We stayed in a family room which was spacious and clean, but unbearably hot. It was 26° on the day we stayed, and because of the hotel holding a beer festival outside into the early hours of the morning, we could not open the windows as the children would not have slept. As this is an old, period property, understandably there is no air-con, but the temperature really was unbearable.
The rooms are dated, and although I understand the character of the building needs to be kept, some updating would not go amiss. The bathroom in particular was probably older than I am, and the shower was poor. The beds were comfortable and clean, and there were good facilities in the room, including ironing equipment and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast was included and was really lovely, and we couldn't fault the service, but the room price was high for what we got, particularly with the beer festival on, which took over the whole hotel and car park. We were not notified this was happening prior to our arrival. The hotel can charge what it likes as there is little competition for family rooms in Harleston, and although I can't fault the staff and service, I do think this hotel is overpriced and in need of freshening up.
