We can’t say enough about our stay with Joanie and Petunia! Joanie is an amazing host! She doted on us like we were family. She went above and beyond to accommodate my food allergies. She entertained us with stories from her life’s journey. She was just a text away if we needed anything. Her home is beautiful! We can’t wait to stay there again! Thank you Joanie for a great few day getaway! See you soon!

Breakfast cooked fresh each day. Property is very clean. Joan is an amazing lady who has had a very interesting life. She'll do anything for you and you'll become friends for life. 11/10 if I could.

Our hostess, Joanie, is so special! Her care made our stay even better! Her home is lovely, very warm and inviting and IMMACULATE! Her breakfasts were fit for royalty! So delicious, and she waited on us, serving us like we were family. She was also a wealth of knowledge and information about the community and the best, fastest way to get to the airport amid morning traffic! Thank you, Joanie!!

Joan, our host, was the BEST. She was friendly, had great stories, and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. The location was perfect and we were able to easily get to Salem and other surrounding areas. The view of the ocean was amazing as well. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a wonderful bed and breakfast spot in a beautiful town.

Having travelled all the around the world, I can honestly say this has been one of my favourite and most memorable stays. Although listed as a hotel, the Hydrangea feels more like an exclusive homestay. Joanie is the perfect host: she’s so warm, welcoming, and friendly – and, as other guests have already said, her breakfasts are absolutely delicious. The rooms are comfy, cozy, and quirky. The location is a short drive or 10-15 minute walk to Gloucester centre along a beautiful seafront path. While everything about the Hyrdrangea is lovely and comfortable, it was Joanie who made our stay such a memorable one. She even allowed a couple of our friends to join for breakfast for one morning!

Our stay with Joan exceeded our expectations, from the proximity to the seaglass beach across the street, to the lovely easy walk along the water to the large state beach…the charming eclectic decor… enjoying Joan’s stories about her curated collections and whimsical finds..the lavish breakfasts & treats…it was a breath of fresh sea air combined with the best conversation & food & the treasure hunt for sea glass that made for an unforgettable weekend! Wonderful private home with excellent hostess and full breakfast meals. Well worth the price. Owner had a fascinating history. The house had a great view of the water and was less than a block from a park and paved walkway along the water and into town. Highly recommended!

The house has the depth of history, a history of human spirit, the spirit of honor, service, kindness, and human heart to heart connection. My wife and I stayed for three days. We not only enjoyed physical comfort and relaxation, but also felt spiritually enriched as we saw the richly decorated house, heard many inspiring stories about the history of the people lived in the house and experienced the genuine care of the hostess. It’s a soul-touching experience indeed!

The room was spacious, well lit and cozy. The morning breakfast was outstanding! It was so complete I didn't have lunch the entire week I stayed at the Inn. The bathroom was also very clean, well decorated, and conveniently located next to the bedroom. The mini-fridge had chocolates, water, soda and seltzer at no extra charge. Joannie, the owner, is a fantastic host. She has lived all over the world (Greece, Turkey, Argentina, Uruguay, LA, Boston, to name a few) In her fundraising work at Harvard and USC, she met many, many interesting people and has great stories to tell. The breakfast conversations we had were so interesting I had remind myself to visit the relatives I flew 3000 miles to see. I unconditionally recommend the Hydrangea Inn!

Absolutely charming!

What a treat it was to stay at the Hydrangea Inn. Joan was a gracious hostess who made us feel right at home. The breakfast was delicious and a great time to ask Joan questions about the area. She was a wealth of knowledge and an interesting lady? Oh, and the view of the bay was a bonus we didnt expect! We would certainly stay here again.
