On arrival at Anchor Bay House, our first impressions were very good. It appeared to have everything we needed for our holiday. However, our opinion changed when we began looking around in more detail and found:
Dirty cereal bowls in the cupboard
Air fryer had not been cleaned and was full of fat
Dirty oven
Only half the toaster worked
Floor not swept under the leather chair
TV stand covered in dust
One bathroom did not have a bath mat so when you had a shower, the water went everywhere, we compromised by putting down a hand towel
The attachment for the window blind had come away from the wall
There were other small things that made the whole place feel a bit unloved and in need of a good overall check.
I did report all of these things in an email, along with questions about the heating and gas hob but I never got a reply so we just got on with it.
On a positive note, it's in a great location, close to the leisure centre, chemist, tennis courts and pubs.
The house is spacious, with great outdoor seating areas, ideal on warm days for eating outside. We did enjoy our stay, despite the lack of general cleanliness and attention to detail and I would recommend to others because none of the issues were major, it was just disappointing that things hadn't been checked.
We were told that we had booked direct with the owner and NOT to check in with reception on arrival. This is the only reason I didn't report the issues to reception, perhaps in hindsight I should have instead of the email.
