Let's start with the good.
This place is in a great spot for skiing Mammoth, especially in large storm situations. There's a shuttle stop right out front and if forced to walk, you can make the trek downhill to the Village to catch the gondola rather than slogging the fairly long uphill trek to Canyon Lodge. Better yet, we were there in a 4 foot dump and the snow removal service for the parking lot was prompt and thorough.
The inside of the unit is quite comfortable...we really liked the layout and bright living area, leather furniture and large kitchen island and table for our group of 4 guys in our late 50's to early 60's.
Given the large price increases seen in Mammoth over the past few years, it's hard to find a true 3 bedroom with 4 beds at a reasonable price. Many are loft situations with bunk beds, etc. This one really fit the bill for our group of 4 adults.
Now the not so good...
Prior to our long drive north from San Diego, we could not reach the property manager for basic check-in details like unit number and door code. We had to reach out to VRBO who did a great job tracking him (Blake) down and he called me on my mobile just as we were leaving my driveway.
Given the previous "Stay Away" review posted after we were our point of cancellation, I expressed my concerns about whether the unit would truly ready for us when we arrived. I must say that it was clean and well stocked, so that was a relief!
However...our first night we ended up figuring out that the upstairs electric heating system was completely inoperable. There were some quite confusing instructions about the many thermostats upstairs that didn't seem to control anything, but fortunately the wood pellet stove ended up being more than adequate to warm both the main living area and the upstairs bedroom (with door open). Before venturing out in the blizzard to get enough extra pellets for our entire stay, we reached out Blake to inform him of our issue but he left us in silence. Hopefully the electric heating will be repaired and the instructions reviewed.
Also, there is a community room and spa directly across from this unit, but the spa was green and cloudy so we decided not to use it.
Finally, freezer door pops open when you close refrigerator...so be careful or you'll end up with some water on the floor.
Bottom line, we enjoyed our stay and figured things out, but needs a bit more attention to deserve 4 or 5 stars.
