Gorgeous place with museum quality furnishings, appointments and atmosphere. Think Casa Santo Domingo in Antigua ... not quite so over-the-top, but on the spectrum, and much more intimate and much cheaper. I prefer the atmosphere here to the more famous Hotel S. Tomas in Chichi, and better location. Working fireplaces in the room. A first for all the hotels I have ever stayed in for my entire life. What a touch! and the wood they supply burns slow and hot. (If you don't know what you are doing starting a fire, ask the staff to do it). Ask the staff to make sure you are supplied with both wood and fat wood (fire starter).
Issues:
1. Dribbly shower in our room. Functional, but not for the person looking to languish for 20 minutes (tub would be fine for that)
2. one of our party had room on the street ... woken by Guate traffic coming up hill of 8a Calle 20 min before dawn every morning. Ask for inner courtyard room.
3. when market open access to hotel thru back streets in a rental car is a challenge, even with waze. might be possible to get someone from hotel to meet and guide u in (but we made it with an adventure).
