bathroom and red marks all over it.. All in all it was so bad, my wife could not believe how much we spent.

Nice stay
Had a lovey time at MacDonald’s spa really lovey hotel staff are very friendly and polite, I would give 5* but very slow in bring drink that you’ve order and breakfast the buffet was good but the food needed to be hotter I do think this is a lack of staff

Overall good break Only downfall was zero communication prior to the trip as the reception phoneline was down for over 9 days. Difficulty in getting any info or messages to the reception desk. Being a 5 star I expected this issue to be sorted much quicker. Apart from that happy days.

The room itself is fine, but I encountered issues with the water temperature fluctuating in the shower. It's very difficult to control, especially during the winter season. Additionally, the location of the hotel is not very convenient for traveling in Bath, even if you have a car. (The center of Bath is always prone to traffic jams.) Overall, I believe the value of this selection is not good.
