Summer getaway
A lively, rustic cabin- exactly as it’s advertised. My husband and two dogs loved it. Read the amenities so you aren’t surprised. No AC, wi-fi, or washer/dryer . Regardless, the beds are comfy, design is fabulous and the grounds are beautiful. We would rent again for sure!

Lovely cabin
Enjoyed our stay at the cabin, it had everything we needed, a short walk to the beach and a playground. Indoor shower didn’t have great water pressure, but the outdoor shower worked great. Issue with hot water during our stay was promptly resolved. Very unique property, we enjoyed the privacy, saw many deer from the cabin.

Very isolated and charming rustic cabin that needs lots of work to be highly marketable in VRBO portfolio. The sound of the freeway rumble nearby intercepts any serenity experience and the quietness of nature. Many outside tree lights were burned out in particular the light at front stair entrance. Rotten stairs at drive up need replacement. We experienced both inside and outside showers noting that the flow from shower head is weak because of rusted spray jets. Bed in outside sleeping room has a mattress weakly supported by the seat of a very small child’s chair. A heavy person causes the entire bed to seesaw. Unable to get TV to work by following directions provided. It would be nice if a map was provided for locating light switches, towels, silverware. The step from outside patio into kitchen is higher than normal and caused a member of the party to trip and fall. That rise should have a posted caution. Kindling wood was not stacked for welcoming use at either the inside or outside fireplace. Could not find the umbrellas. Are they provided? Trails are over rated and don’t lead to the beach. A novice could become lost in the woods quickly because of overgrowth and trail abruptly stopping. Actually enjoyed our stay with relatives who are conditioned to clamping.

Honestly, this comes as a bit of a shock since your text you sent the morning you left said that you "Had a most comfortable and relaxed visit deep in the woods. Thanks for opening your cabin to us." Either way, we certainly appreciate the feedback as we are always looking for ways to improve the cabin - your recommendations are appreciated, duly noted and we are already scheduling repairs/fixes. However, the shower head and light bulb situations are something that could and would have been addressed immediately (there are extra light bulbs on the shelf in the kitchen) during your stay if it would have been brought to my attention. Though unfortunate, the sound from the freeway is something that the many hundreds of vacation rentals located near Lake Michigan have had to deal with since 1952 when the freeway was built. We accommodate our guests by supplying free firewood - we believe the campfire setting is one of the best assets of Fern Hollow. The storage spot selected, approximately 50' away is under a canopy of trees which helps keep the wood dry. We are very sorry to hear that a group member fell because of the step into the cabin - there was an additional step in between but we had requests from multiple guests to remove it as it was more of an unnecessary obstacle. Thank you again for the suggestions, I only wish you had contacted me directly during your stay so we could have better accommodated you. It sounds like the other guests enjoyed the charm and rustic feel of Fern Hollow.

Rustic retreat
We had an amazing time at this lovely rustic retreat. We spent so much time just enjoying the property. It was easy access to all the things we wanted to do on our vacation. We loved having so much nature around us♥️

Beautiful property!
I enjoyed staying in this cabin, with it's beautiful trees. Very peaceful. Also, close to hiking, shopping, or just walking on the beach. Beds were comfortable, enjoyed the screened porch, loved walking the dogs in the woods on the property, and owners very responsive and accommodating with your questions. We loved it!

Fern Hollow was an excellent retreat.
What an amazing and very private property! This place has a lot of space to explore the woods and really hang out with your friends and family. It also was a short walk to the beach if you want a completely different change of scenery. My friends and I hung out mostly around the fire at night and they were quick to respond about additional firewood when needed. The pictures online are hard to tell on sleeping arrangements but they were pretty separate and all had doors to close for privacy if/when needed. The beds were also very comfortable and allowed for a great night sleep. I went with my friends this time but would absolutely take my family back here to stay again.

Lovely cabin in the woods
I stayed here with my mother, aunt, sisters and cousins. It was a perfect ladies weekend in a perfect cozy cabin. The property is beautiful and the cabin is quaint and comfortable. We enjoyed walking the property and to the lake. We spent an afternoon shopping in Saugatuck and returned to the cabin for wine and a campfire after dinner.

