Les photos sont la réalité!
Un logement en tout point exemplaire, une vue magnifique et des hôtes très prévenants sans être omniprésents (bien que sur place). Katie et Chris ont repondu a nos demandes soit directement soit par messagerie en quelques minutes à chaque fois. Le seul petit bémol ne vient pas de l'habitation mais de l'île elle-même (et comme beaucoup d'îles que nous avons faîtes), ce sont les distances a parcourir avec une vitesse limitée et des petites routes (mis a part la route nommée "90", la seule nationale de l'île). Pour la location par contre rien a dire c'est le top!

Comme vous le dites, l'île est très grande et il y a beaucoup à voir, mais comme vous l'avez constaté, nous sommes situés à proximité de la route nationale, il est donc plus facile de l'explorer depuis notre emplacement.

Peace & tranquility
This place isn’t for everyone, which doesn’t mean I’m putting this place down, quite the opposite. If you love animals, especially cats, then come here (if you don’t like cats then don’t visit Greece!). If you love to be off the beaten track, but still close enough to not be totally cut off, then come here. If you want the option of being left to your own devices and I mean totally, no room service, no towel changes while you nap etc come here. We enjoyed the solitude, no noises bars, the long walks through rural villages, the peace and quiet (apart from the dogs, birds, goats etc) the lovely local villages with great Tavernas and warm welcomes. Yes this suited us perfectly and we are looking at returning soon, and WE NEVER do that to any place that we’ve visited before !

Paradies für Mensch und Miezen
Super schönes Haus mit tollem Pool. Kathy und Chris sind liebevolle und aufmerksame Gastgeber. Man sollte Katzen lieben, so wie eigentlich überall in Griechenland. Besonders aber dort. Wir haben neben Kathy und Chris auch alle anderen Bewohner wie Alfi, Dave, Arthur, Chlotilde und besonders Minnie ins Herz geschlossen. Gerne kommen wir wieder.

Entspannung pur
Wir (Ehepaar Mitte 50) haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und die Ruhe im House of the sun tat uns sehr gut. Die Unterkunft (Wohnung und rund ums Haus sowie der Pool waren einzigartig. Kathie uns Chris waren sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Der Hauskater Alfi hat uns viele Schmunzelmomente beschert.

Ein wunderschöner Urlaub auf Kreta
Tolle Ferienwohnung mit allem eingerichtet was man im Urlaub braucht. Wunderschöne Anlage mit Pool. Sehr schöne Aussicht über das Tal. Tavernen und Supermarkt in 5 Min mit dem Auto oder in 25 Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die Vermieter sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit halten sich aber sehr im Hintergrund. Ausgangspunkt für Wanderungen. Wir werden wiederkommen

Just returned from a lovely holiday. What a great rural location with beautiful views but just a 10/15 min drive to the beach and shops. Picturesque pool/gardens and Kathie + Chris are knowledgeable and lovely hosts.

Super séjour
Nous avons passé, avec mes deux enfants, un très bon séjour. Idéalement placé entre La Cannée et Rethymnon, nous avons pu visiter la région et profiter d’une très belle piscine. Kathie et Crhis ont été « aux petits soins » pour nous. Location fonctionnelle et très propre qui disposent de tout le nécessaire pour passer de bonnes vacances. Je recommande fortement.

What a find!
We have just returned home after spending a fantastic, relaxing, 2 weeks with Kathie and Chris at The House in the sun. It really couldn't have been any better. Communication before our trip was spot on with extremely easy directions with pictures sent that made finding the apartment very easy. We arrived in the early hours and were welcomed by Alfie the cat who kept us company for our holiday. Fantastically well equipped, spotless apartment. Fantastic sitting area with amazing views and the pool!… we spent a lot more time at the pool then we have done on any other holiday as we found it so relaxing. There is a great little village about 5 mins away with a well stocked shop, a great coffee place that do delicious cakes, a gyros shop and a lovely taverna serving amazing food. Lots of beach choices can be found without having to venture too far from base. Kathie and Chris are the perfect hosts with loads of advice available & laughs. We were even treated to a some quiet background music one day while they rehearsed for a gig they had locally that week. Would absolutely not hesitate to recommend the house in the sun to everyone and have already given all the details to a lot of our friends and family. Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday in Crete xxx Alison and Paul xxx

