  • So, did you know the definition of glade is "an open space surrounded by woods"? Obviously, the owners of Blackwater Glade did! Now in that pristine open space stands a beautiful mountain chalet! Surrounded by more than 5 wooded acres, Blackwater Glade has been recently renovated in the owner’s favorite “Sundance style”. A large wrap around deck plus porches front and back provide the ideal setting for nature lovers of every age. The fantastic location offers easy opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing and more. It is just a short drive to beautiful Canaan Valley State Park, Blackwater Falls and the slopes at Timberline Mountain. Fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, WIFI, outdoor hot tub…just a few of the many reasons Blackwater Glade is the perfect space for your next vacation.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved this cabin as there were 4 bathrooms as well as 4 bedrooms. The gas fireplace was really nice as was the location and cleanliness of the hot tub and the fire pit.

Far exceeds other properties in the area in terms of overall quality. The hot tub was a definite bonus. Our family will definitely return to this property.

Property was beautiful and house had a great layout. Very close to the ski resort. Cleanliness was an issue. Very dusty with dead flies in all rooms. Rugs need to be cleaned.

Lighting could have better. and a deep overall cleaning would be nice. Overall it was very convenient in location and immediate surroundings. The Best of Canaan management personal were great when needed.

The jacuzzi out side on the deck was a hit! Very relaxing atmosphere. We have been coming to West Virginia for many years and had many rentals and we enjoyed this one the most! We had a couple minor issues and best of Canaan were on it immediately, will definitely rent from them again.

We have had some not so great rental experiences with other companies but Best of Canaan is truly the best. We have stayed in multiple houses and each one has been wonderful. The staff has always been attentive to any issue that comes up and makes check in and out easy and stress free. I can’t recommend them enough!

Best Place I've Stayed In Canaan

The walking trails were an added perk that me and the dog really enjoyed. The staff at Best of Canaan are always great and friendly to work with. Totally different than our experience with that jerk Matt over at Mountain Top Reality.

Everything was great but the Internet was horrible and a family member who had to work and needed internet to work. We also love to watch movies as a family and the internet failed us. It was slower than slow.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Place was wonderful!Timberline mountain was a short drive away and I learned to ski for the first time. House was clean and as advertised.Only knock would be the gas fireplace inside smelled of gas when you used it. So, we didn't use it and notified the rental company. Hopefully that is fixed for future renters! It was a bummer to not be able to use the fire place! Everything else was fantastic.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: A beautiful property and we love the location in Timberline. Each bedroom has own bathroom. We did experience a strong dead animal odor in one bedroom making it unusable. When contacting Best of Canaan they send someone to check it out but couldn’t find the source. They said they’d follow up but they did not and the smell got much worse. This was very disappointing as we wanted to use all of the bedrooms. We followed up with Best of Canaan about this but no response. ANice house but a few maintenance issues.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was nice, set away from the road and with lots of outdoor space for our dog to run around. There is an adorable loop trail in the back of the property and a couple of Adirondack chairs where one can sit quietly and drink their coffee. The Best of Canaan team was very responsive and was able to address some of the questions/ issues we had within a day (helping us figure out how to start the fireplace). The internet speed was pretty slow (5 Mbps rather than 50 Mbps) and restarting the modem/ router did not help. All in all it was a positive experience.

The screen had a hole in it. We tried to fix it but we couldn't. There was also a pair of men's underwear left on one of the beds but we just threw them away

Cabin experience

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall the cabin it's self was fine . The issues were with the rental company failing to maintain the property. The heat was set on 50 degrees when we arrived, the baseboard heater in the living room was not working due to a breaker being off. The mechanism inside the gas fireplace needed batteries replaced and we had to turn the hot water tank on. In addition the hot tub was in poor condition and was not used . According to Diane from Best of Canaan the hot tub was stained due to the sediment in the water , which is why it's called Blackwater . The issues with this explanation is that 1) the residue came off on my hands, 2) this is the only hottub in this community ( Timberline ) that I've seen in this condition 3) Blackwater is called such due to tannic acid from hemlock and spruce needles, giving the water it's hue. I was refunded 100 dollars for the hot tub fee . After visiting canaan for the last 8 years , I've never experienced such issues or unapologetic response .

A little family get away

Cozy cabin

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our family stayed here recently for several days for a mini-reunion. For us, the location was perfect. It was so quiet and peaceful with plenty of outdoor space to walk, explore, and enjoy. We also appreciated that the owner allows dogs there,too. The floor plan was one big reason for us to book this property ....4 bedrooms each with its own bathroom...no one had to share!!The cabin was beautifully decorated; we felt very cozy and relaxed.While the kitchen was well equipped and there was a new dishwasher, we have to say that the lighting is, unfortunately, terrible!!. We did a lot of cooking and had to bring in a floor lamp and desk lamps to be able to see properly. It would also be nice if the many wall switches in the kitchen and great room were labeled as to what they control. There were no directions for the great room ceiling fan but we finally figured it out. Overall though, this is a very nice place and I am sure many visitors would enjoy it.

Very nice home and stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was great. 4 bedrooms & 4 baths. I only saw 1 small spider in the house, and I am always on the lookout for them. The only real issue I had was there is not good lighting in the kitchen. I had to get a floor lamp from one of the bedrooms and put it on the kitchen counter. They attempted to add a couple small ones for the countertop but they did not shine properly how you would need them. They could use a larger broom as the decks are huge and need swept off from the trees. The grill is very easy to use as it is hooked up to a gas line. No need to worry about the propane tank. We did buy WD-40 to fix the squeaky front door and tape to fix the screen door as the weather was 75 degrees and we could open and air out the house. Which is no problem for us as we always leave our rental homes in better condition than we find them. It was a really nice home, all the bathrooms were updated. we would stay there again.