Perfect for our family of 8
Loved the property and the outdoor spaces—fire ring, trails, and beautiful trees. Our dog learned how to let himself in and out of the cabin doors and roamed freely in the woods. The cabin is rustic as expected. Short walk to the beach. Beds were comfy and clean and we had plenty of towels, etc. Our request to manager for additional firewood (we had a fire every night) was promptly answered. Brink lots of bug spray.

Perfect fall retreat
Fern Hollow is located in the most beautiful setting. It was a great opportunity to step back in time and enjoy the beauty of nature. We enjoyed the fire pit, roasted marshmallows, and walked our dogs on the wooded trails to the lake. I highly recommend Fern Hollow for a lovely fall getaway.

Nice family get away
It was nice n cozy. Except wouldn't recommend staying in the hut outside its cold n blows circuts trying to heat it. Definitely a spring summer rental. Seems smaller than the pictures. Couches were uncomfortable not enough indoor seating. Bunk bed steps are not supported my daughter fell into the window we didn't use it after that. Porch which was too cold this time of year to enjoy looked like it would be perfect for family time. All around beautiful property. It did have a grill to use which wasn't mentioned.

Family Fun!
We were able to drive to many site seeing sights within 15-20 minutes from cottage. Enjoyed bonfires and cooking family dinners. Walking distance to parks and lake:) Sitting on porch and playing games?

Family camp experience
First timers! Kids loved the woods and trails. Gorgeous woods. Got immediate response for issues. I have a higher standard for cleanliness. Cooler weather that week and fire wood was replenished as needed!!

It was a great property. No WiFi but the landscape and nature views were very good. The inside of the property is decent but I wouldn’t stay with more than 5 because it’s not that big. Great time tho

Lovely vacation at Fern Hollow
Fabulous time was had by the entire family at Fern Hollow. Location was beautiful! We had plenty of space and beds were very comfortable. I especially loved the outdoor shower. The only downside was the beach erosion making it difficult to get to the beach but we made due. We all agreed that we would definitely vacation at Fern Hollow again.

3rd Times a Charm!
This was our third time staying at Fern Hallow and we had a great time again. We loving coming back to this peaceful cabin every year. Plenty of room for our family of 5 and we love exploring during the day and coming back for dinner and smores at the firepit. Our dog loves the property as well!

Lovely time @ Fern Hollow!
We had the best weekend at Fern Hollow! The cabin was idyllic for a weekend getaway; it had all of the amenities and all of the charm. The beds were comfy, the outdoor shower was amazing as was the wrap around porch, and we spent each evening gathered around the fire pit. It felt like the best of a summer beach vacation and a fall weekend in the woods. The location was ideal, too. We were a short walk from the beach and a close drive to places such as Saugatuck, Crane's Pie Pantry, Salt of the Earth, and Virtue Cider. I would highly recommend this place to anyone - it's so magical and we can't wait to come back again!

wooded paradise
this is our second trip to return to this idyllic little cottage set back in the woods so you feel like you're so far away a secluded enchanted wood yet its tucked back into a little neighborhood just off lakeshore drive. We can't wait to return again in the future, it may be my dog's favorite place on this earth

Quiet and private
This cabin was great for our family getaway. Our teens were at first bummed that there was no Wi-if, but it was great for old fashioned family time: card games, camp fires, and running the dog through the woods. We felt so far from civilization and yet we were a short drive from interesting food, drink, and dunes.

Incredibly relaxing Cabin, Spectacular Trip
My wife and I rented this cabin for two nights for our anniversary. Upon walking in the front door we instantly fell in love. A short time later we had a fire roaring in the fireplace and were enjoying the laid back atmosphere with our dog. It rained for a significant portion of the weekend and that did not put a damper on the trip at all. There is a large screen TV mounted above the fireplace so we had something to watch and we were able to enjoy the sound of the rain pounding on the roof through the trees. The beds are comfortable and soft. there is a rustic little stove that is great to cook breakfast on in the morning. The wraparound porch is adorable, though due to the cold we did not get to use it as much as we would have liked. I highly recommend for a relaxing getaway with a partner or friends.

Rustic cabin for nature lovers
This cabin is pretty much as described. Located on a wooded lot and about an 1/8 th of a mile from West County Park and beach. We arrived to a rustic cabin, that was clean. The wrap around screened in porch is lovely. Everything’s provided in the kitchen though it is tiny. Towels and bedding are also provided. There isn’t AC but our week was cool and we used the heat (which worked well). Ali was accommodating before and after our stay. Bird watchers, wildlife watchers, and asylum seekers will find this place right up their alley. Just some minor downsides. Bath is very very small. No space for bathroom articles, or hooks to hang wet towels. Lighting is poor, with many lights just not working. Definitely need an upgrade there(especially for older eyes). Not sure how ten people would fit. I would say 5 max.

