Castello was just as described: a rustic, traditional Tuscan property, tucked away on a quiet hillside with spectacular panoramic views from every terrace. Check-in was very straight forward and Jenny provided us with everything we needed to know prior to our arrival. She was a very responsive host.The house was homely. The kitchen was well-equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were spacious with plenty of storage. The highlight of the property was clearly its position, and the magnificent views across the hillsides opposite, with their beautiful hamlets and churches. It was lovely listening to the church bells, the crickets, and watching the eagles gliding and rising on the thermals at lunchtime. We made friends with the cats and were guilty of feeding them during our stay. Sorry!Unfortunately, the downside of the stay for us was the heat. We were there in August with temperatures of 39 degrees and we just couldn't keep cool in the house. We followed the advice of closing the shutters during the daytime and using the fans but it didn't provide relief. There were also a couple of issues with the water supply to the house/village while we were there, but Jenny and Anna did their best to help and advise us, and it wasn't too long before it was sorted out. Castello is a lovely house that provides an authentic italian experience. It just needs an air con unit!

Beautiful villa in beautiful Tuscan locatuon

Beautiful stone villa tastefully appointed on a hill in Tuscany overlooking other hills and valley, surrounded by olive trees and other local forest/fauna beauty. Jenny is a responsive, helpful host and check in is super easy. I've stayed here twice. It's a special place.

A perfect base for exploring Tuscany

We loved our stay in this beautiful location with its peaceful surroundings and beautiful views. The house is clean and comfortable and well equipped, and it's the perfect base to explore all the best that Tuscany has to offer. Siena, Florence and Pisa are within easy reach by car, but we also chose to take the train from Lucca for some trips as it proved less stressful than navigating roads, tolls and parking! The smaller, quieter villages to the north were probably our favourite places and we'll miss sitting out on the patio in the evening with the cats to keep us company!

Urige gemütliche Unterkunft mit toller Aussicht

Schön gelegene, gut ausgestattete Unterkunft mit tollem Ausblick in die Berge. Im Vorfeld wurde bereits mit der Vermieterin kommuniziert, dass es im April in dem Haus möglicherweise etwas kühl sein könnte. Die Heizung ist offensichtlich nicht verlässlich. Insgesamt war es aber trotzdem ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt und die Unterkunft können wir empfehlen. Sehr unkomplizierte und schnelle Kommunikation mit der Vermieterin. Lucca ist eine 20 minütige Autofahrt entfernt. Vom Haus aus kann man ( auch wenn nicht beschildert) mindestens 3 schöne Wanderungen in die Umgebung unternehmen.

Toscane au printemps

La maison est magnifique, très chaleureuse et d'une grande propreté. On s'y sent tout de suite bien. Elle a toutes les caractéristiques d'une maison typique de Toscane (terre cuite au sol et au plafond, du bois, de la pierre, des persiennes et volets intérieurs, des petites cheminées). La vue sur les montagnes et les champs d'oliviers est superbe et les couchers de soleil sur la terrasse couverte magiques ! Nous avons rayonné entre Lucques, Pise et Florence (en train) et profité du calme de la maison (apéro et bons repas en terrasse, lecture dans le joli salon). La communication avec Jenny a toujours été facile et elle a tout fait pour que nous ne manquions de rien et profitions au mieux de notre séjour. Nous recommandons vivement cette maison et serions heureux d'y refaire une étape une prochaine fois.

Wunderschön gelegener Ausgangspunkt für Reisen in die Nord-Toskana und den Apennin

Jennys wunderschön gelegenes Haus ist liebevoll und mit viel Geschmack eingerichtet. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet und lädt dazu ein, die leckeren und günstigen Produkte der Region zu verkochen. Die Lage auf dem Bergrücken bietet immer wieder einen neuen Blick ins Tal, je nach Tagezeit und Wetter. Besonders dankbar waren wir für die Mückennetze über den Betten, da trotz der Trockenheit erstaunlich viele kleine fiese Mücken unterwegs waren. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen gerne nochmal wieder. Kerstin und Andreas

Stone cottage on the ridgeline

We spent a month in this comfortable and well-appointed cottage. The large patio, adjacent to the kitchen, afforded us an opportunity to have meals overlooking the lush green valley. The covered porch provided shade as we watched the sun move across the mountains. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals in comfort. The built in grill on the patio was a plus. The bedroom was large and had all casement windows which we kept open to allow in the sounds of the community down in the valley - the mules, roosters, church bells. We never needed to use the second floor sitting area or bedroom, but it is there for a larger group. The walking trails - always up or down, never flat - afforded views of olive groves, other homes and everyday life in Tuscany. The drive to Lucca - a well-preserved walled city with wonderful restaurants and a walking trail on top of the walls - was an easy 20 minutes. There is a great bakery - Il Forno - minutes away from the house with fresh bread and pastries. An excellent supermarket - Esselunga - is about 15 minutes away. Castello is well situated to visit many of the wonderful venues in Tuscany. We are in our 70s, and our first foray up the road to the cottage was an adventure. We got used to the road and learned to use our car horn to everyone's advantage! Jenny, and her on site proxy Anna, were available if we needed anything. We would, without reservation, recommend Jenny's beautiful home to anyone who would truly like to immerse themselves in the Tuscan lifestyle. We were so happy we spent every one of those 28 nights there.

