didnt use the bar personally, so can't comment, but the room we stayed in was extremely clean, the staff were very helpful, no problems with parking and fir residents staying at the Swan 20% discount on all food bought in the restaurant! very pleased

Fantastic hotel! Perfect location. Lovely staff, free parking, and spotlessly clean. There's always something in the cleanliness area that makes me pull a face in most hotels I've stayed in, but not here, absolutely spotless! Lovely stay, highly recommended, and will most definitely return

It's not possible to explain how fantastic the staff were. I got stuck and called the emergency number and the team were amazing and helped. On to the normal nitty gritty: there is plenty of parking, you need to log your reg number when you check in on to their tablet. Rooms are nice, not too fancy but the bed was super comfortable and you have blackout blinds if you want to have a lay in. The bathroom was super clean, and a great size. The only issue (which is not the hotel's fault!) is taxis (including Ubers) around the area are almost non-existent. If you're going, make sure you can book a taxi well in advance as I was not able to book one on the day. I would definitely stay here again if I'm in the area.

The highlighted parts of the breakfast menu were ridiculously unreadable. Surely the letters should be in white to stand out against the dark background. That ruined my breakfast.

The room was clean and comfortable and not too noisy despite being on the main road. The WiFi was terrible - poor strength and constantly dropping the connection. If you need access to the internet during your stay in Alton I would recommend staying elsewhere.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The building is beautiful and attractive. I last stayed there in 1976 and it has changed a lot. The rooms are now all en-suite, which wasn't the case 49 years ago. The room in which I stayed was fantastically quiet and the bathroom was beautiful! There was a bath with a shower over and both were fabulous. I also loved the scent in the hair and body wash that was provided. I loved the decor in the bathroom but the room was a little dowdy, except for the art - pictures of birds - that I really liked. There were a few minor faults. The first is one I find in almost all hotels and that is that the Freeview TV has not had a channel update for years. As a result, some channels are absent and others were misnamed or in the wrong location. Freeview TVs should have a channel update scan performed 4 times a year. The bedding struck me as too short for the bed. I like being able to pull it over my head when I sleep and I could not do that. The loo had a drip from the cistern into the bowl and while this had no effect on its function, over a long period it will cost the hotel a significant amount in unnecessary water charges. But basically this was an excellent hotel in a beautiful town. I had dinner in the hotel on my first night. It was good but the menu struck me as rather corporate and I'd expect to see identical menus in other hotels in the chain. The waitress who served me was sweet and I was very happy to leave her a tip.
