Beautiful pet friendly lodge in a quaint fishing village and sleeps 16

  • This spacious charming lodge is located in Engelhard. Boasting five bedrooms and two baths, this house could easily accommodate two families or a large group. We are pet friendly. Renters are responsible for any pet damage. There is a beautiful farm across from the lodge that has black Angus cows, horses and a small pond.

    Pamlico Sound is just down the street. Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge (full of trails suited for hiking or biking) and Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge are both just a few miles away. The beaches of the OBX are 45 minutes away, including Kitty Hawk, NC Aquarium @ Manteo, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jennette's Fishing Pier, and The Lost Colony. Historic Bath is an hour away where you can learn more about Black Beard. Swan Quarter National Wildlife Refuge is 30 minutes away. Pungo National Wildlife Refuge is about 45 minutes. Eco Tours are available at neighboring townships. Charter boats and hunting guides are for hire in the area. Numerous State of North Carolina Game Lands surround the area.

We absolutely loved our stay. The property owners were fantastic and treated us like family. We were able to interact with the animals, chatted with property owners, explored. We absolutely loved our stay!

Home away from home

Great spot to just get away in the country. Quiet, small town that has lots of little fishing holes and excellent crabbing. Just a hours drive into town and beaches.

Wonderful House centrally located

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. It was close to Mattamuskeet for winter waterfowl viewing and not too far from the Outer Banks, Pungo Lake or Phelps Lake. The house was roomy and comfortable with a nice big kitchen and common areas and comfortable beds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Perfect clean home for your ENC getaway

We came down for a hunting trip and this property was great. Great area in Engelhard, ample beds, spotless on the inside, fully equipped kitchen and so much more. The owners made us feel at home and communication was great with some spot on recommendations.

Nice for a large group, We had plenty of room for our family of 7. The house was clean and comfy. Roanoke island/Nags Head is about an hour away. The plus side to that is that it’s very quiet with no traffic congestion. The negative is that larger grocery stores are a bit of a drive.

Relax and Recharge

The Gibbs lodge was a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the real world. Although it was a little more remote than we had anticipated, the amount of things to do in the Hyde county area was immense. The Gibbs family has quite a history in the area and they welcomed us with open arms. Great place to stay and relax.

My family and I enjoyed staying here. We were able to visit many things in the OBX from here. The house was big enough for 11 of us and2 dogs. The owners love animals as there are chickens, horses and cows that come with this place.

Quaint Homey & Everything We Needed!

Clean, well-maintained, a great house with all the extras of home! Friendly helpful owners. Quaint, quiet, rural area. Other than being a bit far from OBX beaches, our stay was great. Kids loved the horses and chickens, and everyone was excited to see bears on our way to and from the OBX! We will definately remember this stay!

Affordable, well-planned rental for a larger group

We stayed for five days in the summer, with our son and daughter-in-law and their two school-age children (and our dogs). During that time, we also had our other two other sons visit. One spent a day with us, and the other spent a night also. We visited the Outer Banks on two days and explored nearby outdoor activities on the others. We enjoyed the great sky views and seeing the nearby farm and boat areas.

Comfortable and spacious

Our family of six (teenage kids) enjoyed the large kitchen and spacious bedrooms. We planned this vacation last minute and there was nothing affordable on the outer banks. We stayed here and then drove to the outer banks beaches by day and rode our bikes and fished around Englehard by night & early morning. The drive to the Outer banks is peaceful and took about 45-60 min (depending). During the drive we saw quite a bit of wild life including a black bear cub, ospreys and a vast expanse of southern pine swamp forest. Englehard, being a working fishing town, has several picturesque places to ride a bike near. We went fishing on the doc near their big fishing/crabbing boats. It seems like a family-focused town and we appreciate the humble and hard-working background of the residents of this interesting town. The owners were very accommodating and communicative. They even offered us some of their early morning fish catch. We were the annoying renters who left all of our bike helmets behind accidentally, and they mailed it to us right away. Finally, being able to have our aging dog with us was a big plus.

This little country lodge was a home away from home. It was very clean and well kept. Enjoyed stay.

No issues renting this property. The owners answered every question and were always assessable.

Vacation to NC

In a quiet and safe neighborhood. The house within had lot of rooms and beds, easily sleep 12 to 14 people. On arrival the place was easily accessed and was neat and clean. The owner Caroline came immediately once we arrived. We understand she stays in that neighborhood. She was very informative and helpful throughout the stay. Caroline saw that our stay was comfortable. We could frankly ask her if we needed any supplies or information. Also, there was a listed information of the local stores and the sightseeing places and activities. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, kitchen wares and spices. All the appliances were in good running condition but of older model. The barbeque coal grill was rusted due to the elements since it was chained outside. We enjoyed the sunrise & sunsets which were very beautiful. Went cycling around the community since not much traffic. The outer banks are an hour drive. One night we enjoyed the campfire even though there was a lot of mosquitoes. So be prepared with insect repellent. Overall, both of our families were very much satisfied of the stay. Hoped we stayed a bit longer.

House was perfect!

House accommodated 2 families easily with room and seating for everyone. House was clean, plenty of towels and kitchen was well equipped. The drive to Nags Head was not bad (we did this 5 days in a row), and everyone we met in town was super friendly. Thank you Caroline and Greg!!

Engelhard Family Reunion

We had an amazing family reunion with our 5 children, their spouses/significant others, and our 4 grandchildren. The home was lovely and felt very "homelike." One of my grandchildren even said, "I keep forgetting we don't just live here." There were inside and outside games; plus a wide variety of viewing options on the smart TV. We enjoyed the large yard, fire pit, and bbq grill. Our hosts were amazing! So welcoming and kind with homemade monkey bread for our first breakfast and giving us so many good tips for things we could go and do and see. I can't say enough good things about our stay.