Great Rustic "Camp-Like" Cottage in the Woods
We LOVED this property! It’s just RUSTIC, fun, beautifully designed and VERY unique! A true Michigan experience “adult camp”:) It has LOTS of great outdoor and screened-in spaces, and the walk to the nearby public beach was easy and a delight walking through the woods. We watched the sunset every night! Park is also quite nice. It is a great location equidistant from Saugatuck, Douglas and Fennville and very quiet and peaceful. Our only comments were the following: - It was missing some light bulbs in some of the lamps/lights or a couple of lights didn’t work -Could probably use more hooks throughout as there are no dressers (you pretty much live out of your suitcase--part of its charm) - Could use a small floor mat inside entry to cut down on tracking in sandy dirt from outside (especially if you bring a dog or children) - Needs a good tea kettle for serious tea drinkers who don’t like to microwave:) - We didn’t think it would be comfortable to have 10 people, even though I think it lists that it can technically sleep 9-10. The cottage is small, so may depend on the group and who needs to be able to get up and use the bathroom in the night!!! Our group had 5 adults and was comfortable. - Kitchen is doable and cute, but also small with limited work space if you love to cook in and stay home. It’s pretty well equipped:) It does have a really nice grill. - Table space is limited to a 4-top on porch and a standard size picnic table outside (just a heads up depending on how large your group is and if you plan to have large dinners) HomeAway management and home-owners were very friendly, accessible and responsive (had one small issue with stove that they addressed:) Overall, would definitely recommend this property to others!!!

Pure Michigan vacation for 11!
We did it -- 2 parents, 8 kids, and a mother-in-law! We loved our time at Fern Hollow. We made it work -- we all had comfortable beds to sleep in (2 babies in pack-n-plays that we brought), we shared that 1 bathroom (efficient!), and we used the picnic table and all chairs outside for meals. The bedrooms are walled off for privacy, but they are open to each other at the ceiling, so it was helpful to have fans to help provide white noise (there was at least one box fan there, but we brought a few of our own). Our teens loved having the sleeping pavilion to themselves, and our little girls loved the bunk beds. While it was challenging with so many little kids, we were grateful for no TV to actually unplug as a family for a week. The screen porch was fantastic, and the outdoor shower was a hit. The forest looked like something out of a movie (our kids pretended it was Endor from Star Wars), and we walked to the beach at least 2-3 times a day. The playground at the county park was fantastic for our kids as well. Another reviewer mentioned the charm of the cabin being straight out of Pinterest and we agree -- photo ops from every angle. Fern Hollow was the absolute perfect location -- short drive to either Saugatuck and Douglas or down to South Haven, and the proximity to the lake and county park was perfect. We caught the sunset every night from the boardwalk. Salt of the Earth in Fennville is a MUST VISIT restaurant. Thank you so much for letting us stay -- we hope to come back again sometime!

It's a nice place but smaller than appears...
We liked the property, the owners / rental agent, the setting. Lots of character have gone into it. That said, should be clear this is a "cottage" not a home. And although you can find places for 8-10 people to sleep you will have some logistics issues around cooking and bathroom access. The kitchen is really "kitchenette". There is one "half bath". There is no real convenient place for a common meal for more than 4 or so people. And some of the beds are in pretty constrained places. Overall recommend it, just don't plan on more than 4-6 staying here in a practical sense.

A great place to get away!
We booked this property for a bachelor party thinking it would be a "summer camp" feel, and boy were we right. Bunk beds, a bunk house, a fire pit, nature trials, it had everything we were looking for. We very much enjoyed the character and charm of the property, and appreciated that the "little things" were well taken care of. This is an excellent property, we would definitely stay again!

Perfect Cabin Retreat!
The place is perfect! The cabin is charming and there are just enough amenities where you're not "roughing it." The property is tucked back in the woods where you can't see any neighbors, and you're only a 10-minute walk to Lake Michigan. Ali is a great hostess, quick to reply, and goes out of the way to make the visit special. Definitely recommended.
