Very cute, but the stairs...
This was a cute cabin, and it served my need to hide for a few days and check out of daily life. The 4 days I was there were rainy, so I didn't get to use the patio, but it was there and had a grill & patio furniture, as advertised. In fact, it was all as advertised & I enjoyed staying there. The bed was very comfortable, with a separate TV in the bedroom. The stairs were a challenge. Let me preface this by explaining that I'm quite short. The stairs were steep, but that wasn't the issue. I had actual problems lifting my short legs high enough to get to the next step. (Honestly, it would've been funny on film!) Similar to hiking, when you have to go from one spot to a higher one, even when you get your foot on the next spot, it can be hard to pull yourself up because your center of gravity is too low. So, you end up using your hands & crawling. Yeah, this was me going up the stairs! I used my hands & the step 2 steps up to get me to the next step. I accidentally got a leg workout. :-) But, seriously, it's a nice place where you get a leg workout. It has a fully stocked kitchen - pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, mugs - it's all there. My only suggestion is to add disposable cups (or a reusable plastic cup) to the upstairs bathroom. Once I got my short legs upstairs, there's no way I was going down and back up, so I had to hand-scoop water to my mouth to brush and take my meds that first night, but that's minor. Thanks for a great 4 days - it was a pleasure!

By the Babbling Brook
Kent’s Cabin was perfect for the two of us. Since we were biking the New River Trail, it was a great location. And only 20 minutes to the charming town of Wytheville. The cabin was spotless and very cozy. Being a little chilly at night, the gas fireplace was very welcoming. There was everything we needed in the well stocked kitchen and bathrooms. Hearing the stream flow past the house was a bonus. Ann and Judi were the perfect hosts. My husband and I would definitely stay here again. We loved everything about it!

New Year Getaway
Cute old cabin. Kitchen all up to date. Enjoyed cooking in it. I had many nights sitting in front of the fireplace. So very peaceful. Taking a long soak in the good size tub also there was plenty of hot water, never ran out. Also loved that it was only about 1 mile from a winery. Staff welcoming. Sit in front of their fireplace and have a glass.

New years hideout
We were worn out by lots of company all summer and Fall as well as the holiday crazies so we booked this hideout. Three days of quiet, didn't turn on the TV, exploring local towns and hiking the New River Park Trail were all we needed.

Great place !
We enjoyed our stay at Kent’s cabin. Conveniently located close to the New River Trail, this place has received a lot of TLC. The bed is very comfortable, the linens and towels are plush, the kitchen is well stocked, and the fireplace is gorgeous. We have absolutely no complaints. Hoping to get the opportunity to visit again.

Great cabin
We had a great stay at Kent’s cabin. The place was clean and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was convenient to the New River Trail where we spent several days hiking with our dog. The steps upstairs were steep, but our Lab had no trouble climbing up and down them.

A Uniquely Pleasant Experience
I view it as a privilege to have stayed in such an old structure that was well maintained and clean with an updated, bright kitchen and all appliances working. The bed upstairs was comfortable with a large walk-in closet and a nice bathroom. The steps to the bedroom were steep, as one might imagine in an old cabin, but the railing was sturdy. The road was close by, but I was not bothered by the traffic. I hope to return again.

We certainly hope you will come back often. It is truly an old cabin and has been studied by UNC. The logs are chestnut and the chestnut trees died out from a blight around 1900. We are very lucky that our Father appreciated it and kept it so we could add some modern amenities. It is a treasure. Thanks for coming. Ann and Judi

Very Peaceful
Our stay at this cabin was wonderful! We were in need of a peaceful getaway and this fit the bill. The check in process was very easy and the cabin had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We enjoyed cooking out and even our dog had a wonderful time! We also went fishing and hiking at the nearby state park and checked out the local antique malls. This was a very enjoyable place. Will return again.

1850's Cabin
Our Hosts were super attentive to all of our questions with immediate responses. The cabin was roomy enough and comfortable, however, I have a very sensitive nose and could still smell old stale cigarette smoke from years ago. It did not smell like that which you would get from a fireplace. Others perhaps might not notice. The living room lounge chair and sofa were comfortable but the room was dark even with all the lamps on. I had to sit with the lamp adjusted to directly over me in order to read at night. The AC worked but had to be turned way down at night to cool the upstairs bedroom. We wanted to open the windows but the dead bugs in the window sills prevented us. It does sit very near a bubbling creek but because of the noise from Route 700 highway which is also right there, you do not hear the creek till late at night.

