This was my first experience with VRBO and am very disappointed with my stay. Ironically the host attempted to blame me for my complaint by stating I have been the only guest who complained of the cigarette smoke smell. The person below me smoked and each time he would supposedly go outside to smoke, I could smell the smoke as if he was in the next room. Speaking of the next room, the spare (the room w/two beds) smelled like an ashtray. The host has five air fresheners in the home, which tells me there is a known issue with how it smells (The smell, by the way, was stall and old). The host knew smoke came upstairs and failed to share that with me before I arrived. I smelled smoke as soon as I arrived and messaged the host. The ads clearly says, “no smoking on the premises,” which is why VRBO refunded me 200 for the first two days of my stay. Then the host refunded the majority of the remaining days excluding the fees and taxes which is why I gave 3 stars (I moved after 2 nights). I’m not sure how many of the previous guests who stayed, has done so in the winter while a smoker stayed on the premises. I advise anyone who is thinking of staying here during the winter to ask if the room below is being rented by a smoker. I am super sensitive to smoke, like inhaler sensitive, so please ask all the questions you need to have clarity. I didn’t think I needed to because it said non smoking, but I was disillusioned. I left the place cleaner than it was before I came regardless.
