Great ski trip
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cabin. It was a great family, and a few friends, trip. It was the second time we stayed at this cabin. It is very convenient to Wolf Creek and town.

Pictures don’t do this house justice. It’s beautiful inside and out! Plenty of room for our family. Garage is huge and has plenty of space. We used the hot tub each day which was overlooking the river. And it’s only 20 minutes to go ski! Might come back down in the summer to use the back deck and do some fishing. Definitely recommend.

Perfect Wolf Creek Base Camp

Quick Getaway
First, I want to thank our host who was so quick to answer any questions we had and was amendable to some changes. Second… wow! What a fun place to stay for some kids and adults. We had a blast just enjoying the scenery and the cabin. Will be coming back!

Very relaxing
We have stayed at this property several times and have always enjoyed. This time was no different except that the property definitely needs some maintenance. Dishwasher needs to be mounted, deck needs repair, window shade replaced and window in kitchen repaired. This really did not affect the quality of our stay but at $500+ a night I expect upkeep. I was impressed with new showers and the fire pit. The dog pen was a great addition as well. I also enjoyed the newly planted flower beds. The dog next door was annoying but I understand you have no control over that. Maybe the pooch will be moving because that property is up for sale. House heats up during the day but cools off enough to sleep at night but must keep the windows open. Kitchen was stocked well with utensils and cookware. Overal we really love this property it just needs some tlc on the outside and a few things on the inside. Also could use a good power wash on the outside. The hot tub wired fine but again could use a new cover and some maintenance to the surrounding box thing. We will stay there again.

Family Fun in South Fork

Great rental property
This property was our family’s favorite rental. The cabin’s floor plan is well thought out for a large family gathering. Great area to explore with lots of fun activities within an hours drive. Hot springs, sand dunes, horseback riding, rail biking, fishing, hiking as so much more. Highly recommend,

My friends and I do an annual trip to Wolf Creek and the Elk River House did not disappoint! The beds were clean and comfy, the kitchen was well stocked, and there was enough space for all of us and our dogs to have a great time without stepping on each others' toes! 5 stars, would love to stay here again!

Stay here if you’re looking for comfort and a feeling of home!
Stayed here through Christmas with my family and couldn’t have been happier. A tree was decorated for us to use as well which was great. We have a big family so sometimes it can be hard to find places that accommodate all of us but this place was perfect. The kids had room to run around and play and the adults had space to relax and let loose. Highly recommend staying here

Not a house for toddlers.. not for us.
The home and scenery are beautiful. However the blinds are broken so you can’t open them to enjoy the view. The home isn’t clean, dust and dirt everywhere. Light bulbs are burnt out. At this time there is building of other houses going on around the home so it’s a little junkie that way. Neighbors are very close with dogs that bark. The heat is terrible to deal with in the winter. It doesn’t stay a constant temperature. You go from being way too hot to way too cold. There is a propane stove, however there isn’t anything to protect and keep a 1 year old from getting burned on it. There aren’t any provisions for babies, no pack and play no gates for the stairs. We’ve stayed at many homes that offer shampoos, soaps etc. We had to buy TP and hand soap for the bathrooms and good thing we brought all our own toiletries because they don’t offer any. The home sleeps 14 but only offers 7 old, dingy, white bath towels. The master shower has excellent hot water but the other bathroom shower is barely even warm. The toilet in the master bathroom runs constantly. We would turn it off at night. We would have rather stayed at a nearby motel.

Great location, great home, lots of flexility and space. Well equipped. Friendly owners. Neighbors are a bit close but were friendly, except for the one dog next door. We will be booking another stay here for sure!

Great place for family weekend
Perfect location along the South Fork of the Rio Grande. We enjoyed the hot tub, fishing on the river, and roasting marshmallows. Beds were comfortable. Property manager responded to questions quickly.

Great house and great location
What a cool place! We had a wonderful time being right on the river. So many things to do. Loved the fire pit! We cooked hotdogs on skewers and sat by the fire watching the stars. House is super spacious and very accommodating. I half way expect places to be dirty since I'm such a clean freak and was pleasantly surprised, it was very clean and tidy. Lots of games and played the heck out of the corn hole set. If you are coffee drinkers, make sure you bring the cone type filters. No need to bring negativity, you will have tons of fun.

Family weekend in South Fork
Our family has one member that is in a wheelchair. The dock on this property gave him the ability to be close to the water without a great deal of difficulty. The property is conveniently located to amenities in town also. Truly a great experience!

This is just what we needed. The house is set up really well for (2) families to visit. The proximity to the stream, and Wolf Creek, made it a perfect location. All utilities and amenities were working and we sincerely enjoyed our visit. Thanks again!

Return visit for skiing!
This was our second time staying here. Its a great cabin and fits our family of 7 perfectly! The hot tub was fantastic! There was tons of snow while we were there and someone even came and cleared the driveway. It was so nice to have the garage to park our car in. The house was clean and beds were very comfortable. We had a minor issue with the thermostats not holding the temp but we text the host and and it was promptly resolved. We will be back next year!

Great Ski House for 11 people
My friends, family, and I stayed here for a ski trip to Wolf Creek. The house was very spacious, had a large kitchen, was well furnished, well-heated, easy to get to, and great for gathering. We enjoyed the hot tub and easy access to the resort. It was close to ski rentals and 20 minutes to Wolf Creek. I gave it 4/5 stars only because of a few things that needed to be updated/fixed. The single bathroom toilet ran constantly, the garbage disposal was rough, the towels looked old and needed to be replaced, and the pillows were flat and also needed to be replaced. We would recommend staying here with those things updated!

