Viaje familiar con niños
Not being familiar with the area, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the neighborhood. During a busy weekend with a local tournament, many accommodations were already booked, so I reserved this apartment. When I arrived, I realized the property felt less secure than I had expected from the listing, which made me somewhat uncomfortable. The building is listed as non-smoking, but there was a strong marijuana odor in the hallway during the first evening. The second night it became more noticeable, and I contacted the host, who responded promptly and addressed the issue. The bedroom blinds were damaged and there were no curtains, which allowed a lot of outside light into the room at night and made privacy feel limited. The windows and blinds also appeared quite dirty. Temperature control was difficult. The building is older and there wasn’t a way to adjust the heat. Two fan/AC units were provided, but they were very noisy and didn’t cool the room effectively. I was also surprised to find opened food items left in the cupboards as well as partially used toiletries in the bathroom, which I personally prefer not to see in guest accommodations. On the positive side, the area itself was quiet and the location made it convenient to reach the places we planned to visit. Overall, it simply wasn’t the right fit for my preferences.

The location was great and the apartment was very clean. However, the portable AC units are not sufficient to cool the entire apartment. So if you are traveling during the summer when temperatures are in to high 90's, prepare to be uncomfortable. The "shower" is a handheld in the bathtub. While charming, not very efficient. Overall, it worked as a place to sleep, but we won't use it again.

Our host Steve was great. He was responsive to questions and very nice. The apartment was clean and in a wonderful little neighborhood that is within a short driving distance to all that Des Moines has to offer. Self check in and check out was a breeze. The apartment is stocked with all items that you may need. The building is very old so it doesn’t have central air, but each bedroom has a portable air conditioner which makes for comfortable nights sleep, but the main living area can get a little toasty on those hot summer days. I would have liked a few more wash clothes and towels in the bathroom since there were four of us there for two days. The bathroom has an old claw foot tub with a hand held shower, so that was a little difficult to use. All in all I would definitely stay there again.

Great location; great kitchen; comfortable beds; but the property was not exactly what we were expecting mainly because of three things. We were initially hit with an odor when we opened the door which did dissipate with the use of the air conditioners. The air conditioners were portable and made a very loud noise. This did not bother us, but if you like a quiet bedroom it definitely would. Lastly was the bathroom. It contained a claw foot tub with a hand held shower. My preference would be a regular shower. And the tub was very high which made getting in and out a bit precarious for this 70 year-old woman. Our stay was satisfactory but I’m not sure we would stay there again.

Charming neighborhood

We had a good stay while here. The neighborhood is very charming to walk around. The hosts are great and responsive! Very close and walkable to many attractions, restaurants, grocery, etc. The only reason not 5 stars is because we did have some noisy neighbors in the alleyway at 3am, but that's not really in the host's control!

Great location and affordable

We wanted a quick getaway to see a show at Hoyt Sherman and visit our favorite brewery, Lua for dinner and drinks and this couldn’t have been a more perfect location at an affordable rate! So many great places nearby and nice to be able to walk and not worry about parking for the show. Highly recommend for a small group wanting to take in Sherman Hill area.

I only stayed 1 night for work travel. Had a little trouble accessing key to the unit but host was responsive and helpful. Showered and slept comfortably. No complaints and will likely be back.

Perfect little place

Steve was an attentive host communicating both by email and text which I really appreciated. We knew we’d be cooking a good amount and loved the gas stove!! Pretty and quiet neighborhood was a plus. Would stay there again if in Des Moines.

This is the 2nd time staying at this property. Nice 2br apt that's only a 3min walk to Hoyt Sherman Place located in the Sherman Hill district of Des Moines. There was a problem with one of the beds but they resolved it and moved us to another apts. We will defiantly stay again.

Weekend in DesMoines

The apartment was very nice and located in an area within walking distance to restaurants. Host was ALWAYS very responsive to our questions. Lots of "to do" info included in the apartment. Parking was always available as well. Nice place to stay.

Beautiful Neighborhood, Very Walkable, great Location

Good, basic accommodations in a historic neighborhood and walking distance to restaurants, bars, microbreweries, and the amazing Hoyt Sherman Mansion/music venue. Very clean apartment. The host was exceptional in communicating with me.

Great Downtown Location