As expected and more
For our trip in Crete we were looking for an easily accessible and central location in the countryside. What is great about the House in the sun is that even if you live among olive, orange and lemon trees, sheeps and goats and enjoy long walks from village to village in a rural environment, you are relatively close to everything by car. The appartement has met our expectations. It was perfect for 2 and had everything you need. Because we travelled early May, we did not use the pool, but we have enjoyed spending time on the private terrace which offers a gorgeous view of the surroundings. Our hosts were also great to interact with and very helpful. And the cats,…we fell in love with them. We highly recommand this place.

Relaxen en zwemmen in een adembenemend uitzicht.
Als je op zoek bent, naar een verblijf voor twee om tot rust te komen, ben je hier aan het juiste adres. Het uitzicht is prachtiger dan op de foto. De architectuur van het zwembad betoverend. Het water van het zwembad zeer verkwikkend op warme dagen zonder chloor, wat wij ten zeerste waarderen voor de gezondheid van je huid. Het appartement was zeer proper en functioneel. Chris en Kathie zijn zeer gastvrij. Ze geven je informatie voor leuke uitstapjes en tips van goede restaurants . We kregen ook een welkomstpakket voeding. We genoten enorm en we komen zeker en vast nog eens terug. B

Traumhafte Ferienwohnung!
Wir hatten eine traumhafte Zeit in dieser wunderschönen Ferienwohnung! Man hat einen einzigartigen Blick, der an die Toskana erinnert. Die Unterkunft bietet alles was man braucht und auch in dem Bett haben wir gut geschlafen. Kathie und Chris sind wunderbar! Freundliche Vermieter und sehr schöne Lage
Die Lage ist traumhaft und ruhig. Ein sehr kleines Dörfchen. Alles was man braucht ist in der Nähe, Mini-Supermarkt, Taverne, Apotheke und Tankstelle. Zu Fuß 30 Minuten (schöner Abendspaziergang), mit dem Auto 5 Minuten zu erreichen. Auf dem Weg kann man Dorfleben beobachten und schöne Orangen-, Zitronen- und Olivenbäume betrachten. Kathie und Chris sind sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. Leider funktionierte in unserer Aufenthaltsdauer die Klimaanlage nicht. Ansonsten haben wir unsere Zeit bei Kathie und Chris sehr genossen. Vielen lieben Dank nochmal.

Ah thank you Marina for you kind comments. Our current system is an eco friendly heat pump which can blow hot or cold, which does work, but it’s not as cold as a dedicated Aircon system. However we have taken your comments on board and as we discussed with you, we are having a new Aircon unit installed for the apartment at the end of the month. Grossartige Ferienwohnung
Wer dem üblichen Toristentrubel entfliehen will, ist hier genau richtig: ein schönes Appartement in einem unscheinbaren Bergdorf, überaus nette Gastgeber, eine gut - aber nicht luxuriös - ausgestattete Einrichtung, ein attraktiver Pool und die Möglichkeit, schnell an die Strände der Nord- und Südküste zu kommen. Einen Mietwagen sollte man aber in jedem Fall haben.

Erholsamer Urlaub in einer wunderschönen Ferienwohnung
Die Unterkunft ist ein absoluter Traum. Die Küche ist voll ausgestattet, alles ist sehr sauber und liebevoll eingerichtet. Das Doppelbett ist ein bisschen klein, jedoch haben wir auf Nachfrage ein Zustellbett bekommen. Die Vermieter sind sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich, ziehen sich zurück, wenn man ungestört sein möchte, sind aber auch offen für alle Anliegen, die man hat. Die Wohnung ist fern ab vom Tourismus, man fährt ca. 20 Minuten zum nächsten Strand oder in eine kleine Stadt, für uns genau das richtige. Dank privatem Pool waren auch die Temperaturen auszuhalten. Fazit: wunderbar!