Favorite VRBO in South Fork
My family has stayed here for the last 5 years. I will say that this trip, the house looked the best it has in all 5 years- you can tell the outside of the house was sprayed down/power washed, windows had been cleaned, etc. We absolutely love staying here and the openness of the home. When you're on the back porch, you can't hear the highway that's out front. The furnishings are great, the kitchen is stocked, laundry, etc. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else when in South Fork!

Nice cabin in a great location
The cabin was a great place to stay. The deck over the river was a relaxing place to sit and listen to the water. We were able to fish along the river but the bank was very overgrown, not quite as clean and easy access as the photos showed. The hot tub did not work. This was very disappointing, and I feel I should have been warned about it before arriving and finding a note on the hot tub cover. I recommend you bring extra toilet paper too, there was 1 roll in each bathroom with no more to be found. The kitchen is stocked pretty well with cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc. The trash is only picked up on Monday, so if there is a group that left before you but after Monday be prepared for the garage to smell BAD!! All 3 trash cans in the garage were full and smelled disgusting. We did enjoy the location and cabin, but if you plan on more than 10 guests it might be a little crowded especially in the living room, but there is a lot of room outside. Be prepared for the next door neighbors dogs to bark nonstop though. There were also loose/stray dogs around. Be sure to keep all food and trash put up, we did see bears in the yard. All in all it was a good place to stay, just a few issues.

Maintenance is key
Arrived to a layer of dust on everything. It’s as if the last time it was cleaned was months ago and left empty since. There is no A/C in the house. Yes, it’s Colorado, but it should have been list as without A/C. The hot tub was nasty and did not work!! Which was one of the reasons we decided to stay there. The coffee pot look was nasty. Which we purchased one and left. The refrigerator had all the shelves held in place by duct tape. Dishwasher isn’t secured to the cabinet, open it and it falls forward. It could be a nice place if it was cared for.

Disappointing
The morning before we left for a 9 night stay, we were told that the hot tub was not in working order and would not be replaced. When we arrived, we found the BBQ and the oven in filthy conditions. There were many issues, large and small the made our stay uncomfortable and disappointing. The day we got there the house was heated to 81 degrees, and could not cool down, even with the windows open. The garbage disposal was plugged, and the sink did not drain. The coffee pot had not been cleaned and had left over coffee grinds in it. Apparently guests are asked to do their own dishes and put them away, so we found many dirty greasy dishes and pots in the cabinets. There was only an old dirty sponge in the sink. There was no working can opener, no toaster, no salad spinner, and no wine opener, and 4 coffee filters that fit the coffee pot. When the managers appeared to bring a sponge, draino and dishsoap, they looked at the BBQ and connected the propane. However, we were never able to open the propane as it required a wrench. So, we were never able to burn off the dirt and use the BBQ. After 2 days of Draino, the sink unclogged and we were able to use the dishwasher.Although many of these are small issues, all of them together make the stay far from what we had expected for 400. a night. It seems the house needs a much closer inspection after each guest so it can be clean and fully equipped with working appliances and kitchen utensils. The silverware was old and many pieces were missing. Some of the windows did not open and some of the blinds did not close. The rest of the house was clean, but the furniture in the living room, the couch and loveseat were very old, very used and uncomfortable. The outdoor furniture was also on the verge of splitting through the seats. As a matter of fact, there was no furniture in the house that was comfortable, except the bed. The house is close to a major highway, and there was a lot of noise from the road. So we decided to leave after 8 nights and come home early, despite the fact we had already paid. I think that this could be a good stay, with a lot more attention to details and an upgrade of the appliances and furniture.

Big Spacious Home
Big space. Nice property. Little beer caps in inconspicuous places. Biggest beef was (likely) hot tub. Only those who got in hot tub developed painful itchy rash a couple of days later. Hard to say exactly but this is usually due to infection with a bacteria that can survive with some chlorine. Condition is referred to as “Hot Tub Dermatitis.”

We regret that you didn’t have a 5 star experience at Elk River. Hot tubs are ALWAYS monitored for total bromine, pH, and total alkalinity prior to any guests arriving. In addition, filters are changed on a regular basis.

Great location, easy to get to and from Wolf Creek.
The Cabin is great, awesome view and a very nice place to unwind. For travelers, plan on eating in and making dinner at the house because options are limited in South Fork for dining. The Rainbow Grocery Store in town was well stocked

Great cabin for big ski group!
We stayed here with 3 adults and 4 kids. We had plenty of room! We loved the openness and the giant kitchen! The beds were very comfortable. We really enjoyed the pool table. The hot tub had a malfunction just prior to our arrival but the property manager was very quick to respond and even came to the house to assess. The location for the ski mountain was perfect.....18 minutes! The house had everything we needed and we had such a wonderful time that we were not ready to leave!

Family Winter Adventure
Great family property. We really enjoyed our stay. Excellent location. Close to the middle of town and not far from the ski slopes. This is our second stay at the home and it really suites all of our needs and wants! We have stayed at the big resorts in the past, but we love the small town feel and the lack of crowds at Wolf Creek. (Please don't let developers ruin it!) We will definitely stay at Elk River House again. Thank you, The Cobb Family
