The cathedral in Carlisle is well worth a visit - and on Sundays, wonderful music. The local restaurants do excellent Sunday roast lunches - you'll think you've stepped back in time if you go to church first, then Sunday lunch, with a good walk to follow. Take the children to experience what Sundays used to be.Kind regardsWarwick Hall

Unpleasant experience
Upon arrival, the owner told is that she had no reservation for our room and that the room was already given to someone else. The owner was not very friendly, helpful, or apologetic about the situation. But then, we were offered another bigger room, which we had to pay right away per CC. Then, we were shocked how old and outdated our room was: dirty and ripped items (see photo), no running warm water to take a shower, and internet was very slow and only intermittently working. After confronting the owner about this, we were told that this is to be expected at a B&B, and that this would not be a problem for her since we probably would never return to her hotel. Overall, not a very pleasant experience.

Beautiful and comfortable room. Incredible service. Delicious breakfast. Beautiful parklands/trails surrounding the property. Kids were welcome. Very nice other guests - of which, a few told us they’re repeat visitors.

Grand country life!
Loved this stay in a grand country house. The views are amazing and the country walks available are amazing. The room (suite) was enormous and well supplied. Val, owner and host, was in attendance and available. Nothing was too much trouble - plus a great breakfast!! Roll on summer!

Old fashioned traditional courtesy and comfort
We picked this hotel for location and distance from start point near Mallaig with next stop in Derby Peaks. Beautiful setting and ‘old fashioned’ traditional comfort and service, in huge grounds on the banks of the Eden. Sadly the hot water was discombobulated on the day of our stay, which we were warned of but chose to go ahead anyway. Our nice bottle of wine at dinner was taken off our bill, which was a nice gesture. Would happily have stayed longer, and would stay again. Produce from the walled garden is amazing.

Rigid rules about breakfast and dinner - must select time slot and dishes we’ll in advance. No hair conditioner was supplied. Expensive for what you get. This is a hotel that excuses it’s missteps by pretending to be a b&b. The setting and grounds are beautiful.

Beautiful grounds
Our stay here was even better than expected; we were delayed on the M6 and the owner was very accommodating including taking our dinner order over the phone We were upgraded to the River suite, which felt like we were staying in our own Georgian flat with a beautiful view - the lounge and kitchen area made for a comfortable stay and easier with our dog, it was quiet and peaceful, with a comfortable bed and lovely powerfull shower. All the meals were delicious and the public rooms had a calm, relaxed atmosphere. We went for a nice long dog walk along the river after checkout before setting off, which we'd definitely recommend during your stay.

The hotel is in a lovely setting, there is a nice walk along the river straight from the hotel. We stayed in the river suite, which was cosy with a log fire, had a pretty view and great amenities. The breakfast was delicious and staff were lovely.

Delightful self contained suite with beautiful views - perfect with a dog - able to build our own open fire if we wished - the dog welcome everywhere - lovely river walk and walled garden - delicious meal with efficient but very friendly service.

Overnight stay
Good points: Lovely building in a nice setting.The service and food were very good. Not so good: After going to check in we had to go from the main building outside to access another part of the building for our room up many steps. Not very convenient if the weather is bad or you are not good at climbing stairs! The room was very large and had a nice arrangement of flowers from the garden to make the room feel homely. Over all a very pleasant stay.

I can't argue - we don't suit anyone who has issues with stairs. But I'm pleased you liked your room - and I'm pleased you appreciated our food, which I think is exceptional. Good Points. Nice old country house with good views. Food and service is very good. Not so good if your not too keen on dogs.They are even allowed in the dining room. No lift in the property for the elderly and even had steps into the River Suite on the ground floor.Not very accesss'ible for the less mobile.

I'm afraid you're quite right - this isn't the right place for you. We're very straightforward about what we are: not good for mobility challenged because it's a listed house which can't be knocked about. And we are dog friendly. We suit our 'constituency' but we can't be all things to all people. Can I suggest you try The Crown Hotel in Wetheral, or Heads Nook Hall. Might work better for you. Lovely hotel in stunning location
Feels more like staying in a private house rather than a hotel, very relaxed with friendly, helpful staff. We had the garden suite which was very comfortable. The only negative was creaking floor boards from the room above. The gardens and walk along the river Eden are gorgeous and the food and wine list very good. We would stay there again

I'm afraid this is an old listed house which can't be changed to accommodate wheelchairs etc. We are very honest about it when anyone enquires, and we always try to recommend a good (modern) alternative with lifts etc. We do have two wet rooms, but after we had them installed, we were told our lift does not meet specification, so we can't offer them to anyone who is unable to climb the stairs. I'm not sure it's fair to take points off our listing because we are complying with the law and all the various regulations. But that's life....

Beautiful setting on the edge of the river Eden with easy access from the M6, a useful stopping place for us on our way to Scotland. We enjoyed a walk along the river before dinner (dogs are welcome at the Hall), followed by drinks in the sitting room and then had dinner in the restaurant ... very pleasant, well cooked and served.

Old listed houses can't offer the adjustments required for handicapped visitors. We're not even allowed double glazed windows, let alone carving up the interior. Can I suggest it's rather unfair to penalize our score - however slightly - for obeying the law. Perhaps you should take it up with your MP instead of she who can do nothing about it. We do in fact have two wheel chair friendly showers and a useful and servicable lift (not that we're allowed to offer it however - too old fashioned). I'm pleased you were satisfied with other aspects of your stay.

Not Covid safe
None of the staff wore masks when speaking to us or serving us. This is actually illegal (under current legislation) and made us feel very uncomfortable. We suspect none of the cleaning staff were wearing masks either so it is concerning that the pandemic does not appear to be being taken seriously. The windows in our room (the blue room) had been left open meaning a number of spiders had entered the room-I had to get rid of about ten some of which were on the bed before we went to sleep. Regardless of the age of the property, the cleaning regime should stop this. If you’re arachnophobic, this room would be a nightmare. Apart from that the setting is lovely but it’s overpriced for a 3star b&b.
