We booked this rental for a multi-generational family Thanksgiving. We needed a large space with lots of beds/baths and this fit the bill. While the house was definitely quirky, it would have been great, except the hot water heater was not working correctly. Additionally, the water coming out of some of the taps ran brown until they were flushed out for a bit. There was a complicated boiler system tied to the radiant floor heat as well as the hot water and it continuously stopped working. The owner did try to address the issue but was unable to resolve probably due to the holiday weekend and complex system. Sometimes flipping the breaker would restore hot water and sometimes we were unable to get that to work. The result was no hot water for about one third of the time we were staying at the property. The owner asked that we turn the thermostats down to 55-60 degrees and offered us access to another house in the neighborhood to take showers. Neither of these solutions felt like viable options to us as the outdoor temperature was quite cold. One family member who lived close enough chose to go home in the evenings and we did have to boil water to wash large amounts of dishes. At the end of our stay, I let the owner know that our stay was impacted very negatively (often not having warm showers or having to boil water for dishes). I asked for a partial refund and the owner was unwilling to entertain any financial compensation. This felt very unfair and unreasonable.
