We are terribly sorry that you had this nightmare at our property. Nothing like this has ever happened here before, and I think that if you read our other reviews, you will see that this was a total aberration, and that most folks have nothing but good things to say about the place. A whole series of unfortunate events converged to make this situation worse than it could have been. Firstly, I always check the house the same day that we have people checking in. That day, though, something had come up that made me unable to do so. I thought that the house was okay as I had checked it out several couple of days before. I have no idea how so many flies hatched out in a few days. Again, this has NEVER happened in the 40+ years that the house has been in my family. It doesn't help you but I will never make that mistake again of not checking the same day! Secondly, I was already late for a meeting when you arrived and told me about the situation, and I had to rush off. Thirdly, I received a message from VRBO but it was garbled and I could make no sense of it. I called my husband and asked him to go over. When he went over to the house initially, he did not see that many flies flying around. There were some dead ones on the floor, which he swept up. He thought it was just a few flies, and we do live on a farm. He offered a discount and later apologized for his initial response. Truly, neither one of us realized the extent of the problem at all. You did not inform us that you were not staying and I did not find this out until midday the next day. Once I learned that you were not there, I went to the house and looked. I was horrified to see that you had not been exaggerating, and I immediately called the pest control company AND the cleaning service and further, immediately gave you a full refund. Again, we are so sorry that this happened. All that said, I do think it was rather disingenuous of you to book the house for 6 adults, later to tell me that there would also be 4 children, and then ultimately show up with TWELVE people. I did ultimately, against my better judgement, say that you could bring the FOUR children at no extra cost, because believe it or not, I was trying to help you out, but then you still showed up with 2 more people! I realize that this has no bearing at all on the fly situation, which was more or less an "act of God". but even so, it was not really fair to us. Still we are sincerely sorry that this happened to you and ruined your weekend.

Wow! We are sorry that your experience here was so disappointing. Most guests that we have had have loved the farm AND the house. The mattresses are less than a year old and we have had no complaints before now about the beds. In fact, we have had multiple people tell us how well they slept here. Also we had no idea that the shower was not draining. If you had let us know, we could have had that fixed. In fact, when we did see you briefly outside you said everything was fine. Yes, the room with the tv is surrounded with windows but honestly, we would never "keep a watchful eye on our guests"! We do live next door but we try our best to respect everyone's privacy! Most people enjoy the view, which is why we have not covered it up with curtains. Further, the room with the TV is NOT the " main room". We made a conscious decision not to have a focus on having TVs in every room when there is so much to enjoy outdoors. There is a parlor/living room with two full sized couches, and there is a library with a library table and chairs for playing games. We are aware of the electrical issue and have been trying to get an electrician down here to sort it out. There is a shortage of contractors and it is hard to schedule someone. Admittedly, we did forget to replace the soap. We usually do but we have had a lot going on and that detail was overlooked. Anyway, sorry you did not enjoy your stay!
