A stunning, one bedroomed, beamed thatched cottage in the village of Stockland.
Perfect for a romantic retreat, drenched in history and charm, Kites Holt (part of Kites Cottage) is a 500 year old Grade II listed Medieval Hall House sitting within the centre of the beautiful village of Stockland. A stunning, one bedroomed, beamed thatched cottage with the benefit of its own private entrance into the original hall of the cottage, dating back to circa 15th century.
Kites Holt boasts space and light whilst maintaining a wealth of its original character along with some quirky features, offering guests originality with a high standard of luxury and comfort included. This archetypal thatched cottage in an unspoilt village setting is the perfect destination for a comfortable country break. Kites Holt offers you the best of both the traditional and the contemporary, with original flooring, exposed beams and a feature open fireplace, as well as modern comforts such as underfloor heating in the bathroom and a luxurious super-king size bed with a Devon wool duvet. The welcoming bedroom also features more exposed beams and a "Narnia" style walk in wardrobe, along with triple aspect picture windows. The beautiful bathroom is located on the ground floor and has a double wet room style walk-in shower and a luxurious roll-top slipper bath.
Outside, guests can enjoy the private, fully enclosed south west facing courtyard garden, with garden furniture, fragrant plants and lovely views of the village church and the countryside beyond.
Stockland is a pretty, small village nestled within the Blackdown Hills (designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1991). You’ll find plenty of country walks through the woodland and countryside right from your doorstep. The village boasts a welcoming pub, the Kings Arms, with a great selection of wines and local ales. If you are looking to eat, then it is advisable to book as it is very popular.
Kites Holt is the ideal romantic retreat, however unsuitable for guests with limited mobility due to the changes in levels throughout, and winding staircases between the bedroom and bathroom.
Additional Information: Sorry, no children or infants. One well-behaved, small-medium sized dog welcome (small additional charge). Kites Holt is very cosy and not suitable for a large dog. Please note Kites Holt is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. The cottage is 500 years old with many original and quirky features such as a windy staircase up to the first floor bedroom, with the bathroom located on the ground floor; restricted headroom in some areas; and steps throughout the cottage. There is no barbecue available or permitted as the cottage is thatched. EV Charging point available on a pay as you use basis.
Ground Floor: Front door entrance from thatched porch leading to medieval flag-stoned hallway, with plenty of storage for coats. Backdoor leading onto private courtyard garden. Sitting room Dual aspect sitting room with open fire and door leading to steps to bathroom. Bathroom With underfloor heating, a roll-top bath, walk-in shower, wash basin and WC.
Mid Floor: Short staircase leads up to Kitchen/dining room With an electric induction hob, multi-functional microwave with fan oven and grill, fridge/ freezer, dishwasher, handmade oak units and a Belfast sink. Small table and chairs overlooking the view of the village church.
First Floor: Quirky winding staircase leads up to Bedroom A large, triple aspect bedroom with a locally made 6' super-king size bed with a Devon wool duvet. Large walk-in wardrobe.
Outside: Fully enclosed south west facing courtyard garden, with rattan garden furniture for two. Private off-road parking for one car and EV Charging Point (pay as you use).
Information correct at time of writing. The village boasts a welcoming pub, the Kings Arms with a great selection of wines and local ales. If you are looking to eat then it is advisable to book as it is very popular. The Jurassic Coastline is just 11 miles away from Kites Holt, where you can visit timeless seaside towns like Lyme Regis and its famous Cobb, or spend time on the foreshore searching for your own loose fossils to take home as souvenirs. They say one of the best places to try fossil hunting is Charmouth. The village of Beer on the south coast is worth a visit too. The fascinating Beer Quarry Caves were the source of the building material for some of the nation’s iconic buildings, including the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey. Head east from the cottage and you’ll find Forde Abbey, a stately home with over 900 years of history and 30 acres of award-winning gardens. The nearest town to the cottage is Honiton, which was once famous for its lace. You can still get a feel for the heritage at the Allhallows Museum of Lace and Antiquities. Nowadays Honiton is known for its antique shops – you could pick up a bargain or two! If you’re a keen cook, the River Cottage Café is just five miles away in Axminster, while the River Cottage headquarters are just a few miles further on. They often hold cookery classes and dining events.
