Ghost Hotel?

Hotel was locked and shut when we arrived. No answer to door bell or phone calls. Local pub across the road told us that it had been closed for a week or two. Great customer service to not bother to tell us that they needed to cancel our reservation!

Great little find, just 25 mins from Cardiff cente

Great guest house- rooms more like major hotel chaIn. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Beware - breakfast service stops at 09:30 , so if you turn up at 09:35 like we did , there is no breakfast to be had.

Lost our reservation

This place was very difficult to find (being actually on a side road off Magor Road, not on it, and not well signed). We didn't get to stay here, as our reservation was lost. We had booked initially with another company and then cancelled and rebooked with hotels.com in January. When we arrived for our visit in May, there was no one around. I phoned a number that was listed beside the door. The man I spoke said our reservation was cancelled (it was not, I had a confirmation number.) He was kind enough to give recommendations for nearby hotels, which wasn't really a help. I was disappointed that our reservation was somehow lost.

Really nice welcome and a nice place to stay. Wifi could do with being stronger as didn't really reach my room and kept dropping out.

Beautiful Hotel

The hotel was in a great location and absolutely fantastic. We stayed there two nights. The suite we had was great and the fit out was a very high standard The staff (Margaret) were absolutely incredibly helpful and pleasant. I would highly recommend this hotel as s place to stay.

A Romantic Valentines

The staff at the Celtic Guest House is truly wonderful and romantic. They provide a lovely little breakfast and the staff are more than happy to talk to you and give you suggestions on what to do. They recommended the Golden Lion pub in Magor, which they booked for us as it is owned by the owner of the Celtic Guest House. Its a lovely pub. As it was valentines they had some little extras at the hotel, petals on the bed and bucks-fizz at breakfast.

First class small hotel

Our one night stay at this beautiful hotel started with a warm welcome by the lovely lady at reception, who gave us the history of the inn and its renovations. She also noted that we might like wine glasses and ice and so kindly got these items for us. Our room was beautifully finished and designed with high end fixtures in the bathroom. A popular restaurant/bar was located across the road.

Recommended for business travel

Std room was a little small and lacked a desk and air con (all available in the executive rooms) but the hotel staff were extremely helpful and made an area for me to work from in the breakfast room. Very warm welcome and was quite like a home from home experience.

Excellent guesthouse would highly reccomend!!!

This guest house is beautiful and very friendly staff. We stayed here for the Rod Stewart concert in Cardiff, its only 25 mins drive and was ideal. My only downside is that breakfast would have been £10 for continental (although we didn't have it)so shouldn't really complain just seemed expensive. Would highly recommend a stay here and would definitely go back :-) xx

Luxury b+b stay for families

We stayed for a mid week break as a family with two boys aged 16 and 19. Great bar/restaurant 2 mins walk away. Just off M4 motorway so easy access to Cardiff, Wye valley, Forest of Dean and south Wales. Very friendly welcome with advice on where to eat and visit too. Just stayed room only but continental breakfast was available. Luxury suite with free standing bath, shower room and seperate room with L shape bunk beds.

Nice enough, slightly overpriced

Room didn't have much space to manoeuvre, spider webs in all corners.nice place to stay,just missing a few pointers to make it excellent. Thin walls!

Comfortable and friendly

I had trouble finding it as I couldn't see any exterior signage, although it was dark and raining so there could have been something small or unlit. I then had trouble finding the front door, which is rather insignificant and not clearly a main entrance. Just a big sign over or by it saying "reception" or "way in" would help. Friendly welcome, pleasant room with high quality fittings. Bathroom basin was the major issue, a shelf-type affair only an inch or two deep and with no plug. The tap produced only a thin dribble of water. I timed it - twenty seconds to fill a glass of water! Looked very classy but wholly impractical, with no way of soaking anything, for example to rinse out a pair of tights. No soap dish in the shower. Some road noise but not excessive. On my second night there was a lot of noise from other rooms, with the sound of voices being clearly heard well into the small hours. I would happily stay again, but would look around first to see what else is available.