The sweet log cabin near Foster Falls
Unlike most who spend the weekend here, we spent two weeks in the cabin as we have family in the area. There were pros and cons - although the pros did very much outweigh the cons. There were two cons (I would have known these ahead of time had I read other reviews). If you want a very quiet place to stay, consider Hwy. 52 is next to the house and, during the day, it can be noisy. Also the stairs to the upstairs were originally a ladder so the steps are narrow and steep. Aside from these two things, the rest were pros. The cabin was unbelievably clean with so many nice touches - pods for the dishwasher, dryer sheets and pods for the laundry, a bottle of wine from our favorite vineyard, Chateau Morrisette. When we got there Ernie, the caretaker, was mowing the yard. I told him I planned to work while there and he brought over a folding table that suited me perfectly. After the first week, he even stopped by to make sure we were OK and didn't need anything. The internet was just fine for working which I appreciated. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped. It was nice having a bathroom both upstairs and down. The bed was very comfy. Overall, the cabin was just as depicted and we enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful getaway!
Lovely cabin with all you need for a relaxing and quiet getaway. Very clean. Close to the New River Trail for biking and hiking and fishing. It’s about halfway in the park and not far from Wytheville. Check out the Big Walker Tower, the antique places, and the breweries too.

We had a very comfortable stay. The cabin had everything we needed. We had a problem with the heating that was very quickly resolved. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. There are so many things to do within an hours drive. This is a lovely part of the State.

Convenient to I77
Very cute little log cabin just a mile off I-77. Close to road but very quiet. Very comfortable bed, good internet, Direct TV and very easy to bring your luggage in. If you have limited mobility, stairs to bedroom could be a problem but other than that we had a very quiet and relaxing stay. The caretakers are very nice and do a great job.

Location!
We loved being so close to the New River Trail, hiking the cliffs and watching the sunset on the hills across from the cabin. Cozying up on the comfy chairs by the fire and reading a book was heaven. The caretakers were super responsive, friendly and helpful.

Not Enough Good Words!
This cabin is an absolute gem! Perfect location that gives you the sense of seclusion yet not a terrible drive to find things to do. We wanted a true “detach from the world” vacation, and this cabin was the perfect choice. We rested, read, and spent quality time together. The place was amazingly clean with very comfortable furniture. The kitchen was very well stocked, which was great since we chose to cook our meals while there. The complimentary wine was also a very nice touch (and quite tasty). The road that runs parallel with the creek was consistently busy along with the road adjacent to the driveway; however, it was July 4th weekend, so that likely was the reason. It really didn’t make a difference to our enjoyment. All in all, this cabin is a stellar choice, and we will stay here again!

Lovely spot
The cabin is exactly as advertised. It's a beautiful little spot. We went to pedal on the New River Trail. which was about a mile away. The cabin itself is very nice and the bed is SO comfortable. We slept very well. The only drawbacks were a little traffic noise, a very bright light in the yard that eliminated any choice of stargazing (which we love to do when getting away from the city) Overall, it was a pretty nice place to go; wineries and breweries relatively nearby as well

Right next to a major road in the area but otherwise perfect quiet getaway. The stink bugs were trying to stay and move in. Has all the amenities. I’d seriously pay more for a hot tub addition :)).

Tanya, Sorry about the stink bugs. VA Tech is studying the problem but so far no solution. Even though we remove them between guests, they seem to check back in. Hopefully there will be a solution before long. Good news is that they disappear in the summer. They do not carry diseases or bite. An annoyance that so far we remove between guests and somehow they come back. It's not just the Cabin but the whole area. Please come see us again. Ann & Judi

