- Estes Park License # 6116. Welcome to a very private updated mountain cabin on the rivers edge (located on private .8 acre). Hear the roar of the river and watch water splash on the boulders. Enjoy fishing for wild trout on 182 feet of private Big Thompson River running through the property. This is an older cabin with a lot of character with a portion built in the 1930's. We are continually upgrading the cabin. Every one who has stayed at the cabin loves its charm.
Relax under large shaded Pine Trees on a manicured lawn while viewing the stream and tree covered mountains. Elk and other wildlife will frequently be roaming in the yard in the evening or early morning. Bring the camera and camcorder to take pictures of the Elk.
Easy access to Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Shopping and restaurants are available as downtown Estes Park is less than 1/2 mile. Several shops and restaurants are within walking distance. The South entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is within one mile.
We have updated the bathrooms like you see on "Home Makeover". The old cabin has some of its charm left when constructed in about 1940 plus the upgrades we have made over the years. We have owned the cabin since 2004

Previously, we’ve stayed here earlier in the spring but this year we enjoyed the warmer summer month and the house and views still didn’t disappoint. This was the first year we didn’t see elk in the backyard but did welcome a couple deer who joined us from across the river. We also enjoyed hide and seek with the low altitude marmot who also seems to rent space near the property. This house, kitchen, bedrooms and views just work for our extended family which keeps bringing us back.

Loved the river and closeness to activities
My family had a fantastic stay! The river being right outside the house made for lovely mornings with coffee and a book, and evenings with a glass of wine. We were close to downtown Estes Park and several good restaurants.

Absolutely amazing stay! The property is beautiful with peaceful grounds and so much wildlife to enjoy. The front window overlooking the river was my favorite part of the home, I sat there with my coffee every morning and loved every minute of it. Truly gorgeous, relaxing, and unforgettable. I can’t wait to come back!

This was our 2nd stay at Wendal's and it was just as great as last time (in 2020). Everything is clean with lots of extra linens and towels if needed. The kitchen is fully stocked to cook whatever you want, but if eating out is your thing, it's located near lots of restaurants and downtown is just a short drive. We got to see so many Elk throughout the week and the marmot who lives under the deck (who my children named Matthew) got himself a wife (who we names Martha) this time! Seeing them frequently throughout the week was definitely a highlight! We fished at the river on the property the last couple days and my daughter caught 3 rainbow trout! We love getting to listen to the river with the windows open each evening. Truly a great place to have an amazing family vacation. Definitely a 10/10. We can't wait to come back!

Beautiful clean property with great location-easy access to RMNP and downtown. Recommend Coffee on the Rocks which is within walking distance of the house.

My friends and I stayed here to be close to Rocky Mountain nation park. We didn’t expect to spend too much time at the vrbo, but hanging out next to the river after a long day was the best part of the trip! Our host was great as well!

Gorgeous spot on the river!
This was the perfect spot for our family of 4! Convenient location right in the middle of town and with a lot of river frontage. We had as many meals as possible outside and saw tons of wildlife. The house was set up with everything we needed. We would absolutely stay here again!
