I placed booking on 11/29, to get a good nights sleep with my boyfriend after a 5hr drive from Chicago. Booked same day. The rate and reviews seemed good enough to confidently book the room. After arriving, wtg 5 min to be attended as there was no one standing at front desk and checking in at about 1130pm, we gladly walked our many belongings to our assigned room. Unfortunately, after just opening the door, there was an immediate foul smell. As if the refrigerator was broken, just not pleasant at all. The room looked nice from the few steps from door, but the smell was unbearable.
We immediately walked back with our belongings to notify the front desk attendant of the smell and if she could possibly switch us to another room. I didnt think it would be an issue. Given the parking lot was pretty empty and you know...good customer service goes a long way. We were in no way rude when we approached. In fact we felt bad that we had to even ask for a different room, but the smell was just too much. We even asked her to visit the room to verify, she would not and stated she could not leave the front desk. Yet, she wasn't even present at front desk for our arrival. The room was just down the hall. She proceeded to then state she "could not just change or switch the room for a bad smell, the room is still habitable". We would have to keep the room and talk to the manager in the morning. We asked her if there was anything else she could do, she said no. We left and booked another hotel
