  • Welcome to Chilton Cottage, a warm and inviting two-bedroom converted horse stables. Nestled in the heart of Chilton Foliat, a village dating back to Saxon times, it's the quintessential English country escape.

    Step into a piece of history with our charming cottage that seamlessly blends history with modern convenience and comfort. Enjoy the simplicity of a separate fully equipped kitchen and a combined living room and dining area, providing a cozy retreat for up to four guests.

    You’ll find one good size double bedroom, with the second bedroom featuring a single bed, and second pull out single for the fourth guest. There’s a modern family bathroom with shower and additional downstairs WC for convenience.

    Explore the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where ancient footpaths and bridleways are on the doorstep for leisurely walks. For outdoor enthusiasts, there's fly fishing, mountain biking, and nearby ancient Savernake Forest. Immerse yourself in the local culture with Marlborough, Hungerford, and the iconic Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) nearby.

    No frills, just a warm and welcoming haven in the heart of Chilton Foliat.

Cozy Retreat Close to Highclere and Marlborough

We recently spent four nights at this cozy spot, and we loved it! The location was perfect for exploring nearby Highclere Castle and Marlborough, The cottage itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped for our stay. The host was friendly and responsive, providing helpful suggestions for local activities and dining options. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this property to others looking for getaway in the English countryside.

The location of the property was ideal, the property was well appointed and very clean. The second bedroom was a little cramped for 2 adults and the velux window above one of the beds leaked.

Perfect Family Getaway

Our family of four had a fantastic long weekend at this charming annex. It was an ideal escape from London, offering plenty of space and comfort for us to unwind. We enjoyed exploring the nearby countryside with muddy walks. The local pub (Wheatshead) served delicious food, but our favourite local was Cobbs Farm (which also had a soft play!) The cottage was equipped with everything we needed, including things for the children like toys, cot and good blinds for the bedroom. This thoughtful touch made our stay even more enjoyable.

Cozy English "converted barn".

A cozy house in a beautiful village. Quiet location and plenty of space. Parking right outside. Everything you need is included. Very friendly owner. A great base for exploring many sights. And with an hour's travel time (train from neighboring Hungerford) to London. Beds a bit small. The glass panel in the refrigerator was taped down. The window in the lower oven door was also loose.

It was fine for a week.

The location of the house was great, close to Hungerford. From there you can see enough without too much driving, there is a train from Hungerford directly to London. Everything you need was present in the house and it was also neat On the booking site there is a picture of the owner's house, but you don't stay there. This is situated in a converted horse stable behind the house. This was a fine house, but it's about the idea.

Finest Retreats were always kind and responsive but didn’t have any local tips as they’re not based

Finest Retreats were always kind and responsive but didn’t have any local tips as they’re not based locally. The owner of the house, however, was amazing. We were travelling with two young children and she gave us multiple tips about things to do and where to go. She leant us things and bough an extra fan as it was hot when we were there. We felt very comfortable and welcome. Highly recommend.