Uriges Haus mit wunderschöner Aussicht

Es ist so wie es bereits viele Gäste beschrieben haben. Der Weg dorthin ist ziemlich abenteuerlich und wir haben dafür gesorgt am besten noch bei Tageslicht zum Haus zu kommen, da die Strassen wirklich sehr eng und auch etwas unübersichtlich sind. Das Haus selber liegt dann ganz oben auf dem Berg mit einer wirklich wahnsinnig schönen Aussicht! Wlan war im Obergeschoss durchgängig gut, nur im Untergeschoss oder auf der Terrasse hat es nicht gut funktioniert. Küche ist mit allem ausgestattet was man so braucht. Warum ich dennoch nur 3 Sterne vergeben habe, liegt daran, dass wir am ersten Tag keine Heizung hatten und es dort oben auf dem Berg dann nachts kalt und klamm wird. Uns wurde gesagt dass wir es vorher hätten sagen müssen, dass wir Heizung brauchen. Das hat mich verwundert, denn Anfang April versteht sich das für mich eigentlich von selbst, dass man die Option zum Heizen braucht. Leider hat es dann auch erst am zweiten Tag geklappt und am letzten Tag dann schon wieder nicht mehr. Anna, die Ansprechpartnerin vor Ort, hat zwar immer schnell über Whatsapp reagiert, doch leider hat es eben am Anfang unseres Aufenthalts trotzdem erstmal nicht geklappt. Das hat die Stimmung dann ziemlich getrübt. Heizung wurde dann auch noch extra berechnet, was ich zwar auch schon bei einem anderen Gast gelesen habe, aber das sollte meiner Meinung nach auch im Angebot nochmal klargestellt werden. Dennoch natürlich vielen Dank für alles, wir hatten eine schöne Zeit in der Toskana!

I would highly recommend Jennifer Gale's house. The location within a small hamlet and the outlook across the hills and mountains is superb. The accommodation is excellent and this is in part due to the very fine renovation the owners undertook which has retained many authentic features.

Schitterende vakantiewoning boven op een Toscaanse berg. Adembenemend uitzicht!! Wij waren zonder kinderen. Heel rustig gelegen. Kim je voor de rust, dan moet je hier zijn. Lucca op 14 km. Florence met de trein vanuit Lucca goed te doen!! Cijfer: 10

Also um dieses Haus zu erklären, muss man es gesehen und genossen haben. Ein traumhaftes gemütliches Habitat mit einem unglaublichen Charme. Wir haben die Tage jede Sekunde sehr genossen. Jeder Blickwinkel im Haus ist einmalig. Ob das Abendessen auf der Terrasse, der Blick aus der Dusche oder der Morgenkaffe im Bett. Wer die Ruhe mag, der ist hier genau richtig. Und trotzdem ist dieses Haus recht zentral gelegen um die Gegend zu erkunden. Die Kommunikation mit Jennifer war total unkompliziert. Einfach anreisen & geniessen. Wir können dieses Haus nur empfehlen & kommen gerne wieder. Alle Sterne :))) ------------------------------------------------------ So to explain this house you have to see and enjoy it. A wonderful, cozy habitat with an incredible charm. We really enjoyed every second of the days. Every point of view in the house is unique. Whether dinner on the terrace, the view from the shower or the morning coffee in bed. If you like peace and quiet, you've come to the right place. And yet this house is quite centrally located to explore the area. Communication with Jennifer was totally straightforward. Just arrive & enjoy. We can only recommend this house & would love to come back. All stars :)))

Erholsamer Urlaub

Tolles Haus, tolle Aussicht, genau wie auf den Bildern, absolut ruhige und abgelegene Lage, wer Angst vor engen Straßen hat, sollte sich die Buchung überlegen. Im Haus ist alles, was man braucht, selbst Moskitonetze und Mückenspiralen fehlen nicht, was in der Toskana abends sehr empfehlenswert ist. Wir haben die Woche sehr genossen.

Ideal für Katzenliebhaber, die eine gute Aussicht schätzen.

Wir hatten noch nicht lange die Tür des Hauses aufgeschlossen, da bekamen wir Besuch von vier Katzen. Die Überlegung: Füttern oder nicht, hatte sich rasch erledigt, da die Vierbeiner sehr gute Überzeugungskraft an den Tag legten :). Wir haben die 14 Tage in dem Haus sehr genossen, es ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt zum Wandern und ist auch gut gelegen, um von dort die Toskana mit dem Auto zu erkunden. Das Haus ist sehr einfach und rustikal eingerichtet und man sollte keine Angst vor Insekten und den vor Ort üblichen Kleintieren mitbringen.

Schönes individuelles Haus mit Allem was man braucht. Terrassenmöbel wären mal aus zu tauschen. W- Lan hat bei uns leider nur im Obergeschoss funktioniert. Verstärker wäre sinnvoll. Wir können aber das Haus wirklich nur empfehlen. Vorausgesetzt man sucht Ruhe. Die Zufahrt ist zwar eng aber geteert, was für unser Sportcabrio doch ganz gut war.
