We liked the food and the room ample parking very quiet.. Little over priced no service to the room and refused to heat a small meal in the microwave for us..as there is no facility here...just not accommodating

Thanks for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed the food and parking. We place supplies of towels, tea&coffee and amenities for two days in the rooms, and of course are happy to respond to requests for more, as we did in your case. As far as reheating food, it is not our policy to do this, as we have a very good restaurant. Your request to reheat another venue's food at 9.30pm we regarded as a little unreasonable and not within the safety guidelines of food handling.

We had a very enjoyable stay. Room was spacious and clean. The food in the dining room was superb. Staff very friendly. Will come back.

York weekend.
As we booked a heritage room we expected it to be in the main part of the hotel but instead we were put in the motel section. Everything was okay but expensive for what it was. Alice's restaurant (part of the hotel) was excellent.

Hello Margaret I am sorry to hear this. As I would probably have booked you in, I am unaware of any transfer of rooms. Can you please make contact with me regarding your booking. If you booked a Heritage room, then a refund at least is coming your way. Can you give me the date of your stay so I can check what happened please?

The Owner
Nola made me feel very welcome as I was on my own for two nights. After a cold day standing at a display stand at the Dowerin Field day, when I finally arrived the 1 hour and fifteen minutes drive time back to the Hotel I was met by Nola who suggested I have a scotch to ward off the chill. Excellent advise !!!

Right in the heart of the town. Had a lovely, tasty. evening meal in the restaurant. Very comfortable room upstairs with the benefits of a normal reverse cycle air conditioner and a gas burner in the fireplace which added to our romantic interlude. All round first class

Beautiful accommodation. Max is the lovely dog.
Foodies like me will be in heaven as you are convinently located near some of the loveliest eateries. Yum. The hotel is lovely and a short wall to my fav place the bottlo for that emergency beverage that is a must when sitting on the balcony on a crisp winters night admiring the night sky.

Hi Spike thanks for your review. York is a small town and some of the businesses are struggling to survive. We have taken the position as a business, not to offer breakfast, but to focus on other meals, so there is a distribution of our guests to other businesses. Our one chef is contracted for 37 hrs a week, and to offer breakfast each day we have guests, would require the employment of another chef/cook.

Had a lovely stay , the hotel meals were exceptional for a country 'pub', only 2 whinges , 1. I booked on my phone and thought I was getting one of the historic rooms , no biggy but would have preffered this type of room , and 2 , the hotel doesn't offer breakfast , ate elsewhere

Thanks for writing a review. I'm so glad you enjoyed your meals at our restaurant. The websites default to the cheapest room on mobile sites I think, and you don't get the full range of what's available. Next time, we will book you a Heritage room. As there are many eateries that specialise in great breakfast, we encourage our guests to patronise them and try out other local businesses.

Perfect weekend getaway
We came to York for the first time for a friends wedding. We booked into the Palace not really expecting too much. It far surpassed our expectations! The cleanliness and room facilities were 10/10 and the location perfect. Alice was a great host and made us feel very welcome. We would defiantly stay here again if we ever needed to visit York again.

Pleasant staff and good experience
Staff were all very friendly (especially Nola), room was very comfortable - and we loved the hotel "mascot" - Max the dog! Food in the restaurant was FABULOUS - beautifully presented and very generous servings, too. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Overnighter in York
Loved our stay, lovely host in Nola, very welcoming, so was her friendly dog! Food in restaurant was delicious, could've eaten another plate of beef cheeks! Bed was too hard for my back though as I do have a back problem, wife had no issue. Room very clean and spacious, has tea/coffee facilities and small fridge, just right for our short stay, we booked in terrace room. All in all very nice stay in your hotel and York as a town is a nice place to visit with friendly locals and historic and interesting places to visit. Missed Nola on checkout but just as lovely husband saw us out. Thanks again.

Confortable stay in a lovely heritage town.
This hotel was very comfortable. Our room was large with a king size bed with lovely bed lined. Very well presented and well above the WA standard. The restaurant attached to the hotel was excellent.

