An idyllic setting enabling lake activities for all age groups. Indoors provided plenty of space and privacy for us nine adults. Although we made one trip to Kalamazoo, which included a stop at Bell’s for “Two Hearted”, a favorite beer,and to Trader Joe for groceries, we mainly had home-cooked dinners in the well-suppled kitchen. A great location!

Our family gathered at the Sweet Lake House for a reunion and we had a great time. The house was comfortable and clean. Attention to detail was apparent with a well equipped kitchen, decorations, and furnishings. There was plenty of living space both inside and out. With five young children, our time was mostly spent by the water. The deck by the water was a perfect spot to gather with ample furniture and partial to full shade most of the day. We really enjoyed using the kayaks, paddle boat, paddle boards, and floaties. There are some life jackets available as well. The lake is beautiful and quiet and we observed a variety of wild life. The kids also had a great time fishing from the dock. We took trips South Haven to go to the beach, to pick blueberries, and to see the dinosaur display at WMU. Our host was proactive and thorough with communication and responded quickly to questions. All in all, a memorable and wonderful vacation stay at Sweet Lake.

We loved the house and the lake. The house worked well for our group of 7 adults and 3 kids. It’s cute and very well decorated. The bedrooms were small-ish but stylish and functional. The kitchen isn’t huge but worked well enough, especially with the grill and pantry closet nearby. The back family / dining area is a nice big space with great views. My only complaints about the house are that the walls are thin, and I would have liked a top sheet or duvet cover rather than just a blanket for sleeping. The game room garage was entertaining - we played a lot of ping pong. The deck down by the lake is fantastic! And it was great having so many water toys to use. We loved the kayaks, paddleboards, and paddleboat. (There seemed to be a small leak in the rowboat so we only used that once.)The lake was really quiet, with good swimming off the raft. My family did a lot of fishing, and we enjoyed watching the turtles and muskrats. The kids loved the Klassic Arcade in Gobles on the rainy day, and I liked exploring downtown Allegan (good coffee, and a cute Thursday morning farmers market where we got some great sweet corn and cherries).Overall, we had a really great stay!

Excellent accommodations

Property is lovely, inside and out! Quiet neighborhood, quiet private lake. Host is responsive and helpful. We had a party of 7 and there was plenty of room for everyone. One thing to be aware of (which was not an issue for us), is that the two downstairs bedrooms are connected. You need to go through one to get to the second. The 2 full baths are on the main floor and there is a half bath downstairs by the other two bedrooms.The lake is very clean and the deck by the water has ample seating. This is a great location for swimming and boating with standing paddleboards, paddleboat and kayaks available. We had a great time!

My family and I had a great weekend staying at the house… lots of fishing the kids enjoyed the outside toys the house was really cozy the neighbors were friendly and welcoming the area was very quite and peaceful.. the house was very clean and homey. A nice place for a weekend get away

Good fishing

Easiest check in. Spacious. Open concept. Good lake toys. Two docks to fish from. Caught a couple dozen fish from the piers, crappie, blue gill, catfish, small and large bass. Ping pong table and fire pit area was well located. Only recommendation would be new gas grill and charcoal grill out by the docks. Lake was beautiful and super quiet.

Great place for a weekend getaway

Lovely property with a couple of hiccups

My family met at this beautiful lake house from different states throughout the US & enjoyed our stay immensely. There were many pros with a few cons. Pros: 1. The house was clean and updated. 2. The lake was beautiful and calm. A lot of lake toys available. Fishing was GREAT 3. The owner was responsive 4. The area was rural and quiet with an easy drive to Holland, South Haven, and Kalamazoo Cons: 1.Listing had many inaccuracies:(a) No pool table (b) No hot tub (despite asking owner ahead of time), which was a key criteria for us. The pictures didn't show any place in which a hot tub could have been located &, when we arrived, there was mysteriously not a hot tub due to a "prior accident." The owner was going to give us $ back but did not. (c) The bedrooms in the basement are connected per the listing. However, to get to the bathroom, you must go thru the 1st bedroom. (d) Listing said brand new washer and dryer which was not the case (see below). 2. There were no dressers anywhere & no closets in the bedrooms downstairs. 3. Lack of necessities like paper towel, tp, and soap 4. The washer was broken. The owner said he knew about it but didn't get it fixed prior to our arrival. We had 2 infants & couldn't do laundry until 2 days before leaving. 5. Got a reprimanding text from owner accusing us of setting off fireworks. Babies were asleep (it woke them) and we were in living room. I responded "no" & he dug in saying "why would the neighbors say that?" It was very off putting.

