If you’re considering booking this spot, DO IT! The property is incredibly charming, the location is prime & the breakfast is SO delectable. Had dinner at the restaurant located in the building as well which was also fantastic. Can’t recommend this spot enough, thank you John and Sandy for such a great stay!

A beautiful B & B run by a local couple who painstakingly have maintained the historic feel of the home. Each day, the chef-created breakfast was a 10/10! The award-winning French restaurant open for dinner is not to be missed!

We stayed at The Hugh for two nights in order to attend a wedding at Congress Hall. The location was absolutely perfect . . . we never had to get back in the car once we arrived and were happy that the car was safe in a monitored parking lot! We were able to walk from event to event without any issue. The breakfast menu was fabulous, the Ivory Room was just perfect, and John and Sandy were so very gracious, professional and accommodating. Thank you for making our first time in Cape May simply wonderful : )

We had an amazing stay! The breakfast was incredible, very well done & a different variety each day. The room we stayed in was clean, cozy, and cool. The owner was very pleasant and kind throughout our stay. We will be back!

This was a last minute trip planned to Cape May. The Staff took great care of us even when we arrived before the Expedia reservation was sent to hotel. John took extremely good care to get us checked in properly. Additionally; his breakfasts prepared each morning gave us energy for the day. Highly recommend.

The Hugh is lovely and the rooms are charming! Breakfast was delicious and the location is convenient. The check-in process was confusing - the owner messaged me the day before check-in and asked for my contact information to send instructions, and though I replied promptly on the app, I had to call and text several times when I arrived to get the check-in information. The parking provided is a 10 minute walk from the B&B, which created the need for a lot of coordination around luggage unloading that we had not anticipated.

Usually for most of the Bed and Breakfasts, they provide iron for their guests. However our room didn’t had any Iron to iron our clothes. Also, the bathroom didn’t had any sink to wash hands inside. Instead the sink and vanity was right next to our bed. Which was a little off for us. The place is nice and clean, and close to cape May city, and major shopping places. The breakfast was nice too.

The hugh was lovely and John was an excellent host. We enjoyed the breakfast, and the porch! The room was spacious, and we felt right at home. It felt very LGBTQ friendly. We also are at the restaurant Maison Bleue and it was the best food we had all weekend. Would recommend and would stay again.

The house is a lovely Victorian in a convenient location. The king room was spacious, the bathroom was quite small but okay. The floors throughout the house were not clean at all!! We stayed 3 nights and never had internet available. Breakfast was adequate, but we expected a little more of a presentation. We rarely saw the staff/hosts. The B&B seemed more like an Air BnB. No one to help with luggage which had to be lugged up 34 steps. No one to chat with about Cape May, or to discuss places to check out or restaurants that they thought would be good. Do not feel it was worth the high price!

We had a lovely stay at the Hugh! Sandy and John were gracious hosts, breakfast was French inspired and delicious. The rooms were clean with modern style and the staff were helpful and kind. It’s nice to also have a highly rated French restaurant inside the inn, although we didn’t dine there we will be back again. Highly recommend!

The Hugh is everything you want in a Bed and Breakfast in Cape May. The owners are engaged, on site, and approachable. The location is perfect, no need to move your car once you park. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. Breakfast is outstanding. We will be back.

This property was in the perfect location for what we were looking for. It was walkable to many restaurants and shops and close to the beach. So comfortable and the food was excellent.

The men working in the kitchen were extremely helpful and pleasant. We left on the first day of our stay. This Inn is in dire need of updating and making clear what to expect as to the arrangement, layout, and visual photos of what is available in the common areas. It was over 100 degrees on July 3, 2026 in Cape May. We counted on the lovely downstairs sitting area, as our room on the top floor was stifling even with the air cooling unit near the ceiling- which was NOT Air Conditioning. What we found were only dining tables. Misleading photos of the common areas- which directly affected our enjoyment- or led to the lack thereof- of the Hugh.

Awesome stay. Great place to stay for convenience and awesome experience. Only thing that could have been better was the bed was very soft. Other than that I would still stay here again. Great staff and hotel.