“Cabin by the Creek”…Comfortable & Cozy
What an awesome little cabin-by-the-creek experience! It was just the slice of “comfort & cozy” we sought! Loved the location…off by itself with a little grassy hill to walk the pups and yet so close to all the New River State Park trailheads (Foster Falls & Austinville) we needed! Couldn’t have been more well-suited for us during our 5-day cycling, walking, & exploring trip to southwest Virginia! I think this cabin was the cleanest it could possibly have been…superior to other rentals we have had! We really appreciate that “extra mile!” The cabin driveway made the maneuvering to take off and put on the bikes very simple. There is a pole light to the side of the cabin so nighttime Illumination is very good. There is also a front porch and a back deck light. The cabin owners have thought of everything needed and then some! The kitchen is well-stocked with all the essentials, including soaps, dish towels, & paper towels. There was a complimentary bottle of white wine from a local winery which we enjoyed over several nights by the light of the gas-log fireplace in the very comfortable living room! Yum! The wine was delicious! The stairs to the bedroom upstairs while steep were OK for us with use of the very study handrail. We are over 65! We chose to carry up our 10-lb toy poodles at night. The bathroom is a nice size. The lush white towels and bath mat were a pleasant surprise! The shower is great after a long day of bicycling…plenty of hot water and a great shower head! There are two windows upstairs which made cross-ventilation nice. The windows have roll-down shades. The lighting is very good. The bed was very comfortable. A comforter was provided. The sheets were soft. We brought our own pillows from home, but four pillows were supplied. There is a large walk-in closet with extra blankets. There’s even an ironing board stored in the closet! Hangers & shelving in the closet are more than adequate. While we did hear road noise (from Hwy 52 and Interstate 77, it was not as noticeable as we thought it might be at night inside from inside the cabin. It is fairly loud when outside the cabin during peak times. Our cabin home-base was “just right” as we explored the trails at New River State Park and the towns surrounding it! It was our first time there but won’t be out last! Thank you for sharing your inviting little cabin which was far more spacious than expected! We had a wonderful time there! So did the pups

Lovely property
Was clean beautiful cabin, well stocked with anticipated needs. Easy to locate. Although closer to highway than expected. Communication w owners and local manager excellent. Only addition I would make is a curtain/shade over back door and kitchen window. Found it uncomfortable that anyone could see in at night. I used a sheet the nights we stayed. I'd definitely return and also recommend to fellow travelers.

A lovely spot for a stay
My wife and I have stayed here twice and love the cozy cabin and quick access to the nearby parks and towns. It's always cozy and gives a remote feel while still being accessible.

Long Weekend biking trip
The cabin was awesome. We enjoyed our stay. It was located near shot tower. We biked for 3 days on the New River Trail. Kitchen was well stocked. Fire place was an added plus. Loved Kent's Cabin. I would post pictures but not sure how.

Fall biking trip.
I cannot say enough good things about our stay at Kent’s cabin. Beautiful mums adorned the porch, a nice bottle of wine was waiting along with a dozen fresh eggs. Kitchen was well equipped. Bed was comfortable. The cabin was a nice size and very clean.

This was a very sweet cabin. Would love to know more of its history. Would definitely recommend this. If you have problems with stairs, it might not work. But we enjoyed our time.

Barbara, hope you will come back. Originally the stairs were a ladder. The cabin is made of chestnut logs. The chestnut trees which used to be the building material back in the day was the preferred wood for cabins. There was a blight and the trees died about 1900-1905. This cabin was built about 1850 and has been documented. It is not a historic place because a kitchen has been built on and living made more modern. The people bunked in the loft and the rest of the living was done in the main room. it was built by a stream for water. Windows were small for protection. Hope you will come back to see us again. A great place to relax after a day on the trail
Kent's Cabin was a wonderful place to come home to at the end of a day out on the New River Rail Trail. It was close to Foster Falls and other trail heads, and the cabin itself was super comfortable and had everything we needed (the washer and dryer was an added bonus - so glad to be able to take care of some laundry, especially since we had a stop in Roanoke before heading home). Overall we were really impressed and loved our stay.

Comfortable, sweet cabin in great location
Wonderfully clean and great location. Saw tons of wildlife, some at the cabin and some on the trail. Kitchen had a great feel. Property was perfect for us. Hosts communication was excellent. They even leave sheets to cover the furniture if you have pups, as we did, and a bottle of local wine. Well thought out and everything you need. Would love to stay in the fall and use the fireplace. Oh! and the bed was super comfy. Stairs are steep, but we are in our 60's and 70s and just had to be careful. The pups were a little scared coming down though : )

Charming log cabin next to bubbling brook
Love at first sight. This cabin is adorable . Well fitted out with every you need. We had the most relaxing time rocking on the front porch while listening to the sound of the rushing stream and watching the front porch spider weave his web. It doesn’t get much more relaxed than that. No need for any additional entertainment. WiFi was great. Bed so comfortable I overslept. New River State Park and a lovely trail just a couple of miles away. We took a 10 mile walk and only saw 6 people on bikes so we had the trail to ourselves. There is an interesting graveyard on the way to Foster Falls with some graves of Cuvil War soldiers. Very interesting. The old hotel that once served as a girls industrial school and later an orphanage is being refurbished to once again operate as a hotel. The New River is the SECOND oldest river in the WORLD so take advantage of this trip to spend some time there. Worlds away from your busy life - a real tonic for anyone who needs some quiet nature in their life. Enjoy - I’m telling all my friends about this getaway.