Lovely units in Historic York
We stayed in new terrace units not the old hotel (picture on wotif showed us a huge bedroom in the old hotel). The Manager was a lady called Nola and she was fantastic - welcoming and lovely. She really looked after us. Room was lovely and clean & spacious and very comfortable. Would have loved to have more time to spend in beautiful York. We will definitely be back for a lengthy stay in the future. Nola recommended the Chinese Restaurant next door and the food was cheap and to die for. We had takeaway and the serving sizes were huge. The best Chinese food we have had and no MSG.

Lovely hotel, but beware the low season
I didn't realise January was the low season. The hotel was closed, but we stayed in a motel room out the back, but we were the only ones there so i felt a bit alone.

Alex couldn't be more helpful and made our stay a pleasant one. country hospitality and courtesy is alive and well in York.

Historic and superb Stay a must
Loved the ambiance and history of the hotel....service was fantastic and Nola and staff run a fantastic restaurant where service is outstanding food amazing and very generous servings....we will be back :)

Great location in the centre of town
Plenty of parking outside our room. Modern, clean room with good facilities. You need to be mindful when booking that you will not be staying in a lovely historical building as it appears. I thought I was booking a night in the old Palace Hotel but the rooms are actually motel units at the back of the property. Nice rooms but absolutely nothing like we had expected so a little disappointed. This could have been a mistake on my part,at the time of booking I could see no information indicating that we would not be staying in the historic property.

Expensive and unclean
The room was unclean, the bed was as hard a rock, and the wifi did not work down in the rooms. Since the restaurant is not open for breakfast I would have at least expected a toaster in my room, but there was nothing but a fridge & a kettle. There are other accommodations in York, that are much cheaper and cleaner and with better facilities, unfortunately this was the only hotel available and for $195 a night I would have expected better. The pumpkin risotto I ordered for dinner was overpriced and under cooked, and very average tasting. I will say the staff were gorgeous very friendly.

Very good hotel with traditional quality
Stayed in the main hotel building as we wanted to experience the old hotel. Facilities and staff both excellent, and I will stay here again.

Motel type accommodation
The web site gave the impression that we would be staying within the original hotel but when we arrived the owner told us that they were going to stay in Perth that night and we were given a key to the motel type room in the car park area behind the original hotel. We were told to leave the key in our room the next day when we left. The restaurant was of course closed for the night as it seems everything else in the small town was as well. We did find a place open but the food was awful. Our room had cobwebs around the place other than that it was acceptable for the money.
Hi Julie thanks for your comments about our property. You were given the room you booked. The room is not in the carpark, the carpark adjoins the accommodation which is most convenient when you have to carry bags. York is a small country town, and does not open its eateries every night. Indeed some restaurants in Perth also close on Monday / Tuesday. I'm glad to hear that you found the room good value though.

Good hotel in historic street
We had to pick up key at nearby liquor store. Our room was in a modern block behind the heritage hotel building. Unfortunately we stayed there mid-week, so the hotel restaurant and bar were closed, which meant we couldn't really appreciate the main hotel building. Our room was very nice with quality fittings. A full size fridge was provided. The free WiFi was available only in or just outside the hotel building which was a little awkward because the building was locked. There didn't appear to be any guests staying in the main hotel building.

Don't stay here on a long weekend
We stayed on the Sunday and Monday nights of a long weekend and were disappointed to find the hotel effectively closed with no breakfast, lunch or dinner available and the room was not serviced. I had chosen the hotel mainly because of good reviews for the food but was unable to try it.

Weekend 50th birthday celebration with friends
A good place to stay right in the middle of town. Easy walking distance to all shops in the main street. There is plenty of parking and the units are modern and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good to relax in a laid back but modern country town.

Surprise !
The room was extremely well decorated and very comfortable! Great location to walk and take in the Main Street. The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious! I loved Max the boss he really made me feel welcome!

Room was lovely, the highlights being a very comfy king size bed and a hot shower with great water pressure. The description on wotif is completely wrong. The bar is not open and neither was the restaurant when I stayed. I had to wander around til I found someone to check in. There was no bath tub in the room which was one of the big reasons for booking there. Perhaps check the hotels own website for more accurate information before booking.
