Lovely Location and Host
A wonderful vacation. Very peaceful with beautiful views. Comfortable cabin with everything you might need. The host is very friendly and extremely helpful. Located within a community of outgoing and kind people. Highly recommend it.

Blessings Abound!
A fabulous getaway! Beautiful property, only minutes away from amazing hikes along cascading waterfalls. The host is wonderful and the cabin was clean and comfortable! I loved sitting out on the covered deck observing the beauty of green rolling hills, tulip poplar trees, indigo buntings, scarlet tanagers and sunsets over the smokies!

Perfect for my needs
Great little place. I came to mountain bike and it was close to trails and town. Place was clean and had everything you needed. Owner was great to work with and very helpful. The dog had a great field to walk in and enjoy.

Great place to stay.
Location is great! Close wnough to the city that everything is accessible, far enough away that is nice and quiet. Closest trailhead is 6min away and beautiful. The owner is great and very open. Made it nice and easy communicating with him, and helped out when a stray wounded dog showed up.

What a nice surprise
We were meeting our grandchildren and daughter for a small spring break in the Smoky Mountains. The spot was a perfect spot to enjoy Bryce City and the Smoky Mountain National Park. We had a blast! The dogs loved the yard. My Granddaughter and I loved the two porches. Her favorite porch was off her bedroom my favorite was the entryway covered porch. The beds were comfortable and linens were amply supplied. Wifi was great. Thanks Mike we appreciated everything.

Alarka Cabin
Cabin was just as described. The host cleaned the cabin after the previous guests left and allowed us to check in early. The property is pet friendly and has enough space for dogs to run. Host was very accommodating and pleasant. Will definitely be going back

A little piece of Heaven
This is my third time staying here. It is cozy and so quiet and peaceful, with lovely sunset views and the sounds of the creek. You also get to talk with Mike and see his sweet dog. Mike is an awesome host and just a really nice person. Highly recommend.

I stayed here with my mother and dog in October and was absolutely wonderful. Lovely little property and fully equipped. Property owner was friendly and accommodating even with our grumpy older dog. Would definitely stay here again.

Cozy Cabin with Friendly Host
We enjoyed our time here. The place was cozy, warm and had all the amenities to make our stay great. The mattresses were comfortable and the bedding was perfect. I was especially happy that it was so kid and dog friendly. When I went around to make sure all dangerous cleaning products were out of harms way, they sure were. It felt great to be able to relax in a place away from home. The layout was nice with the bedrooms side by side, in the back of the cabin. The rental was well equipped. The host, Michael was kind and helpful. His dog, Ebola was a sweetheart. I highly recommend this laid back, cozy cabin to anyone visiting the area. Great experience here!

Eclectic and unique mountain getaway
My wife and I stayed for one night after thanksgiving on our way back to Birmingham and we had a great experience here. We met the owner Mike who was friendly and accessible but also gave us privacy. The area is very special. In the morning we sat on the sturdy porch and watched the sunrise in the mountains, drinking coffee. Cell service, thankfully, is non existent, but the WiFi worked perfectly. And after a day of tromping around in the national forest and fly casting to brown trout we relaxed inside and watched a movie on Netflix. We appreciated the rustic quality of it; it is an apartment above a barn. But it is well cared for and comfortable. We plan on returning and staying for longer as it was all in all a very peaceful place to retreat to, and we want to explore more of the mountain streams around Alarka

Sorry the rental did not meet your expectations. I personally clean the rental and regularly deep clean the carpet and furniture as I have a cleaner for both. I am proud of the job I do and get very positive feedback from virtually all of my guests for the job I do. As for the view, The trees on the property below mine have grown since the photo and guests are welcome to come spend time on my porch for a better view. I also take renters out for drives and hikes to see spectacular views. If any renter has any issues with the rental I make sure to request that they please let me know while they are here and I will make sure to take care of them.

Sweet Barn Cabin
Cute barn cabin with awesome views and hospitality. This cabin is smaller than we are used to but clean and accommodating. Has everything you need. We brought our two dogs with us, we hate leaving them home: We came to visit the GSMR! Great location, close to all, pet friendly and would definitely stay here again! ♥️

Michael is a fab host and Enola is a sweet pooch to have around. The accommodations were as described...and the area is a fun place to stay to enjoy mountain life quiet, great scenery, with plenty of attractions/areas of interest to keep us moving exploring.

Great get away
Michael, our host was amazing. The location of this place was amazing. When we arrived we just took it all in. We met Michael after we arrived and he shared his background of the property. He was such a joy to talk to. Our barn/cabin had everything needed and then some. I would recommend this place to everyone. The weather was perfect and we were able to sleep with the windows open. Our evening there we sat on the covered porch on the porch swing and just lived in the moment. So peaceful and quiet. Hopefully we can return someday.

This property is a converted barn that is really comfortable to stay in. It's in a rural area but just a 2 mile drive into town. The owners have put a lot of thought into providing anything of the little things that you might need. The internet reception is very good. Communication was great, I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice quiet area, was up in the mountains. Michael was very nice and i truely enjoyed talking with him. I loved just sitting out on the porch watching the beautiful humming birds fly. The only downfall was the full size bed i felt like i was laying at a slant. We really enjoyed our stay...

The family really enjoyed our time at Michael's place. We especially loved the sunsets, Michael's pup, hummingbirds, and playing board games on the deck. The place was extremely clean and accommodating. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Incredible week in the Great Smoky Mountains
The reviews are spot on. Mike is an incredible host and super helpful suggesting great hikes and things to do in the Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas. We went horseback riding, saw black bears, went on amazing waterfall hikes, and discovered beautiful spring wildflowers everywhere. Definitely a trip to remember!

Beautiful relaxing weekend in the North Carolina Mountains
We had a very relaxing weekend here. The view from the porch is absolutely breathtaking. Grill some burgers and sit on the porch and watch the sunset. The host Michael is very nice. My husband took full advantage of the excellent fishing here. That made him very happy! After a fun-filled day the bed was so comfortable we did not want to get out of it. We will be returning to enjoy this quaint little cottage.

This Christmas holiday has been the coldest but Michael made our time in his cabin a very warm an enjoyable time. The fact of him being on site really made a difference in not having any problems due to below freezing temperatures. Thanks Michael!!!!

Couldn’t have been better!
Our stay with Michael near Bryson City was everything we hoped for. The remodeled barn was warm and cozy even with the exceptionally cold weather. Michael gave us great directions to his place and always kept the lights on for us so we could easily find the rental when we inevitably made our way home in the dark after a day of exploring. We liked being a little remote in such a beautiful setting, but within a short drive to town, Smokey Mountains NP or many of the natural wonders of the area. Michael was a fantastic host, super helpful without being intrusive. He went out of his way to guide us to Alarka Falls just a few miles away, what a treat! He also graciously lent our daughter one of his mountain bikes when hers malfunctioned and guided her on some local challenging trails. She loved it! In the meanwhile, my husband and I explored the NOC and hiked a little section of the AP Trail at his suggestion. A visit to a local brewery and then some of Michael’s fantastic homemade pizza and a euchre tournament back at the rental rounded out a wonderful day! We especially enjoyed being enthusiastically greeted by his 4 legged pal, Inola, when we came home. She was also a lovely hiking companion! The only thing wrong with our stay was that we didn’t book nearly enough days! Hopefully we can come back and remedy that!

This is our third year visiting. As always Michael is a great host, and the property is clean and well kept. The area has plenty of activities to partake and good dining, but is also a great quiet, private area to just retreat. Pet friendly. Recommended!

The Shanty
