This is a charming house & we all agreed that our eight days in the home were mostly pleasant. The architecture has a wonderful sensibility. When we finally met the people who represented the owners, we found them to be good & helpful people.
The property is best for easy-going personalities who are not terribly picky. There's an unpleasant smell from the garage like mildew, & one smells it from entry, kitchen, & living room. One does get used to it & it becomes less bothersome. There's one light in the living room with an American plug but no wall adapter, so mostly a sculptural piece?
We had no heat for many nights, & not enough hot water for more than 1.5 hot showers. Not enough for four men. I texted number given in the binder (no one was at the house to meet us) but US cell phone didn't get through (learned later WhatsApp works). About five days into our eight days, representatives by chance stopped by & fixed the heat & the hot water, so it was fine after that. It would've been nice if the water & heat had been turned on BEFORE we checked in. We did enjoy the fireplace. Lots of wood, no matches. Grocery store 20 min away.
I had the front bedroom. The windows were covered in big flies, like 50? They seemed drawn to the inside of the warm windows (which were open, no screens – cow pasture across the street, pretty view) w/the fly swatter I got all I could catch. Kept windows closed after that. Took days to get all of them.
But all that said, we did like the place.
