Bad experience

We arrived early aprox 9AM and the place was closed. It said that was open 24 hrs a day, but we waited until 11AM and nobody showed. At 11AM was check-out time, but still there was no one to be seen. One person was cleaning the bar, and we knocked on the window but did not answer. We had to go and get a room somewhere else. I would not recommend this place. It is not a true hotel or B&B. We stopped in the afternoon telling them of our cancellation and asking for our money back, but they said they will not return the money. Reinaldo

Cuando llegamos no habia nadie para recibirnos con lo cual no pudimos disfrutar de nuestra reserva en el hotel y nos tuvimos que buscar otro para alojarnos.

Muy buena opción en el centro de la ciudad.

Es un hostal muy bien ubicado en el centro de la ciudad, el desayuno incluido es de muy buena calidad y muy completo con la libertad de escogerlo del menu con menus muy típicos ingleses, el servicio es excelente y muy cordial. La seguridad es muy buena y pasan todas las lineas de autobuses para recorrer la ciudad. A solo unos minutos caminando se encuentra el centro historico y la zona de los Colegios donde se puede hacer el paseo en las balsas tipo gondolas o "punting", la ubicación es muy buena, hay bancos y restaurantes en frente del Hotel. En la parte baja es un Pub o un Restaurant y en la parte de arriba se encuentran las habitaciones con una sala de baño para 3 habitaciones muy limpias. Me tocaron huespedes de varias partes del mundo y un ambiente muy agradable.

Read other reviews. I do not regret staying here, but I wouldn't recommend it either. It is a bare bones room. We stayed 3 days and I liked it better over time. Good location. Easy keypad access to the building and you don't have to go through the bar to get to your room. We came in Saturday afternoon and checked in at a bar filled with drunken college students. The family with small child waiting before us looked very unhappy to be there. You go upstairs through a labyrinth of fire doors - seriously I've never seen anything like it. The rugs are very worn and stained. I was worried we wouldn't find our way out or back in. Our room had a nice bright duvet, broad windows, and nothing but a bed, small table with tv, and some kind of blocky thing I am not sure what it was. No chair. Rugs were stained - I looked for bugs. But the place was quite meticulously clean and freshly painted, as were the halls. We were on the top floor so there was noise outside and downstairs, but not particularly in our room. The bathroom was a floor down, spotlessly clean, and we literally never saw anyone else there except the person cleaning. The owner was helpful. It's a crash pad. I've stayed in worse. And many many better.

Wir waren zu dritt zu einem Konzert angereist, das in unmittelbarer Nähe stattfand. Man befindet sich mitten im Zentrum. Bahnhof zu Fuß = 20 Min. Als ich mich fragte, ob es im Hotel Handtücher gäbe (ja!), stieß ich im Netz auf Beurteilungen, die "ungenügend" waren, also eine glatte sechs. Kritik: Kein Frühstück und viel zu laut. Ja, es gab auch für uns kein Frühstück, was wir aber ohnehin dort nicht eingeplant hatten. Es gibt unzählige Cafés (u.a. auch Starbucks) in der Nachbarschaft, allesamt zu Fuß gut zu erreichen. Auch ein Supermarkt gegenüber hat genügend frische Backwaren. Zur Lautstärke ist es so, dass das wirklich ein Punkt sein kann. Wer empfindlich ist, der sollte hier nicht nächtigen. Zum einen ist es am Wochenende aufgrund der Musik in der Bar im Erdgeschoss bis spät in die Nacht laut, zum anderen ist es auf der Straße laut, insbesondere, wenn man bei offenenem Fenster schläft. Die zwei Toiletten befinden sich im Flur, sind sauber und werden täglich gereinigt. Im oberen Geschoss befindet sich die Dusche intergriert in einer Badewanne, im unteren Geschoss ist es eine normale Dusche. Handseife steht zur Verfügung, genauso wie ein Duftspray. Für den Zugang zu seinem Zimmer bekommt man einen Schlüssel, für das Hotel einen Zugangscode. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Es gab weder Kleiderbügel noch irgendwelche Haken im Zimmer. Wir waren dennoch voll zufrieden und würden wieder ins The Castle gehen. Famillien und empfindliche Menschen sollten etwas anderes auswählen.

Improve access to attendants!

We were unable to get ahold of the hotel attendant to check in, perhaps a USA phone problem. Perhaps informing connecting via WhatsApp. The construction was loud. There was no sheet on the beds and the pillows were small. The communal bathroom worked out just fine though.

Concert Stay.

On the positive side, great location: about 1min from the park and ride bus stop, about 5 mins walk from the Corn Exchange venue. Super friendly and helpful staff. In the negative side: ultra basic accommodation and very noisy from the bar downstairs, until the early hours.

This is a very very basic hotel. Quite literally a place to rest your head in central Cambridge. At £100 per night it is not cheap. The sheets of my bed were not clean and the curtains did not cover enough of the window to block out the sunlight. That being said, the room itself was not horrendous and the shared bathroom was not revolting. Overall I think it was expensive for what you get but not the worst travelling experience of my life.

The location is excellent. The room is clean and staff are helpful. However, avoid booking on Fridays and Saturdays if you want to sleep at night. The bar plays very loud music 'til 3am and it's impossible to sleep.

Give it a miss

As all the other reviews, this is just a room over a bar, shared bathrooms and no breakfast. I was aware of this (and that it’s way overpriced), but there’s also no one around in the bar in the morning in case anything goes wrong. I forgot to take my room key to the bathroom with me, and was locked out my room from 4am to midday, which was when someone appeared in the bar downstairs. I was then informed I had missed the checkout time. Really wished I had booked somewhere else.

You're above a pub, but right in the city centre, for real cheap. It's highly convenient, clean bathrooms and bedding, but be warned, it's above a pub. Its a bit noisy until late, but that's expected. Can't complain really. We left some headphones and keys behind but they were very kind to ship them back for us! Would recommend if you're in for a couple of nights and just need a bed. Gud price

Terrible!

This is not as advertised at all, you literally get just a room with a tv in it. No amenities at all. The room was dirty, smelled like urine, one window was broken, the door didnt lock, one of the beds was broken. And the bathroom was a floor down, which wasn't very clean either. We did not end up staying as felt unsafe!

Someone tried to break into my room. Brakes brothers lorry parked outside with its engine on from 4 am Taps all on a timer so 15 secs is not long enough. Very expensive for shared toilet and shower

Clean and tidy. It was as shown on description: upstairs with 2 twin beds and a full size bed. The bathroom was shared and clean. The location was amazing -- thumbs up --and it made it easier to go and get around Cambridge. Being in City Center becomes noisy in the evening. This was a short and brief stay on our way to mainland Europe to catch an early flight out of London. I would stay again. Thanks for lettings us unload our luggage prior to check-in time.
