Cozy creekside cabin near Big Powderhorn's Lift #1 & Recreational Trail #2!!

  • Find winter fun and relaxation at our Northwoods getaway! Located just North of US Hwy 2 between Ironwood and Bessemer in Big Snow Country of Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula, Waldhein is the red chalet with sand and slate-colored trim at the corner of Creekside Trail and Powderhorn Road. Conveniently located on your way to the main lodge of Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort, our pull-thru driveway accesses both roads, so parking is ample for multiple vehicles. No need to turn trailers around, just pull right on through!

    We’re minutes from Blackjack and Indianhead Mountain for boarding and downhill skiing variety.

    For your Big Powderhorn Mountain experiences, you can WALK up Powderhorn Road to Lift #1 (about 1200 ft), drive, or you can take the shuttle during snow season to the Gun Barrel Lodge or any of the other bars/restaurants in the Mountain area.

    You have ride in/ride out access (leave your trailers in our driveway) to SNOWMOBILE & ATV TRAIL # 2.

    Cross-country skiers can pole across the road for local Nordic trails and are in close proximity to the 26 Km Wolverine Nordic Cross Country Ski & Mountain Bike Trails.

    Waldhein is a two-level chalet with front decks on the main and upper levels. The lower front deck with charcoal grill on the main level (except during snow season).

    It has three private bedrooms (1 Queen on the main level, 2 Full-size bedroom on the upper level) and a lofted space with 2 Twin-sized beds. There is a bathroom available on each level (shower/tub combo on the main level, shower on upper level). The main level has a living room space, dining table and card table nook, all with a view of the central wood-burning fireplace! The kitchen is fully-stocked with anything you might need during your stay, including coffee and an assortment of teas and honey. Linens and most bath necessities are provided. You can enjoy free WiFi in the cozy atmosphere, with a woodburning fireplace that is perfect for cold winter nights.

Great location for skiing, very clean and well stocked with supplies/kitchen items. Communication with owner was wonderful-they took care of a hiccup with internet and we appreciated their kindness.Will definitely return if the opportunity arises. Nice, homey chalet and hospitality.

Great cabin for a snow filled weekend with the family. Super close to Big Powderhorn making for a short drive to ski. It was a winter vacation dream sitting next to the fire watching the snow pile up.

Winter Wonderland

This was an amazing winter wonderland getaway! Such a cozy cabin that fit our family, dogs, and friends perfectly. So close to Big Powderhorn and the owners provided so many essentials, such great hospitality. Beautiful scenery, we can't wait to come back.

Another Excellent Getaway

Ski get -away

Perfect little chalet close to Big Powderhorn with all the amenities! Plenty of room for everyone. Cozy and decorated in vintage ski - chic. Loved cozying up by the fireplace with the whole family after a day on the slopes.

Great ski cabin

We were up for a long ski weekend, cozy cabin with a great fireplace. Very close to both Jackson Creek, blackjack and powderhorn. Skied them all, as well as visited the ski flying jump.

Ski Weekend

The house was just right for our group. It is moments away from Powderhorn and exactly as described in the listing. The fireplace was perfect after a day of skiing and the cards and games kept us all engaged. Thanks for sharing this cottage w us!

Fantastic stay in Northwoods!

The chalet was perfect for 6 days of outdoor fun with our family of seven. The cross country ski trails and hiking around the chalet are unmatched - and we've enjoyed downhill skiing in the area for several years. The fireplace was wonderful, and beds were great. We brought an instant pot and cooked all of our meals. Truly a first rate place!

Wonderful!

My husband & I enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Waldhein Chalet. The place was comfy, cozy and nicely furnished. We appreciated that we were able to bring our golden retriever with us, and she had so much fun prancing through the snow. It was a perfect weekend getaway and hope to come back again sometime. Sue, Dave, & Billie!

Perfect winter getaway in the UP

Thanks for an amazing place to stay. The house is so cozy, comfortable, and the perfect place for our winter weekend. We skied at big Powederhorn and Snow River, so the location was perfect. We also snow shoed the Wolverine Nordic trails, which were just down the road. Thanks for being an excellent host and being dog friendly! We can't wait to come back!!!

Perfect chalet

The house was just perfect. Very clean and welcoming as soon as we walked into the door. Plenty of firewood already in place for us to use. The house was warm and felt just like home. I couldn't ask for any better communication with the owners too. It was the perfect get away and if we decide to visit the area again we will try to rent this home once more. Everything was just perfect for our family get away.

Great stay

Was a great building unfortunately big powerhorn closed early so we were unable make use of thr proximity but Sean gave us some great alternative options and we were still able to have a great time.

Great stay, but those with allergies be cautious

This is a well maintained, cozy spot. Perfect for our long weekend. The manager was very friendly and left out some nice treats. Only downside was as a person with allergies and it being a pet friendly place I did have some allergy symptoms flare up. It was manageable for me, but could be a problem for others with more serious pet allergies.

Cozy Chalet - Great Location

We had a wonderful time at the Waldhein. Warm, cozy and had everything we needed for our stay. Great location and parking for our family of skiers & snowmobilers. Lots of hooks to hang our gear after a day on the slopes/trails. We had plenty of firewood and loved the fireplace. The beds were comfortable with plenty of clean bedding. We always had hot water with great water pressure and lots of towels. Great communication, exactly as pictured, many nice touches that made our stay very comfortable. So nice that we could bring our dog, he loved it!

Fun Weekend Getaway

We had a great time! It was nice to be so close to Big Powderhorn. We still ended up driving to the lodge to buy lift tickets/rent gear, but had no issues with parking. Convenient location. The driveway was a bit icy but we had no issues with our vehicles. Make sure you have the key code saved on your phone ahead of time because you will not have cell service when you arrive!