Wonderful apartment in a quiet location with a sublime view
We (young family of 3 with a 7 month old baby) had a fabulous 2 week holiday at the beginning of June this year. Kathy and Chris are the perfect hosts, very attentive and keen to make sure you have a great stay. Both the apartment and magnificent terrace with its views were at least as nice as we had expected from the fotographs. The pool, which you share only with the hosts occasionally and which is cleaned daily by Chris, is sublime. Although you need a rental car to get to beaches, shops and restaurants easily, it is nice to get away from the crowds and chill with a fantastic view on the terrace in the evenings. Overall we highly recommend a stay at this place and hope to return ourselves in the future!

Stunning views from the terrace of this beautifully located home from home. House in the sun has everything you need for an easy, relaxing, or energetic visit! (Photo’s don’t do this place justice) Many many places to visit in the area via car, plus beautiful walks around the area. Kathie and Chris are the perfect hosts, full of information, and go above and beyond to be sure you have everything you need to ensure your holiday is perfect. We’ll be back!

Excellent séjour avec des hôtes de qualité!
Idyllique! Katie et Chris aux petits soins mais tout en discrétion, appartement propre, bien fourni, spacieux et très agréable. Ne parlons pas de la terrasse privative avec vue dégagée sur les montagnes, et de la magnifique piscine "partagée" avec les propriétaires, que nous avons utilisé seuls et à volonté. La situation géographique est excellente entre La Canée et Rethymno. Voiture nécessaire

Kathy & Chris where what we would say the perfect hosts. I remembered at our arrival how Kathy said ‘we will be as present or absent as you guys wish’ ... and this rolled out perfectly, we enjoyed our privacy as much as we enjoyed the help and some talks with our host ... although little help was needed, everything was A-ok. The pool area and the privacy and comfort of our apartment were perfect. We used the place as an ideal homebase to discover the West of Crete ... but also for couples, families with small children that look for quietness in a peaceful and relaxing environment around the pool ... this is the perfect place. beautiful apartment with stunning views over open countryside and towards the mountains. Within 3 or 4 minutes drive from a variety of tavernas. Hosts Kathie and Chris couldn't do enough for us, a fantastic chilled out holiday !!!

Tranquillity
Warm and friendly greeting on arrival whilst adhering to hygiene measures in place ( most comforting ). Chris showed us round the property and left us to unpack at our leisure. We then sat and ate a light meal rustled up from groceries provided by prior arrangement with Kathie and Chris, which was very much appreciated as we had a very long day. The following morning we took in our vista from the terrace and were just in awe of the lovely property and the views. Our hosts were very welcoming, knowledgable and attentive whilst not being obtrusive. We felt very much at ease at the house in the sun, so much so that on a few days we felt no need to stray from the property as it had everything we needed to be able to sit and relax and enjoy the warmth of the Cretan sun and the beautiful surroundings of this idyllic property. We met as guests and hopefully left as friends and we can’t wait to return. We would highly recommend this property if you’re looking to get away from all the hubbub of city or even town life and just want to chill.

A great stay
We visited Crete in October and stayed in the House in the Sun for almost two weeks. The view of the mountains was amazing, the house itself was very clean, perfectly equipped and the patio was perfect for reading a book, enjoying the view and bathing in the sun. Chania and Rethymno are close by (approx. 30-40 minutes by car), but the narrow roads up to the house leave the touristic crowds perfectly behind. The hosts, Kathy and Chris, gave us a very warm welcome and were always accessible in case of questions. They have a great eye for detail and, thus, the garden with its beautiful flowers, the (almost finished) pool and the decoration of the interior of the house perfectly fit together, leaving a feeling of being home... We had a great and relaxing time and would be happy to come back next year, if possible. Thanks!

Wonderful stay!
The House in the Sun is a delight! A very comfortable and spacious apartment for 2 with everything you need (and more) provided. It was spotlessly clean, very nicely decorated and proportioned. Extra touches, like providing beach towels, very welcome especially as I forgot to bring any. Kathie and Chris are lovely hosts and very generous. The apartment is well placed for the beaches of northern Crete and for Chania and Rethimno, and enjoys a very tranquil position with beautiful views. Highly recommend a stay here, and will definitely return.