Great

This. Is a beautiful and well-maintained house with a gorgeous lake and dock. It’s just lovely. The only issue we had was that the property is VERY close to a pair of extremely hostile neighbors. This is not the owner’s fault of course but the whole week we felt we were walking on eggshells and always were worried that we might make too much noise or otherwise raise the ire of the unpleasant folks next door. There is only a thin wire fence that separates the two properties, and it’s plastered with”no trespassing” signs. The couple bicker with each other loudly. Otherwise the visit would have been idyllic—but we would not rent it again, unfortunately—no fault of the owner, who was lovely..

Great family vacation week at Sweet Lake

Spent a great week with family here. The property owner, Ivan, was quick to respond to questions during the booking process and the one time I needed to contact him during our stay. The description of the property is accurate. Ivan did a great job of renovating this lake house. A great open concept that accommodated 10 adults comfortably. All of the beds were very comfortable. It was well supplied with essentials for cooking as well as paper products. Very good Wifi with a charging docking station so yo won't misplace your chargers. Decent fishing right off the dock or use the the paddle boat or rowboat to fish. Plenty of very good water toys to use too. The deck by the water is large with plenty of seating. If you feel like venturing out to eat there are several good restaurants nearby to choose from. 2.5 bathrooms was a plus for the 10 of us. Would definitely look into renting this lake house again for future vacations.

Excellent house

This house was perfect. The deck and the lake are all you need to relax and unwind. If we ever get back that way i would love to rent this house again. Owner went above and beyond for us. Much appreciated. Great house. Great owner.

Great snowy get away!

This was the perfect house for our first trip to ski in Michigan. We went to Bittersweet and Timber Ridge which were both within 20 minutes. Ivan was a terrific host and was extremely accommodating with the very dramatic and unpredictable weather conditions. We're glad we didn't have to cancel and would stay again! Clean, firm mattresses, and beautiful setting. We had everything we needed.

Winter getaway

When me and my group were looking for a home to stay at we wanted to find something nice and spacious for our group of eleven. When we arrived at Ivans property it was just as described in the listing! It was a beautiful lake front property with all the space you need to have a great stay. The property was well taken care of, and was very nicely decorated! If you are looking for a great getaway this is the place! The host was very helpful and responsive during our stay! Our group had a blast!

Great house!

My husband and I stayed here with our four kids ages 13-20. The house is beautiful and clean and had everything we needed . We enjoyed the lake and the boats as well. A grocery store was nearby and it was about a 30 min drive to the beach and downtown south haven. Pretty bad cell phone service in the area but the house has great WiFi.

Perfect Getaway

The house as seen from the street was plain but the inside (with very nicely updated) accommodations and the view of the lake more than made up for that! We had lots of space to sit in the family room, places for all 6 adults in the dining room, and spread out in the large bedrooms. The cool weather was pleasant enough that we could sit by the lake which we did several times. It was a very quiet neighborhood, which we appreciated. Lots of very nice touches in the house- plenty of towels, kitchen supplies, shampoo/conditioner, and nice appliances. Easy-to-operate door locks, and easy-to-understand directions. One suggestion would be a handrail on the front steps-it would give some security to older people as they go up the steps. All in all, we were delighted with the accommodations--the lake was lovely to watch. We made trips to Saugatuck, Holland, and Kalamazoo easily. We would come back again.
