This was very unfortunate that this traveller broke the house rules of no smoking/no smokers. We have created this environment purposely, not only for the enjoyment of other non-smokers, but for ourselves as well. Yes my husband has allergies, but it is simply what we prefer. I did mention to the guests that I would try to re-rent the space, which would have lead to hoping to get a last minute booking in peak season. We were also preparing to leave for a long vacation, however I had someone here to look after guests, so that would not be an issue. The issue here is that these travellers did not read the policy. They also do not mention that although they were not entitled to any refund, I actually did send them a partial refund, which I was in no way obligated to do. My advice to them and anyone else reading this, is to be "sure" to read the rules for the property you want to rent out. My amazing 5 star ratings and awesome reviews here should vindicate this one!