Excelent !
Nous avons passé 11 jours dans cette location, et nous n'avons en rien été déçu. La vue est magnifique, les propriétaires très charmants, l'appartement très bien équipé, et les alentours sont parfaits pour se promener et cueillir des excellents fruits frais. Bref, rien ne nous a déçu. PS: on a vu l'état d'avancement de la construction de la piscine, elle risque d'être magnifique !

L'appartement est très confortable et on y trouve tout le nécessaire et plus. Un accueil très chaleureux et des hôtes discrets mais disponibles et de très bon conseil. La vue est époustouflante et on ne s'en lasse jamais. Au calme , loin de la foule mais proche de tous les lieux touristiques de l'Ouest de l'île. Bref un lieu magique à conseiller sans restriction. Nous aurions aimé être bilingues pour converser encore plus avec Kathie et Chrys. Merci à eux.

The apartment was exactly as shown in the photographs which is not always the case! It was extremely clean and was well equipped. The situation was idyllic, surrounded by olive, lemon and orange trees and provided the perfect chance for rest but within easy reach of Chania, beaches and good food. The owners, who live on the upper floor of the house, were very welcoming and it was fun to meet and get to know them. They were never intrusive though. This was our first visit to Crete and I hope it won’t be our last.

Fabulous views and comfortable stay
We stayed here for five days and the view was always compelling; wild flowers, snow covered mountains. The apartment was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The log burner was great with the cooler evenings. Kathie and Chris were knowledgeable and helpful. The apartment is well situated for visiting other places such as Chania which we loved.

Beautiful views, hospitable hosts, comfortable and well equipped accommodation
We had a wonderful week staying in the House in the Sun. Kathy and Chris made us feel at home the moment we arrived. The flat is well equipped and really well planned. There were many thoughtful additions such as the welcome basket and beach towels. We really didn't want for anything. We were woken by the tinkling bells around the necks of the next door sheep and a wonderful sunrise every day. The view across the valley is full of all that Crete has in abundance, olives, figs, walnuts and showed us the path to walk to the next village where we came across a newly painted church to St Anthony. The local taverna is well worth a visit. The owners are helpful and the food is honest and very local. Vryses, the nearest town, is a very traditional town which has several small supermarkets and tavernas. Every day we did a trip in our hired car. We visited Chania and Rethymno, two towns with Venetian harbours, which are really attractive. The harbour in Chania was home to a very large turtle, which obliged us by doing a 'belly roll' and waving his flippers. We also visited Hora Sfakion, which involved a breathtaking drive over the mountains. We saw Griffon Vultures circling overhead and mountain goats perched on tiny ledges along the way. The harbour is where you can take a boat along the coast to secluded beaches - we chose lunch overlooking the sea and enjoyed every mouthful. We would recommend the accommodation and location without hesitation. Joan and Julian

A real find!
A beautiful and thoughtfully equipped apartment in a fabulous location with stunning views over the countryside. Kathie & Chris are excellent hosts who’ve spared no detail in providing every essential, and more, for the visitors to their holiday retreat. We came to Crete for a relax and collapse from our busy lives and found the perfect haven - we really loved it. We shall certainly return and whole heartedly recommend The House in the Sun to anyone looking for an escape from the crowds and hurly burly of the resort areas.

The House in the Sun - a real gem
The House in the Sun is a truly lovely place to stay....a real gem. The apartment is beautifully spacious and has been generously furnished and equipped to a very high standard, we wanted for nothing.We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the big views which subtly changed with the weather. Chris and Kathie are the perfect hosts - thoughtful and kind, nothing was too much trouble. We would not hesitate in recommending this property ...it is just lovely.

There are many reasons to choose this place for a stay on Crete! *The hospitallity of Chris and Cathy. We had really nice talks, they took good care. Perfect! *The apartment is also perfect. Everything you need is there. It's clean and practical, but also tastfully furnished and decorated. *We enjoyed the magnificent view: the olivetreecovered hills nearby and overlook of beautiful colouring mountains at sunset, all the way to the Ida in the distance. *The apartment is situated just outside a little village, but within 20 minutes you are at the beach of Kalyves. Also Chania, Rethymnon is nearby and a lot of other places (Aptera!) of intrest.....You can also make beautiful walks from here.... Chris and Cathy: thanks a lot! You have a beautiful place: like paradise!

