  • "Yin and Yang" I was at Cape Hatteras last month to try and capture a sight of one of our heavenly visitors in the night sky - Comet Catalina. The comet is somewhat unique since this would be it's only ever visit to the inner Solar System before being ejected to interstellar space forever. It was by no means an easy target to locate and photograph in the night sky especially for someone who's never done that before. But this is not about my attempts at capturing Comet Catalina (although I did manage to view and capture it). After I was done looking at the comet, I settled by the beach next to this pier, one of my favorite places on the North Carolina Outerbanks, to hear the ocean's mesmerizing soundtrack. I still had about 2 hours to go before sunrise and so I was just sitting and enjoying the unseasonably warm winter in December and just looking at the stars, Venus, Jupiter and Mars in the night sky. I suddenly noticed this big cloud about 5 minutes in streaking just below bright Venus. On a hunch, I decided to capture an image to see what the cloud looked like and a short 15 second later, I saw the start of what turned out to be one of the most perfect sunrises I have borne witness to. The cloud had started to just pick up the first rays from the sun, with about an hour and a half to go before sunrise. I love the juxtaposition of every single element in this image. The fading of the night sky and stars with Venus shining valiantly as the sun comes back to herald the start of another day, the stretch of unbroken cloud over the hurricane damaged pier and the sheer beauty created in an otherwise damaging act of Mother Nature (the hurricane, not the sunrise :) ). This duality is what inspired the title of the image. If you're near the NC coast, this location is a must stop. It is close to the town of Buxton and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Fantastic Stay!

Our family really enjoyed our stay at this property. Great location right on the sound and maybe a 5 minute walk to the beach. The views on the decks facing the sound are breath taking. Spacious house for our family of 5 and nicely equipped. Our only complaint would be some of the smaller details are lacking and should be addressed (less than half the jets working on the hot tub, headrests missing from hot tub, cover on hot tub is old and tattered, and beds are very firm). Fixing some of these smaller items would really take this place up a notch, but despite that, still very much recommend!

Beautiful accomodations

Great place to stay. The kitchen and views were amazing. However, when they say 250 mBps, and it's 40???? Also, the grill was disgusting and needs to be thrown out. It couldn't be used. So I went up to use the broiler on the stove. It didn't work. Dishwasher was broken until the day before we left. Called the property manager about the wi-fi and they said they'd get right on it. One call to Spectrum could have fixed it. But nothing. I would highly recommend the place if it was with a different property manager.

Stunning view

We absolutely loved staying on the sound side of the Outer Banks instead big ocean side. The windows gave us an unparalleled view, watching the windsurfers, the birds and the sunsets. It was so peaceful. We even enjoyed our one day of rain. There was a comfortable big chair in the window I sat in and viewed it all We kayaked on the sound everyday. The walk to the beach was easy. We also enjoyed playing ping pong. Highly recommend. The only improvement I could recommend is more heavy duty curtains in the master bedroom, the sun rises early and it was bright, stunning view from the windows though!

Get-a-way with friends for rest and relaxation!

Great view! Comfortable! Well stocked! Excellent place to rest and relax, especially in the winter. Loved the hot tub. Need better sign at end of driveway as we had trouble finding it in the dark and the driveway was flooded.

Very Nice Rental

Very nice rental. Location was great and the kitchen was well well equipped. Communication with the rental agency was very good. The only minor complaints were that there wasn't enough kitchen cleaning supplies and the grill was not working. Would rent again.

Beautiful house

We stayed at this property and everything was great we got there and the hot tub was not right they actually came to us and told us and had it fixed the very next morning!! The house had everything we needed and cabinets were labeled with all of their belongings for easy cleanup we knew exactly where everything went! Beds we super comfortable as well.

Short Fam Vaca

The house was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the house and the hot tub my grandson even went fishing on the sound. The beach access was easy to navigate. All in all it was an amazing getaway and property.
