The cottage is beautiful, very clean and spacious. More luxurious than home! Our pups loved walking the country roads and exploring the woodlands. The access to the private beach was a bit rugged for the seniors in our party with mobility issues, so they didn't try, but there are more accessible beaches in the nearby towns...just a shirt drive away. Lots to do and see in the area. We were extremely pleased with how quickly our host responded to any queries, and we were taken with the welcome package of smores, popcorn, and even treats for our two Shelties. We are excited to plan anither vacation with Jennifer next year!

Great cottage for sharing a relaxing time with family and friends. Fully equipped with everything you need.Amazing view of Lake Huron. Hope the owners can fix the entrance to the beach for families with seniors to go down to the lake and enjoy the beach

Easter Getaway

Wonderful cottage full of all the amenities you could dream of! Peaceful and quiet nestled into the woods but with a wide open view of beautiful Lake Huron and fantastic sunsets! So much room for all of our 12 family members and 2 dogs, with a great games room that kept everyone as busy as they wanted to be. We would love to return one day!

Our experience at the Woodland Retreat cottage

We enjoyed the well-maintained well-equipped cottage. We got a guidebook that explained a lot about living at that cottage. Unfortunately, the heating in the basement, which was separate from the heating upstairs, did not work. Hot water for showers was a little problematic. Other than these inconveniences, we enjoyed our stay there. Communication with the owner was very good.

Wonderful Woodland Oasis

We absolutely loved our stay at the Woodland Private Retreat! What a wonderful oasis. We were greeted with the stunning view of sunny Lake Huron through magnificent west-facing windows. The house is incredibly spacious and has both a luxurious and cozy-cottage feel to it. The property is magnificent. The woodlands on both sides give a lovely degree of privacy. We often sat on the patio out back and enjoyed the singing cicadas and crickets, and several nights sat around the firepit and watched a gorgeous sunset while listening to crashing waves below us. We also loved the private path down to the beach area -- although a little steep at the start, the switchbacks make the mini trek very manageable and pleasant. The six of us ranged in ages from 56 to 83, and we all enjoyed the entire experience. My sister's Australian shepherd was in his element in this highly dog-friendly place. It was wonderful to have an array of indoor and outdoor games available for those of us who wanted to play pool, or bat a volleyball around (for example). There's so much to do and see around the area as well (e.g., we hiked, went to a winery, explored Bayfield and Goderich, went to outdoor markets). The folks from CottageStays managed our inquiries wonderfully, and it's clear they care deeply about the place and want you to have a terrific vacation. We really really did. I can't thank you enough -- both the owners and the CottageStays folks. We'd definitely like to come back!!

Our stay

What an amazing cottage. The place was clean and beautiful. Jennifer the host was so nice, she extended our stay with no hesitation. This just made our time even better. I would definitely recommend this place and we will definitely return.

Great weekend stay

This Woodland retreat was perfect for our friend group weekend away! Great location, easy access to the water, and picturesque views from the deck. The cottage itself was spacious, more than enough bedrooms, and plenty of room that we were never tripping over each other. Great communication about the accommodations well in advance of the weekend so we were never left in the dark about anything. Would definitely recommend staying here, and would love to stay here again!

Beautiful views

The cottage is very spacious, clean, well equipped and well situated. The views were spectacular, especially sunsets. There were many things to do in the area, including swimming, hiking, shopping. We would certainly return.

Great June Trip

First-timers at this site and enjoyed it so. House and setting are beautiful. Close driving to Bayfield and Goderich. Management company was very responsive.