Great mountain views in lovely apartment
Had a lovely holiday in this apartment. Very comfortable and hosts Kathie and Chris went out of their way to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. They supplied all the little touches that made it easy to feel at home straight away. We loved the situation away from the busyness of the town but within a short drive to the beach. We had some great walks in the surrounding countryside.

Très belle résidence. Vue magnifique. Accueil très chaleureux.
Kathie et Chris sont des hôtes vraiment charmants et très chaleureux, à l'écoute de nos besoins. Leurs indications pour accéder à l'appartement sont précises et claires.Le tarif est très concurrentiel. L'appartement, située au rez de chaussée de leur maison bénéficie d'une vue à couper le souffle ( au loin le mont Psiloritis, sommet de la Crète). L'appartement est très joliment décoré et bien équipé avec une grande terrasse et une pergola équipée de mobilier de jardin. Il n'y fait pas trop chaud en été grâce aux murs épais en pierre de taille. Pour rejoindre la plage de Kalyves il faut seulement 15 minutes en voiture.Nous avons fait de belles randonnées (outre les gorges de Samaria bien sûr): Chris nous a même emmenés au départ des gorges de Diktamos. Et que dire de leurs talents de musiciens!! Nous recommandons fortement cette location (L'an prochain avec piscine!), vous ne pourrez pas être déçus! Cécile et Jean-Louis Juillet 2017

We recently had a 2 month stay in this apartment. Kathy and Chris could not have been more friendly or helpful what wonderful hosts. We found the apartment very clean and comfortable, especiallly the sofa and the bed and the kitchen was a bonus as we like to self cater as well as eat out. The position of the apartment afforded wonderful views of the mountains and the valley and beautiful sunrises. It was very convenient for shops, tavernas and beaches. The local taverna next to the pharmacy in Agio Pantes served excellent fresh food just 5 minute drive. Would recommend the apartment for a short or long stay holiday.

Spacious and comfortable apartment in a rural idyllic setting
This was our first visit to Crete and we were blown away. The apartment is on the edge of a small rural village in the very green foothills of the white mountains, which still had snowy caps on when we visited. We didn't realise what a beautiful and green area Paidochori is in. The apartment is open plan living with lots of room. The bed was very comfortable and in a recessed alcove. The décor was stylish and the whole place spotlessly clean. The kitchen is well equipped, although we only prepared simple meals as the food in the restaurants we visited was delicious, plentiful and very well priced. So only breakfast and a little supper at base for us! The patio outside of the apartment is superb. There is a shaded pergola with comfy furniture beneath and loungers provided. This is for the guests sole use and we loved sitting out at breakfast and in the evenings, watching the birds flit about and the light change on the olive groves and flora in the area. The area is very peaceful (not for party animals) with bird song, goats bleating and the odd tractor passing by. This is an ideal de-stress apartment. The nearest taverna and supermarket are a 5 minute drive (or 20min walk but it was unseasonally hot when we were there and so used the car) away and both were very good. Supermarket well stocked and taverna very good food, really economical and very friendly people. We shopped at the larger supermarket in Kalyves on the way over on the first day, and this is very well stocked. Kathie and Chris supplied directions for this which were great. The sea is about 15-20mins away in the car depending on where you go to, and there is plenty of choice. The main highway is also 5 mins from the apartment so getting around the island from here was really easy, and we visited some fab places, but you can also walk in the countryside right from the doorstep and find some lovely little villages and interesting churches and viewpoints. Kathie and Chris, the owners, live upstairs and we found them to be very welcoming, friendly and helpful. They helped us out with suggestions for things to do, supplying bits we needed during our stay and great taverna recommendations. The seafood restaurant in Almyrida was great! We also had a couple of lovely evenings in their company, on the patio drinking wine and putting the world to rights. A huge thanks to them for allowing us to share their little corner of Crete. We will definitely return!
