The following misrepresentations and problems made our stay extremely disappointing and potential guests should be advised:
1. Advertised “fenced in yard” is false - there are large missing sections of fence. We were unaware of this until our dog ran away, causing the neighbor to yell at us to keep our dog off his property.
2. Because of the missing fence, our labradoodle was locked up for most of the stay. To help entertain him, our mother-in-law brought her 6lb hypoallergenic mini bernadoodle to keep him company. The owners then charged us a full additional pet fee, even though I assured them the second dog was only visiting.
3. The “swimming beach” is totally overgrown weeds and shrubs and was completely covered with garbage and debris. It was so offensive looking we cleaned some up ourselves. The beach is not usable for safe, sanitary swimming. When I asked the owner, I was told the weeds were native plants that couldn’t be touched. However, no other neighboring properties looked like this.
4. As a safety concern, the dock and gazebo are not visible from the house due to the overgrowth.
5. No swim ladder to get on and off the dock. We discovered this after jumping off and realizing we had to swim back to shore and wade back through muck to get out.
6. Upstairs game room does not have working AC and was unusable (we visited in heat of summer.)
7. Several of the hot tub jets did not work and there was no skimmer to remove debris that comes along with having a pool or hot tub set up in grass.
8. Several lightbulbs were out with no replacements available so bedrooms were totally dark.
9. There appears to be recent construction and red mud everywhere in the backyard, with no way to avoid walking through it to get from hours to dock. We had to scrub our boat, shoes, etc. daily, as well as every time we wanted to go back inside. We had to power scrub the boat at the end.
10. The dock doesn’t have bumpers, so you need to bring your own if you have a boat.
11. Lastly, while both paddle boards and one kayak remained in the yard undisturbed well-away from the beach, the second kayak disappeared overnight. The owners charged our credit card for a brand new replacement sea kayak (due to policy, unable to list cost).
12. The rental company was made aware of our issues throughout our stay and promised to compensate us for all the inconveniences, but in the end, not only did they NOT compensate us, we’re out a extra “stolen” kayak fee.
